Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Three Minutes, No Less!
Experiencing this for the first time, Die's cheeks grew even more flushed and shy.
Suddenly, as Chen Mo's hand slowly moved around her waist, a soft moan unintentionally escaped from Die's throat.
Her delicate body instantly weakened.
That subtle sound, however, felt like a spell to Chen Mo, making his heart pound intensely. Unable to resist, he held Die even tighter, but just as he was about to lower his head and kiss her—
"Little sister."
A seductive yet cold voice rang from outside the door.
It was Queen Medusa.
The chilling voice exploded in their ears like a bomb, instantly snapping them out of their dazed state.
Both of them sprang apart in an instant.
Coming back to her senses, Die glanced at her half-removed dress and the fair skin exposed beneath. Her face turned so red it seemed as if blood might drip from it. Her watery eyes, filled with shame and frustration, glared at Chen Mo as she scolded him,
"You scoundrel! How could you have such wicked thoughts?"
She hurriedly adjusted her dress and responded, "Sister, I'm here. What's wrong?"
[Ding! Favorability +2. Obtained 2 Favorability Coins.]
Hearing the system notification, Chen Mo felt a surge of joy, and the corners of his lips curved slightly.
There was hope.
Queen Medusa pushed the door open and swept her gaze across the room.
Chen Mo had already regained his composure, but the redness on Die's face hadn't faded.
Frowning slightly, Queen Medusa asked, "Little sister, why is your face so red?"
"Ah? Is it?" Die, unable to lie, blushed even more under Medusa's questioning.
Chen Mo quickly changed the subject, saying, "Your Majesty, why are you here?"
Queen Medusa glanced at him. "This is my bedchamber. I come and go as I please. But you—what exactly were you two doing just now?"
Her enchanting eyes locked onto Chen Mo.
"Die wanted to check on my injuries. I was just about to loosen my robe to show her when Your Majesty arrived," Chen Mo said, thinking quickly and glancing at the wooden tub in the room to reinforce his excuse.
Die immediately lowered her head and mumbled in agreement, though her flickering gaze betrayed her unease.
Queen Medusa didn't look at Die. Instead, she focused on Chen Mo, and seeing his calm expression, she didn't doubt his words—it made sense.
"How is your recovery?" she asked casually.
"Thanks to Your Majesty's medicinal herbs, my wounds have already healed. I believe I'll be fully recovered in just a few days," Chen Mo replied.
"That's good. If you need anything, come find me. I will consider it."
"Yes," Chen Mo nodded.
After finishing her sentence, Queen Medusa turned to Die, her voice notably gentler than when addressing Chen Mo.
"Didn't I tell you that if you wanted to see him, you needed my permission? Why did you come on your own?"
"Well… I saw that you weren't around, so…" Die replied playfully.
"You've seen him now. Time to leave." Queen Medusa, realizing Die had once again come to see Chen Mo, wasted no time in intervening.
With just two more days before her little sister was separated from this human, she didn't want any unnecessary trouble cropping up in the meantime.
Chen Mo frowned slightly. She's watching her too closely.
"…Alright." Though reluctant, Die didn't want to upset her sister, so she obediently followed Queen Medusa out of the room.
As she left, she waved her hand discreetly at Chen Mo behind her back.
"???"
What did that mean?
For the next two days, Chen Mo didn't get a single chance to be alone with Die.
Every time she came to see him, Queen Medusa was right by her side, making it impossible for Chen Mo to say or do anything to increase Die's favorability toward him.
On the bright side, his wounds had almost fully healed.
The sword wound on his back had scabbed over, the arrow wound and snake bite had also healed, though full recovery still required some time.
That night, Die told Chen Mo something that hit him hard.
She was going to the temple to receive her inheritance, a process that would take at least three months—at worst, it could take six months to a year.
This was frustrating.
Not only would he be unable to take advantage of her favorability for a while, but another concern weighed on him.
What if she loses her memory again during this time and forgets about me? That'd be the end.
On top of that, he wasn't sure how Queen Medusa was handling the internal affairs of their tribe.
If Die got assassinated by her own people during the inheritance process, that would be even worse…
So, he had to plan ahead. Testing the waters, he asked, "There won't be any problems, right?"
Before Die could respond, Queen Medusa's eyes turned cold. "The temple is our Snake Tribe's sacred ground, a forbidden area with extremely strict security. What problem could possibly arise?"
"No matter how strict security is, it can't stop someone from being betrayed by their own people…" Of course, Chen Mo only dared to think that in his head. Out loud, he merely said, "I hope so."
His subtle doubt, however, displeased Queen Medusa.
"You seem to be recovering well," she said. "Tomorrow, you can serve as my sparring partner."
Chen Mo: "...Wait, isn't that a bit too soon?"
"Then tonight." Queen Medusa's tone was ice-cold.
"Alright, alright, tomorrow it is," Chen Mo quickly agreed.
A smirk played at the corner of Queen Medusa's lips.
Chen Mo: "…"
"Don't worry, I'll be fine. Besides, I'm a four-star Dou Huang now, so don't underestimate me."
Die raised her small fists and playfully waved them in front of Chen Mo. A powerful aura erupted from her body.
Chen Mo was momentarily stunned.
He had almost forgotten—this wasn't the same Die from before she lost her memories. Right now, she was a true Dou Huang expert.
Among the Snake Tribe, only Queen Medusa was stronger than her.
That reassured him a little, but to feel truly at ease, he still needed to push her favorability to 100 and solidify their relationship.
With that in mind, Chen Mo winked at Die, trying to signal her to get Queen Medusa to leave.
But Die didn't understand his intent and instead asked, "What's wrong with your eyes?"
Queen Medusa also turned her gaze toward him.
Chen Mo sighed and rubbed his forehead. Left with no choice, he said directly to Queen Medusa,
"Your Majesty, Die will be undergoing her inheritance ceremony tomorrow. Can you give us a moment alone?"
Hearing this, Die's cheeks flushed, and her heartbeat quickened.
"No," Queen Medusa coldly refused.
"Just ten minutes," Chen Mo bargained.
"Do you wish to die?" A trace of killing intent flickered in Queen Medusa's eyes.
"Then… eight minutes?" He tried to negotiate.
"So, you truly have a death wish." A powerful Dou Huang aura erupted from Queen Medusa's body.
"Five minutes! Just five minutes, no less!" Chen Mo braced himself and insisted.
"Human, prepare to die."
"Three minutes! No less than three minutes!" Chen Mo interrupted her.
