Bound In A Loop Of Fate

Chapter 28: Zhai Mei’s Incident Part 2. The First Choice Of Staying Against All Odds

Gu Wei stood beside Zhai Mei and gripped her wrist, pulling her close.

"What the heck do you think you're doing?"

His voice was laced with venom, and the angry expression on his face from the day's horrendous events had turned into a murderous glare.

Gu Wei wasn't in a good mood to begin with, and the suited man had unleashed a raging boy on himself.

"Wh-who the hell are you? This is none of your business. Don't interfere!"

The moron's slicked hair had popped off and strands stood in spikes like Song Wei's yarn as he struggled to his feet and shook a finger at Gu Wei.

"I'm going to call the police, just you wait! Shoving people without respect!"

Gu Wei's hand holding Zhai Mei tightened as he glared at the fool.

"You shoved first. If anyone wants to call the police, it'll be us."

His thick eyebrows bunched together so tightly was even scarier than his glare, and the troublesome fool hesitated.

Eyes moving between the cold-faced girl and her boyfriend, the suited man pressed his lips together reluctantly and receded his words of assault.

Zhai Mei's phone spoke up.

"I should call the police and have them check the CCTV, then you'll know that I wasn't the person that scattered your papers and stepped on them. But I won't. This matter should end here without any more complications, and I'm going to overlook the attempted assault."

Gu Wei glanced at Zhai Mei, surprised she wasn't pressing charges against the asshole.

The crowd murmured in agreement, and a woman with a scarf around her head gestured to them.

"Miss, you should have the police arrest the man, but I guess that would be too much trouble. You! Apologise! Causing trouble when you should've kowtowed a hundred times, have you no shame!"

The rest of the crowd chimed in, their shouts growing louder as they demanded that the suited man apologize.

Zhai Mei was about to type and tell the crowd to leave him be, it wasn't worth it, when her wrist was dragged and Gu Wei shoved through the people, pulling her along.

They successfully made it out of the circle, and Gu Wei beelined toward the doors.

Gu Wei was walking steadily while Zhai Mei scrambled to follow along at his deadpan pace.

She tugged at her wrist three times before Gu Wei loosened his grip, and she changed positions, slipping her hand into his.

Gu Wei looked back at the warm contact, briefly spying on their joined hands, and slowed his walking.

He hadn't realised, but he'd been storming off like Miss Li just now.

Sliding his hand further into Zhai Mei's, Gu Wei led them outside and sat Zhai Mei down on the benches scattered around the front of the building. D

ropping his bag next to her, Gu Wei crouched in front of Zhai Mei, his hands hovering over her body.

'Are you okay?' He motioned quickly. Zhai Mei nodded.

'Are you sure?'

Zhai Mei gave him a thumbs up.

Gu Wei's frown was still permanently on his face.

Zhai Mei's hands itched to smooth out his eyebrows, and she folded her hands together before she actually did it.

Gu Wei snatched her left hand and gestured to her index finger. A small cut ran horizontally.

Blood had dried around the area, and the wound was now red.

Her palms were also grainy, making Gu Wei wonder if she'd tried to help the moron pack his papers.

Zhai Mei herself hadn't noticed the wound and hurried to explain, tugging at her hand and motioning.

However, Gu Wei took her wrists gently and laced her hands on her lap, shaking his head and piercing her with his glaring gaze.

Stay still, he seemed to be saying. Zhai Mei stayed still.

Looking around for a pharmacy nearby, Gu Wei's angry expression scared the people passing around them, and they gave the two a wide berth as they passed.

Gu Wei knew there wasn't a pharmacy around, and he was wondering how he could get his hands on a med-kit when he remembered the props they'd used today.

There had been a first aid box, complete with Band-Aids and wool among them. Gu Wei stood sharply, 'Stay here, I'll be right back.'

Confused, Zhai Mei grabbed at his clothing, but he was already gone, hurrying the way they had come.

Not sure where Gu Wei was going, Zhai Mei craned her neck and followed his movements, thoroughly confused when he stopped by a group of people.

Until she saw Fu Yuan.

Zhai Mei's mood went down to the lowest degree.

So Gu Wei was going to her.

Even with a bucket hat jammed over her head, Zhai Mei would recognise that figure anywhere.

She'd seen it too much on screens and billboards not to know.

Feeling betrayed, Zhai Mei pressed her hands together and looked away.

Was she supposed to sit here and wait for Gu Wei to finish his conversation with Fu Yuan?

How and why were they even together? And why was she always the one waiting?

Zhai Mei took a deep breath, recalling their conversation in the car and the promise she'd made to herself to not let anything get to her.

But he was leaving her here, fingers hurt, sitting alone on a bench in an unfamiliar place.

Zhai Mei had come to meet a potential client who worked in the building, and on her way out, she'd encountered that horrible human.

And now, Gu Wei had left without a second glance and ran to Fu Yuan like he always did.

Was he even coming back? Zhai Mei stared at his bag. He'd come back… for his bag at least.

But not for Zhai Mei.

Torn about her decision, Zhai Mei looked around her and sighed. Leave or not? S

he remembered how he'd appeared almost like a dream and pulled her to him, how he'd said 'us' without thinking twice.

How he hadn't pulled away when she'd held his hand.

Zhai Mei stared at his back as he walked away with someone. Not Fu Yuan. Fu Yuan walked out of the building, got into the back of her car, and… drove away?

Zhai Mei's head whipped around to the glass doors again, but Gu Wei was gone.

Not with Fu Yuan but with someone else. T

his strengthened Zhai Mei's resolve. Gu Wei wasn't with Fu Yuan, and this lightened the tightening in her chest.

The girl on the bench settled in, adjusting Gu Wei's bag, and chose, for the first time, to stay.
