Chapter 19: Chapter 19: The Offer

Location: Aldo's Warehouse, Watson — Late Afternoon

The Aerondight S9 glided to a halt outside Aldo's warehouse as the setting sun painted long shadows across Watson's worn concrete grounds. The door hissed open, and David stepped out first. Gone was the scrawny kid; in his place stood a tighter, sharper frame—broad shoulders beneath a sleek navy-blue suit that hung without a wrinkle. His cybernetic enhancements glinted faintly in the fading light.

Rebecca cracked a grin. "Is that really him?"

Falco, arms crossed, nodded slowly. "Yeah, that wasn't how I imagined him."

Lucy studied him warily—same man, new presence.

Next, David walked to the other side of the car, opened the door for M.

M exited like smoke unfurling—tall, imposing, every movement powerful and purposeful. The crew stiffened, caught off guard by M's sheer presence.

He scanned them once, deliberately, then spoke.

"Aren't you going to invite us in?" M said in his deep voice.

Silence. Then Maine stepped forward, expression flat but simmering.

"Who the hell are you? And what the fuck did you do to David?"

M didn't flinch. His voice was calm, low.

M: "He works for me now. Full insurance. Top-tier cyberware. Personalized training. things your level of existence can't imagine."

Maine's anger ignited. He lunged—but M vanished. When he reappeared, Maine was already on the ground, disoriented.

As M turned and walked toward the warehouse, his voice drifted back.

M: "Come on. I've got an offer for all of you."

Inside, a sturdy office space awaited: a sturdy table, chairs scuffed from heavy use, stripped crates repurposed into shelves of tech. M seated himself at the head of the table, back straight, legs crossed. David stood behind him, expression unreadable. The rest of the crew settled around, tense and wary.

"I want to extend you all an invitation. A job at Aegis Security Firm." M said in a measured, low voice.

Silence. No one moved.

"Top pay. Real health coverage. Military-grade cyberequipment. Training. Purpose."

"And why should we trust you? We've been doing fine." Maine said in a skeptical tone.

M leaned forward.

"If you're content living like vermin—scrapping for scraps, patching low-grade chrome that glitches and sparks... then yeah, you're doing fine."

Maine bristled but remained silent.

M turned to Maine directly, unblinking.

"Maine—your hardware's old and miscalibrated. That's why your systems shock you mid-op. That's the beginning of cyberpsychosis. Sign on with me and I'll replace it. Gen‑5 implants, tailored fit."

He turned slowly to Kiwi, voice softer,

"Kiwi—you've got debt bleeding holes in your records, courtesy of Faraday. You strap up, work the fight, and half the money goes to him. You want closure on that debt? Lose it?. I'll wipe it clean, Gen‑5 implants and a new face."

Kiwi's jaw fluttered, but her eyes were steady—she had to weigh pride against possibility.

M shifted his gaze to Lucy next, voice deliberate.

"Lucy Kushinada—I know you've been running since you escaped Arasaka's test chamber. You stay paranoid, you never rest. Sign up, and Arasaka will stop chasing you."

Lucy's breath caught. She looked away.

He continued,

"Pilar, you will get top implants, all Gen 5 ........

M maid an offer to every member of the crew,

Then M paused, letting the weight of his offers settle.

"But this isn't charity. It's a contract. Full loyalty." M said in a serious tone.

Maine glared, folding his arms.

Maine:"And if we refuse?"

M's tone was quiet, final.

M:"Then you stay where you are. Street-level scav scum. No upgrades, no backup, no future. I'm no charity—this is an opportunity."

A tense hush fell.

Then M turned to David, nodding once.

"See for yourselves. Try to take him down."

Silence.

One by one, they surged.

Maine threw the first punch, heavy and wild.

David fired up the sandi then sidestepped fluidly, left fist snapping into Maine's throat, right into his ribs.

Rebecca lunged next, pistol raised. David used the sandi to disarm her. Her weapon clattered aside.

Dorio swung a baton. David caught it, bent the steel with his grip, and flipped Dorio onto her back.

Lucy and Kiwi. Tried hacking and deploying daemons, but David's ICE held firm, they couldn't even breach it.

Falco and Pilar coordinated: one heavy punch, one leg sweep; David ducked, feinted, countered.

Seconds later, every single one was on the floor, panting. David towered over them, chest rising and falling—not a drop of fear in his eyes.

Maine looked up at David, breathing heavily.

Maine: "Fuck... that was… not possible in two weeks."

David stepped back.

M rose from his seat.

M:"You saw what he is. He's mine. If I can do this to David in two weeks... imagine what I can do for you."

Maine glanced at each crew member—their faces bruised, beaten, awakened.

M cleared his throat.

"So. Decide."

They hesitated.

David spoke up, voice low but firm.

"He didn't just train me. He transformed me. From nothing to this," he gestured to himself, " for kicks. He killed thousands of scavs like it was his hobby. He's not just powerful—he's unstoppable. You saw how you couldn't even touch me. and I have never won against him"

He paused, eyes on Maine.

"If you sign up, this can be you."

The crew sat in silence, digesting the offer.

Maine exhaled slowly.

 "Alright."

One after another—nods and grimaces. They'd made the choice.

"Good. Contracts will be drawn. I'll see your signatures by midnight. Then you start real tomorrow." M said in a neutral tone, then smiled at them and said, "Welcome to the major leagues".

He turned and walked out with David at his side.
