Chapter 13: Chapter 13: David's Morning
7:20 AM.
Driven by his biological clock, the young man who had lived in Santo Domingo since childhood opened his eyes from his bedroom bed. He squinted, his pupils devoid of any light, staring blankly at the ceiling. After a long while, those dead-fish-like pupils finally began to focus.
"Phew~"
The boy let out a long breath.
The black Super Dream he got from the doctor last night was simply too stimulating; even in his sleep, his brain occasionally conjured up those bloody scenes. Reaching out to rub his temples, the young man threw off the thin blanket covering him, got up, and shook his head, trying to dispel the lingering Super Dream images. Unfortunately, he failed.
Picking up his Arasaka Academy student uniform from the foot of the bed, the young man dressed himself while walking barefoot out of the bedroom; he needed to go to the bathroom first.
Before stepping into the bathroom, his peripheral vision caught sight of a figure sprawled on the sofa in the living room, a yellow uniform jacket half-covering the person, half-draped on the floor.
"Always causing trouble, why is she sleeping on the sofa again?"
The young man scratched his head and walked over, intending to cover his mother with the jacket, but with each step, his expression subtly changed.
Only when he got closer did he see that the person on the sofa wasn't his mother, but a completely unfamiliar young man who was still sound asleep.
A blush rose to the young man's face; he was very angry now.
"Tsk, who the hell are you! Why are you in my house?"
The young man angrily reached out to pull the sleeping man on the sofa. At this moment, the man, who had been sound asleep, suddenly opened his eyes, his dark brown pupils reflecting the boy's angry face and slowly extended hand.
Acting first despite moving second, a hand grabbed the boy's wrist, and before the boy could react, he was restrained.
"Slap~"
A slap landed on the boy's pineapple-haired head. Alex Knight pinned the boy's hands with one hand, twisting them behind his back, and pressed his knee into the boy's back, subduing the young man who had disturbed his sleep and ambushed him onto the sofa.
"My morning temper is quite bad."
Alex had only entered this apartment with Gloria at three in the morning and had only slept for four hours on the sofa.
"Let go of me! Who are you? Why are you in my house?"
The boy struggled incessantly, trying to get up, but with his hands pinned and his waist pressed, he couldn't exert any force. He could only lie on the sofa, shaking his head in helpless rage.
"You disturb someone's dream and you're still in the right? As for why I'm in your house, well, I just arrived in Night City and had nowhere to stay, so your mother kindly brought me here for a few days."
"You're lying! My mom would never bring a stranger home."
The young man retorted, but his eyes subtly reddened. It wasn't surprising that the young man overthought things, as this was the first time in his 16 years that he had seen his mother bring a stranger home, and a man at that, who was sleeping with his mother's clothes draped over him.
Thinking of this, the young man felt indignant and struggled even more violently. Unfortunately, the difference in their physical fitness was too great; the young man's strength was truly insignificant in front of Alex.
Alex watched the struggling young man, a faint glow flickering in his eyes. But this personality was quite similar to David Martinez's at the beginning of Edgerunners. He couldn't even swear a few Night City curses.
Gloria, as a mother, had raised her son to be nothing like the young people of this era, but rather like a good student from a peaceful era in his hometown. But in Night City in 2075, the young man's personality was that of a foolish, naive hothead.
**David Martinez**
- **Age:** 16
- **Identity:** Student
- **Cyberware Coverage:** 12%
- **Description:** An excellent student at Arasaka Academy, his physique has a special insensitivity to implants, allowing him to bear the mental erosion of multiple cyberware.
- **P.S.:** One shot of vodka, with ice, mixed with a small cola.
"Alex! What are you doing! Let go of my son!"
At this moment, Gloria, awakened by the commotion, rushed over, pushed Alex away, and helped David up from the sofa, half-crouching, her slightly red eyes nervously scanning her son up and down to see if he was injured.
Alex stood aside with his arms crossed, saying nothing. In fact, when Gloria rushed over, he had deliberately relaxed his body, otherwise, he wouldn't have been pushed away so easily.
Bullying someone's son in their own home and being caught red-handed made him feel a little embarrassed.
And Alex felt even more embarrassed looking at the red-haired lady's current appearance.
Gloria must have been woken up by his and David's commotion. Perhaps because she was worried about David, she rushed out of the bedroom wearing only a silky red nightgown. When she half-crouched, the rounded outline of her buttocks was clearly visible.
Alex stood beside her, his gaze unconsciously drifting from the loose neckline of her nightgown to two full, snowy mounds. Her figure was surprisingly good!
"Mom, why is this person in our house?" David pointed at Alex with one hand, asking his mother, Gloria, full of anger.
Gloria breathed a sigh of relief when she saw her son was not injured, and hearing David's words, she could only explain helplessly:
"This is a friend from my work. Due to some special circumstances, he's staying with us for a few days."
David breathed a sigh of relief after hearing Gloria's explanation, and the anger in his heart slowly subsided. He knew how hard Gloria worked to earn money to send him to school. He also hoped that his mother could have someone to rely on, so she wouldn't have to work hard overtime every day, supporting this family alone.
But David didn't want his mother to find someone who looked about the same age as himself. Although this man was a little handsome, handsomeness was the cheapest thing in this city. Moreover, the man in front of him didn't even have a place to live.
David sat on the sofa, craning his neck and putting on a fierce expression, glaring at Alex with his eyes, like a wolf declaring its territory, signaling Alex to stay away from his mother.
"Oh, wow, the kid's putting on quite a show."
But a husky is a husky; no matter how much it bares its teeth and acts fierce, it needs more skill to become a wolf king.
"I'm a very close friend of your mother's. You can call me Alex, or of course, you can call me Uncle Alex."
Emphasizing "very close friend," Alex finished speaking, raised an eyebrow at David, and gave a mischievous smile. His ill intentions were clear.
"You bastard, I…"
He broke down in a second. David was about to charge forward when Gloria pressed him down.
"Alex, shut your mouth! David, you settle down too."
Gloria clutched her head, a headache forming. This 'home' hadn't been this 'lively' in a long time.
"I'm going to make breakfast, David, you go wash up."
Gloria first sent David away; some things weren't suitable for the child to hear.
"Oh~" David reluctantly scurried to the bathroom; he was a bit unable to hold it in.
Once David left, Gloria looked at the troublesome young man in front of her. No, he was her employer now. On the way back this morning, this person had bought out her time for the day for ten thousand euros.
Heh heh.
Ten thousand euros!
In Santo Domingo, an ordinary worker, working 16 hours a day, would have to work non-stop for six months to earn that much money. This person just gave it out so generously, and all she had to do was drive him around Night City.
According to him, it was his first time in this city, and he needed a guide and driver to take him around Night City and buy some things.
Of course, this money also included his food and lodging expenses for the next week.
But none of that mattered. Anyway, he would just sleep on the sofa, and his meals would be the same as David's: breakfast at home, and lunch and dinner would be a 10-euro nutritional meal from a vending machine.
At most 200 euros in cost, plus her one day of time, and she could earn 10,000 euros.
"If only money were always this easy to make."
"Don't bully David, or I'll ask you to leave my house immediately, and I'll refund your money," Gloria said with a serious expression.
"Alright, whatever you say." Alex spread his hands and agreed indifferently.
"But David made the first move just now." Alex felt it was still necessary to explain himself.
"Regardless, that's enough. I'm going to cook.
Also, there are no extra toiletries at home. After breakfast, when David goes to school, I'll take you to the supermarket to buy some." Gloria finished speaking and turned to walk into the kitchen.
Watching Gloria, dressed in her red silk nightgown, busy in the kitchen, Alex picked up the yellow jacket from the floor, shook it, and placed it on the sofa.
"What a gentle mother."
However.
His gaze shifted towards the kitchen.
Alex seemed to remember something, chuckled, and walked in as well.
