Chapter 42: First Combat

Training Room

Natasha stood in front of the four recruits with a serious expression.

Kyle led Alice and Gasco outside and peered through the double-sided mirror into the room.

To assess their abilities, Natasha had requested to train with the group and test her own limits. She planned to face them all alone.

"Gasco, who do you think will win?" Kyle asked, sensing the tension growing in the air. He and Natasha frequently sparred, so he had a good sense of her current strength. Gasco, being her longtime but reluctant sparring partner, would surely have an informed opinion.

"Miss Natasha will win," Gasco replied with certainty. The old butler knew all too well how formidable Natasha was, especially given her psychic powers. No one could break through her telekinetic defenses, and he personally felt helpless every time he faced her.

He'd already observed that the four new recruits seemed far from combat-ready. Their stances were sluggish and unrefined—clearly, they hadn't developed even the most basic combat instincts. A true fighter would always be alert for a safe defensive position in a fight.

"I still think Natasha won't win so easily. Their abilities are solid," Kyle countered, casually grabbing a handful of popcorn from Alice's bucket. He was more interested in the spectacle than anything else.

Alice was there purely for entertainment, sipping her coke and munching on snacks. Kyle, ever the opportunist, was taking advantage of her presence for some free popcorn.

Indoor Training Arena

"Alright, I want you to attack me with everything you've got. No mercy," Natasha ordered as she adjusted her black tights. Her tone was stern, the instructor mode fully activated.

Kyle had once suggested designing a new suit for her, but she refused, citing a lack of trust in his fashion sense.

The abilities of the four recruits were relatively well-balanced, but each was different.

Longton, the team's tank, was built like a powerhouse, tasked with taking the brunt of Natasha's attacks.

Herb had the ability to teleport through space, making him valuable for distraction and supporting the team.

Daisy, the team's primary fighter, controlled ice, giving her the versatility to attack from both long and close range.

As for Lillian, her powers hadn't been revealed yet, but her superior physical strength was apparent—likely an enhancement from a mysterious origin, perhaps related to some kind of genetic mutation or unique circumstance, which Kyle was still investigating.

The incandescent lights above cast a harsh glow over the room as Natasha's fierce aura made the recruits shiver with unease. Prior to this, they had all been regular civilians, struggling with daily life and without any real combat experience.

None of them had faced a seasoned killer like Natasha before. To them, it was as if they were about to challenge a deadly force with no chance of survival.

"Captain, can we at least strategize for five minutes?" Lillian raised her hand, asking for a brief discussion. She knew Natasha was out of their league, and they had to come up with a game plan.

Lillian was a bright woman, having attended a prestigious university before a scandal with a powerful executive led to her banishment. Now, an orphan with few options, she had risen this far solely through her efforts.

"Fine, but only five minutes," Natasha replied, checking her watch. She was ready to relax before getting down to business.

Five Minutes Later

When Natasha returned to the training room, the four recruits had already formulated their plan and were waiting for her.

"Looks like you've prepared. Let's get started," Natasha said, cracking her knuckles and smiling with a gleam of anticipation in her eyes. She was eager to teach these newbies a lesson.

The information about each recruit had already been gathered by the Red Queen system. Aside from Longton, who had formal combat training, the others were far from ready for a real fight.

"Bring it on, Captain Natasha!" Lillian declared with an overly confident smile. Even if they were defeated, she hoped to leave a lasting impression on Natasha.

At that moment, Longton charged forward with impressive speed, his massive frame moving with the force of a freight train.

His strength and size were formidable, but Natasha wasn't concerned. With her telekinesis, she calmly raised her hand, her mind's power wrapping around Longton. The brain field was at 28% capacity, a level of psychic strength strong enough to lift a heavy truck, far beyond what Longton's physical strength could withstand.

Before he could even react, Natasha effortlessly lifted him into the air, sending him crashing into the wall with a powerful thud. A dent was left in the concrete.

"Unbelievable..." Kyle muttered, his eyes wide in surprise. The other recruits stood frozen, shocked at how quickly their supposed tank was defeated.

Natasha didn't waste time. She moved toward Herb, targeting the weakest of the group. According to the data, Herb had the least combat prowess among them.

Herb's backstory wasn't pretty. A once-promising young man with a bright future had descended into addiction, losing his girlfriend and family. After undergoing a grueling recovery process, he eventually joined the ranks of those with powers. But despite his physical abilities, his body and spirit were far from resilient, especially after his years of drug abuse.

Natasha knew better than to underestimate him. She had no intentions of holding back because of his troubled past. Herb's powers were still valuable and needed to be tested.

"Damn, why is she so strong?" Lillian thought, watching the spectacle unfold. Longton, who they had expected to last longer, had been eliminated in less than a minute. Now, she could only imagine what would happen to Herb.

The recruits had underestimated Natasha's sheer power—and now, they were paying the price.
