Chapter 561: It was near to impossible —even for the Davies.
Meanwhile, on the other side, at Quinn's Villa —
Catrin was sitting in her study behind her desk. Her expression was hard, and her gaze was darker than the darkness of the night.
"Didn't I ask you to keep your behaviour at its best?" The words came through the grit of her teeth.
Emily flinched. "Aunt Catrin, I —"
"I —what?" Catrin snapped, slamming her hand hard over the desk. "This is how you keep your behaviour at its best? But getting yourself banned from the top mall of the country?"
"Aunt Catrin, I didn't mean to. I was —"
"You were —what?" Her tone was loud and threatening. "Ruining the name of Quinns? Do you even know what you have done?" Pointing at the screen, she continued, "You just didn't get banned yourself, but you also revoked our, Quinn's membership from the Sky Luxe Mall."
"Here, I was trying to boost your image in society, but what did you do?" Scoffing, she gave out a dark chuckle. "Just in a day, you ruined it all. After this, do you think you even deserve to be the heiress of the Quinn family?"
She questioned, and it sounded exactly like Emily's fear come true.
She glanced up at Catrin, horrified. "No, no, no, Aunt Catrin," she cried desperately. "I know I did something really wrong. I shouldn't have implicated Quinn's name like that, but believe me, I had no idea things would turn out like that. Please forgive me. I would do anything that you would say, just don't change your decision to adopt me."
"You think anything you do would change it?" Catrin was furious. If anything, she hated the most —it was being looked down upon. And today, that actually had happened.
And, it was all because of Emily —the girl she was merely using —the mere pawn of her hand.
"It can be changed, Aunt," Emily blurted out without even thinking. To be honest, at this point she was not thinking at all. All she was focused on was saving the situation for herself. And she was willing to do or say all that would help her in that.
So, when she said that 'it can be changed', she meant to do everything and anything to make it right.
Catrin paused at that. Her brows knitted as she stared at the girl. "What do you mean?" she asked.
And Emily swallowed before nodding. "Yes, Aunt Catrin," she said, continuing immediately, "We can change this all, and everything will again turn to be fine. We just have to go to Arwen and —"
Before she could finish, Catrin's interrupted, her brows knitting deeply at the mention of Arwen's name.
"Arwen!" she echoed, "What does she have to do in all this?"
"She has to do everything in this," Emily hissed agitatedly, still feeling wronged by how everything turned out towards the end. She shouldn't be the one standing on the losing end, yet here she was fending for herself in the situation. "It's all because of her. If not, nothing would have happened."
"Emily, don't push your demerit on someone else. This won't reduce it for you." Things might not be as favourable as before between her and Arwen, but she was still her daughter, and she knew her daughter better than anyone to know that Arwen would never do anything that would cause shame to Quinn's reputation.
She had never done it before. And even now, she was sure her daughter would do it.
Emily gritted when she heard Catrin indirectly siding with Arwen. She might not have mentioned her name, but the defensiveness in her tone was clear.
"Aunt Catrin, I am not pushing the blame on her," she said, "But believe me, if not for her, nothing like this would have happened. She just had to let it go. And they wouldn't have made it such a big issue."
Catrin didn't understand. "What do you mean?" she paused and then added, "On her say, they wouldn't have made it a big issue? What position could she hold there?"
Davies had the name, but at Sky Luxe Mall, Quinn's held partial stakes. Given that, Davies' name wouldn't have stood out enough to help her out against Emily.
Then how did she manage?
"She holds the ownership of the mall," Emily stated, his voice still tinged with evident envy.
Ownership!
Catrin was taken aback. "What did you say?"
Emily gritted but repeated. "She holds the ownership of the Sky Luxe Mall, Aunt Catrin. So, no matter what stakes the Quinns held, nothing could override her authority there. The store manager did all this to impress her. If only she had let it slide, he wouldn't have done it."
"How can she own that mall?" Catrin couldn't bring herself to believe.
Sky Luxe Mall wasn't just any mall. It was the top-branded mall of Cralens. How could Arwen hold the capability to get the ownership of such an asset?
It was near to impossible —even for the Davies.
Then how did she?
Catrin reached her phone and quickly dialled a number. Soon, she did, and the call was connected. On the other end of the line, it was her secretary.
"Lia, look into something for me," she ordered, straight away, the moment she heard her secretary speak on the other side. "I want to know when and how was the Sky Luxe Mall was transferred to Arwen's name. Find out and send me the details now."
The secretary on the call quickly affirmed. "I will check it, ma'am." She then disconnected the call.
Emily watched it, not understanding what Catrin wanted to know. Did she not believe her?
Why would she lie about it?
"Aunt Catrin," she slowly began, "Believe me, this situation can be turned if we ask Arwen. As long as she let it go, Sky Luxe Mall would take the ban off me and even return the reputation that Quinns always held there. Should we —"
She didn't dare finish her words when her gaze met with Catrin's dark ones.
