Chapter 15: CHAPTER 13
DYLAN
The atmosphere in the office is thick with anticipation. The usual hum of conversations has quieted, replaced by the low murmur of people whispering and stealing glances at the door, waiting for the arrival of Dylan Voss, the new CEO of Voss Enterprise.
I step off the elevator, my heels clicking sharply on the marble floors, the sound echoing through the empty hallways. I force myself to breathe steadily, to look calm, professional. But inside, I'm a storm of nerves, a sense of urgency pushing me forward. Today is the day everything changes.
As I round the corner, I see Dylan, standing tall, his posture commanding, his dark eyes scanning the room with the ease of a man who's accustomed to having control of every situation. He's in a perfectly tailored suit, his black tie crisp, his demeanor unwavering. It's a reminder that I'm not dealing with a man who's just a businessman—he's a force to be reckoned with.
Dylan turns as I approach, his gaze locking onto mine. For a moment, everything else fades, and it's just the two of us, the silent understanding between us hanging in the air like a charged electric current.
"You're here early," he observes, his voice smooth and low, betraying nothing of what's swirling beneath the surface.
"I don't want to miss anything," I reply, standing a little straighter as I meet his gaze.
He smirks, his eyes gleaming with that dangerous mix of amusement and control. "Good. You won't."
The boardroom doors open, and we step inside. The room falls silent as we enter, the weight of the moment settling over everyone present. There's a strange energy in the air, a mix of nervousness and excitement, as people shift in their seats, stealing glances at the new CEO.
Dylan walks confidently to the head of the table, his movements sharp and decisive. I follow, taking my place at the far side of the table, my pulse racing but my face giving nothing away. He sits down, the entire room still waiting for him to speak.
He doesn't waste any time. "Good morning," Dylan begins, his voice smooth, firm. "I'm sure you're all aware that today marks the beginning of a new era for Voss Enterprise." He glances around the room, meeting the eyes of every board member, and for a brief moment, his gaze lingers on me. It's subtle, but it's there, the unspoken reminder of what transpired between us yesterday. "As of today, I'm in charge. And as your new CEO, I expect nothing less than excellence from each and every one of you."
He pauses, letting his words sink in, before continuing. "The changes I'm implementing will be swift, but necessary. We're going to streamline operations, restructure departments, and ensure that Voss Enterprise is more competitive than ever before." His voice grows more intense, his gaze steady and unyielding. "The time for complacency is over. I'll be making several changes today, including the firing of the head of the legal department. Ms. Vale here will be taking over that position."
I don't flinch, though I feel the eyes of every person in the room on me. I sit up straighter, the weight of the moment heavy on my shoulders. But this is what I've worked for, what I've fought for. I won't let them see me falter.
Dylan looks at me again, a glint of something in his eyes. "Ms. Vale," he says, his voice smooth, "please take charge of the department immediately. I expect you to bring in fresh ideas, new strategies. This company needs someone who isn't afraid to make tough calls."
His words hang in the air, heavy with implication. I nod, meeting his gaze without hesitation. "Understood, Mr. Voss," I reply, my voice steady, even though my pulse is still racing.
The boardroom erupts in murmurs, but Dylan raises his hand, silencing them. He takes a deep breath, as if preparing to deliver the final blow. "This is just the beginning. There will be more changes, more decisions to be made. And I expect everyone to be on board, or you'll find yourselves replaced."
There's a tense silence as he lets the weight of his words settle over the room. No one dares to speak, no one dares to move. The power in the room is palpable, a tension that feels like it could snap at any moment.
Dylan leans back in his chair, his gaze sweeping over the room one last time. "This company is mine now," he says, his voice low but unmistakably firm. "And you'all expected at the party."
The finality in his words echoes through the room as he stands, signaling the end of the meeting. The board members slowly begin to gather their things, clearly unsettled but unwilling to challenge his authority.
As the room empties, Dylan turns to me, his gaze locking onto mine once again. There's something dangerous in his eyes, something that promises more than just a business takeover.
"This is just the beginning, Hermione," he says, his voice a low whisper that only I can hear. "Get ready for what's next."
I hold his gaze, my heart racing. I know this is far from over, that the lines between business and personal will blur even more in the coming days. And as much as I try to keep my distance, I know that Dylan is right.
This is just the beginning.
