Chapter 21: Chapter 21 : The political party.

Aegis HQ – Executive Office, Morning....

Through the panoramic window in front of him, M watched Night City unfold—skyscrapers and corporate neon igniting against the dawn. Slow Jazz music played softly from the hidden speakers, blending into the background hum of Aegis HQ, footsteps in the corridors, distant chatter from the repair bay, and tinny voices at reception.

He then sat at his desk, polished obsidian black, strewn with contract folders, encrypted holo-readers, and a half-drunk espresso. A large wall-mounted board behind him displayed recruitment stats, mission deployments, netrunner job logs, and financial projections all streaming in real time.

David stepped in quietly, bringing in the first set of daily morning reports.

"Sir, we've been contracted by multiple firms overnight—two mid-level corpos, five politicians, and three private stars. Combined contracts sum up to 14 million eddies."

M glanced over with a faint nod.

"Show me the breakdown."

David tapped his slate. Holograms floated: Andrew Wells Pharma, TekCorp Talent Security, Councilman Campos for the Gilded Gala, plus ex-suburban celebrity Lila Cross for personal tour management.

"Special projects, minor private protection, vehicle convoy plus a corpo sponsorship for a recreational expo next week." Davis said.

M nodded and smiled the faintest of smiles.

He stood and walked to the window.

"Aegis is now certifiably high-end. Our next step is political security. We play this right, and we bake legitimacy."

David nodded. He'd grown into the role of lieutenant—calm, efficient, always looking for patterns.

M's glasses interface flickered an incoming secure VidCall from Rogue.

Rogue's avatar appeared in his field of vision, serious and intimidating with the faintest of smirks.

"The man you want? Peralez. He's just let go of his security detail after a… disagreement."

"Let me guess, you had nothing to do with it?" M replied with a smirk of his own.

"Class action, corruption claims. Anyway, I told him about Aegis. I told him you took down scavs like a storm. He'll call." she said with a small wink.

"Thanks. And don't forget—I gave you 10% equity for a reason." M leaned forward a bit.

"I know sugar. Don't worry—I didn't just vouch for you, I vouched for us. Gonna call him now." Rouge replied with a laugh.

She flicked and vanished. M closed his interface.

"Time to lock in phase two."

David stood to M's left, silent, absorbing the atmosphere of controlled authority.

Aegis HQ – Lobby, Twenty-Four Hours Later.....

The doors parted as Jefferson Peralez stepped into the luxurious reception area, flanked by his wife, Elizabeth, and behind, their college student daughter, Xochi. Jefferson's posture was solid but tired; the look of a man suddenly without guardians in this city showed on his face.

They were greeted by David, who offered cordial warmth in his voice without over-familiarity.

"Councilman Peralez, Mrs. Peralez, this way, please."

He led them through the lobby, where the framed Aegis emblem glinted across the polished floor. They passed the netrunner booths and heard the distant whirr of simulators and munitions hum. Jefferson paused, eyebrow raised.

"This… looks serious," the councilman said quietly.

David nodded. "In Aegis, we guarantee the quality of our agents. All our agents are trained in both elegance and efficiency, they can be your everyday butlers and drivers while being total killing machines in the fields. we guarantee their loyalty by giving them top of the line military grade cyber implants, personal and family insurance be it medical, educational or day to day life insurances, we value our agents mental health and insure it, we even give them two days off a week a feat only our agency can boast off. You see, councilman, we treat our employees like humans, not machines, and they in turn serve the company with utmost devotion. We like to say that Aegis is one big, elegant family."

They entered the boardroom. M was already standing near the window, arms folded. He nodded once to welcome them.

M stood before the councilman and his wife. Xochi leaned against the wall, arms crossed, eyes patient and cool.

"I appreciate you considering us ", M began. "I've tracked your previous engagements, and I understand your previous security firm withdrew under pressure. You deserve better. I have seen what you strive to do for this city, ensuring health and education for every child is a noble aspiration"

Jefferson shifted, gaze steady. "I'm considering my options. My wife and daughter need security, not bodyguards who disappear when the lights go out. So that I can face the world with peace of mind"

M's tone deepened. "I understand and I stand with you. This city has seen enough dark days, and it's about time someone starts thinking of what is really important, the people, they are what matter, it's about time someone stood for the underdogs. I'm offering a long-term partnership. Aegis doesn't just shield you—they plan for you. We offer full campaign-level security when or if you run for mayor next year. Current security operations begin now, and if you decide to run, we'll step in with strategic planning—image protection, crisis management, blackmail mitigation, and financial donations and before you refuse we are not like Arasaka and the rest we don't want anything in return i just wish to see this city flourish and i am ready to do whatever to make it flourish"

"I will consider it, Mr. M ", Jefferson said softly. still reeling from the offer

'Maybe I found a kindred spirit', he thought, looking at M.

Elizabeth's eyes glowed. "Honey, that… would be exactly what we need."

Xochi's expression didn't shift, but her posture softened.

Jefferson inclined his head. "Fine, send me a contract. We'll review it. My campaign isn't official yet—but when it is, I want Aegis at my side."

M nodded, satisfied. "Think it through, I believe you won't regret agreeing if you do."

Planning Office, executive floor. An Hour Later .....

M held court with department heads: Maine, Kiwi, Falco, David, Rebecca, Tiny Mike, Iris Tanner and the rest.

M laid out the Peralez contract

"This is more than protection. It's stability and political standing. We need to align every department to that objective."

He turned to Maine.

"Your field team will handle secure transport and event security. You'll coordinate with Falco's logistics on route planning."

Maine nodded slowly, his cybernetic eye glowing red.

"To you, Kiwi—network integrity. Keep all Peralez digital assets clean."

Kiwi's fingers silently tapped.

Falco listened, then replied, "Transport team on backup convoys. Iris, Liam will join you."

M moved to David. "You'll lead personal protection for Xochi. She's 22, college schedule. Keep close, but unseen."

David grimaced. "Understood."

M eyed them one by one, voice steady. "This partnership must appear flawless. If controversies erupt, it falls on us."

David looked at M in doubt

"Sir, they haven't agreed yet. Why are we even planning?"

M smiled at David, "They will agree David, I can assure you of that".

They all nodded and chose to simply trust their boss.

One day later, M's office...

Kiwi entered the office

"I need to tell you something, sir. Faraday has contacted me, he wants me to work for him again and sell him agency secrets."

M just nodded, then called Maine, ordering him to dispose of Faraday and make sure everyone knows why he died.

Maine took a strike team and headed to Faraday's hideout.

Faraday was hanged naked in the middle of his hideout street.

Back in the vehicle, Maine sat thinking, then he muttered.

"Aegis can't be touched by anyone."

Aegis HQ — Executive Office, next Morning...

M's glasses pinged. The Peralezes just signed the full contract. His gloved finger flicked the confirmation.

"Aegis is now an official political party", he said to David.

David watched him—silent, aware.

"Next step, sir?"

M fixed his gaze on the skyline. Then smiled a little "Next, we wait. By the way, how is the new apartment?"

David smiled and said, "It's goo,d not as luxurious as your mansion, but it's mine and I love it, Mom said hi by the way"

M nodded and then closed his eyes, thinking.
