Chapter 127: Challenge

The conversations with the coven did actually make him feel better after the struggle of applying his elemental affinity to his mana veins.

Since he could relax with these women he made sure to enjoy the meal he paid for while listening to them discuss their studies.

"So what do they teach at this academy exactly?"

The coven seemed to think about their answer for a moment before they began to rapidly speak to him; each one gave a description that he tried to keep up with but eventually they slowed down.

"Let's start from the beginning? Slowly?"

The first one to speak up was a devil girl that had icy blue hair done up in a strange set of braids.

"They teach you more advanced methods of harnessing your mana as well as advanced spell forms like the beam technique."

Another of the coven with green eyes and a subtle glow in her skin spoke up before he could continue.

"They also teach more advanced mana absorption techniques as well as methods for refining the body through mana."

When he heard this he immediately sat up straight and looked her in the eye.

"Wait like cultivation?"

"Cultivation of what?"

He proceeded to explain the concept of body cultivation that had been popular in the previous few decades of fantasy stories from his home.

"Actually it's a lot like that yes but we don't exactly use the energy to attack anything like you described? It sounds like you are describing how older civilizations passed skills down."

"Can you explain further?" Enjoy new chapters from My Virtual Library Empire

"Well in precious eras families would pass their skills down by recording them in a scroll but doing so required a great deal of knowledge in the skills being recorded as well as a high level spell scribe skill."

She paused as another of the coven spoke up, the original member he had met.

"It also required the advanced title: 'Magic Teacher' to actually make the scroll legible to others."

"Wait so you need a title to pass on your skills or spells? You can't just teach them?"

"Well you could try to teach them and that's how you would gain the title, to actually obtain the title you have to teach multiple apprentices a number of spells the system believes you are capable of teaching."

The green hued devil spoke up once again.

"There are a few grades of the Magical Teacher title and the first is what is required for making those scrolls... though it's not easy to get the skill."

He leans forward in his seat waiting for this new information.

"To gain the 'First Grade Magical Teacher' title you must have reached the mana prism stage of your core and you must have created a spell of at least master rank."

He nods in response before speaking.

"Is the mana prism the next stage after mana gem?"

They laugh a bit before the fourth member of the coven scolded them.

"A mana prism is not quite the next stage, first you have to condense your gem."

The icy blue devil spoke up next.

"The mana gem has three stages; the first stage is the intial stage, the second is the condensed stage and the third is the enclosed stage."

The green hued devil spoke up once again.

"After the enclosed stage you are able to rank your core up by infusing your mana into the frame to achieve the mana prism."

"I see... so the prism is all about making multiple layers of mana for the core?"

"It is to create more storage for mana and to allow for more surface area in the core to promote greater mana transference."

"Wait what do you mean by mana transference?"

The quiet devil spoke up now and as she spoke he realized that she was hiding her teeth which heavily resembled that of a shark.

"Mana transference is the proper term for absorbing mana, proper mana transference means faster mana absorption."

"So the prism makes it easier to absorb mana?"

"More like it makes the process more efficient."

"How so?"

"Well imagine it in this way; the mana you absorb is channeled into your core by getting streamed into the surface, after reaching a certain rank the rate at which the mana enters the core does not change but you can do something to make the mana absorb faster anyway."

"How does that work?"

"If you create more surface area for the core to absorb the mana with then you can actually absorb it even faster, this is due to the mana somehow seeing the faces of a gemstone as it's own surface."

"And with more surfaces you get more streams of mana entering the core."

The coven would talk over one another as if it were second nature which did make keeping up a bit difficult if they didn't slow down.

"Mana is a strange thing because if you place a gemstone into a place of high mana density then it will actually start to absorb it, the number of faces on the gem will make the gem absorb mana faster but the gemstone itself is what decides how much mana is contained."

As he listened to them explain this information he realized that it was still very important to study the world's methods of gaining power, through this conversation alone he had figured out that it was possible to use gems for temporary mana storage as well as a potential way to make his own core stronger when he advanced to the prism stage.

"So if I make my prism and I add more faces than the minimum..."

"You would be able to absorb mana at a much faster rate than any mage who does not have a special skill for such a task or a mage with a higher number of faces."

He then asked the most obvious follow-up to this conversation.

"So what is the highest number of faces that a prism can have?"

"Well that's actually unknown because it's based on the mana control and the strength of the mage that creates their prism, theoretically you could make a prism with so many faces that it would resemble a ball while the smallest prism has four faces."

He began to picture the three dimensional objects he was aware of and he realized she was describing a tetrahedron.

"What is the prism with the most reported faces?"

The women began to smile as if he just asked for the juiciest gossip.

"That's a question that gets a lot of people in some very heated debates, most of the infernals would obviously say that the queen has the greatest quality core but others would say their own leaders have the same."

As they kept chatting about the different theories over who had the best core Ezekiel eventually felt a presence behind him, when he turned around he saw a pair of devils flanked by three large demons.

"So you wastes got a little friend! Is this your male?"

The first of the two spoke up in a haughty way that made his skin crawl and then the other spoke up.

"He's probably related to one of them, no male with any self respect would sit with a hybrid."

She practically spat the word as she looked at the green tinged devil.

"Damn you two sound like a nightmare to be around, what are you trying to accomplish by mocking someone?"

The two devils had a look of astonishment on their faces before they started laughing.

"Oh that's cute... a bratty male that hasn't been taught his place in life?"

One of the demonesses moved behind and placed a strong hand on his shoulder which he shrugged off, much to the amusement of the coven trying to harass their group.

"I wouldn't mind breaking him in, teach him a lesson so that he can be properly trained by his coven."

The demoness began to crack her knuckles while smiling savagely at the shrouded face of Ezekiel.

"You five are a disgrace, Jamaya is there a place for duels here?"

As he said these words every single woman went silent, even a number of nearby tables went silent as they stared at the group.

"You really want to duel? Who do you think you'll be dueling amongst us?"

He eyed each woman and sighed before shaking his head.

"How about all of you? You need to be taught a lesson in humility."

The silence was deafening until he said those words because it caused an uproar.

He couldn't pick out any specific words from the rapid conversations the other students were having but he just assumed that it was rare for men to challenge women to duels.

Eventually he just stood up and looked at the coven he had been sitting with.

"Could you lead me to the best place to duel? I'd like to be done with this so I can get back to dealing with a quest I'm on."

As the coven stood up to lead him out the other coven stared at him with shock when they realized he was serious.

Then he heard it.

"He's going to fight the Breakers!"
