Chapter 7: Chapter 6: First Blood in the Dungeon
The moment the three goblin corpses faded into black mist, small magic stones were left behind.
Kanae Kocho lowered her blade, exhaling softly.
The other two goblins—who had been charging at Hayasaka Ai and Kato Megumi—didn't dare look back.
They had just watched three of their own die instantly.
But fear wasn't enough to stop them.
They lunged forward.
"Megumi! Be careful!" Hayasaka Ai shouted, tightening her grip on her sword.
She had to focus.
Seeing Kanae cut down three goblins so effortlessly made it clear.
She had a long way to go.
"Okay!" Megumi Kato nodded, her hands trembling slightly as she adjusted her stance.
Kanae stepped back, watching carefully.
Her instincts as a warrior kicked in.
She would protect them—just as she once failed to protect her sister.
This time, she wouldn't let anyone die.
---
The goblin rushed forward, its filthy claws raised.
Hayasaka Ai's breathing slowed.
Her mind screamed at her to move.
Swing. The. Blade.
Her left foot stepped forward, her sword arcing downward from the right.
SHINK!
The goblin let out a bloodcurdling scream.
But it wasn't dead.
Its chest was slashed open, green blood gushing from the wound.
Hayasaka Ai bit her lip, her pulse racing.
She didn't stop.
She lunged again—two more quick slashes.
The goblin collapsed.
Its body faded into black mist, leaving behind a small magic stone.
Hayasaka Ai stared at her shaking hands.
She had done it.
She had killed a monster.
A surge of exhilaration rushed through her.
She wasn't weak.
She could fight.
And she could win.
---
While Hayasaka Ai caught her breath, Megumi Kato was still fighting her goblin.
Unlike Ai, she had no experience with combat.
She could barely keep up.
The goblin swung its club, forcing Megumi to dodge clumsily.
She was always on the defensive, unable to land a clean hit.
Her hands felt heavy.
Her breath shaky.
If she kept this up—
She would lose.
Her mind screamed:
Use magic.
Megumi took a deep breath and whispered the spell.
"Hide."
A strange wave of energy rippled around her.
And in an instant—
She vanished.
The goblin froze.
Its tiny brain couldn't comprehend what had just happened.
Where was the enemy?
It panicked, looking around wildly.
Megumi, now completely invisible, wiped the sweat from her forehead.
This spell—"Hide"—made her undetectable to any monster below Level 2.
But there was a catch.
She could barely move while invisible.
If she attacked, she would reappear immediately.
And she only had one chance.
She needed to strike at the perfect moment.
She waited.
The goblin turned away.
Now!
Megumi reappeared behind it, dagger raised.
SHINK!
She slashed its neck.
Not deep enough to kill it instantly, but the wound was bad.
The goblin stumbled, gurgling in pain.
Megumi didn't hesitate.
She stabbed it again—this time straight through the throat.
The goblin collapsed.
A moment later—its body vanished, leaving only a magic stone behind.
Megumi exhaled shakily.
She had done it.
She had won.
---
Hayasaka Ai rushed over and patted Megumi's shoulder.
"Nice job, Megumi" she grinned.
Megumi forced a smile, still catching her breath.
"Thanks…"
"Let's rest for a bit before moving on," Ai suggested, noticing Megumi's pale face.
Megumi nodded. She needed a moment to calm down.
They had won their first battle.
But this was only the beginning.
---
Meanwhile, Back at the Dungeon Entrance…
Sora stood outside, arms crossed.
He had watched the three girls enter the Dungeon earlier.
And now, his eyes flickered toward a certain group nearby.
Loki Familia.
More specifically—
Ais Wallenstein.
Sora narrowed his eyes.
Ais was staring at the Dungeon Entrance.
Not just at the entrance—
At the three girls who had just gone in.
She looked… interested.
And then—
She started walking toward him.
---
Tiona froze.
"Wait—Ais! Where are you going?!"
She quickly ran after Ais, completely confused.
Ais ignored her, her golden eyes focused on one person.
Sora.
Ais stopped right in front of him.
"Hello."
Sora blinked.
"...Uh, hi?"
Ais hesitated, then asked bluntly—
"Those three girls… are they in your Familia?"
Sora narrowed his eyes slightly.
"...Yeah. Why?"
Ais' expression changed slightly.
There was something different in her gaze.
A spark of curiosity.
A flicker of determination.
"Who is the girl… with the butterfly hairpin?"
Sora's eyebrows shot up.
"...Kanae?"
Ais' hands tightened into fists.
"I want to meet her."
Sora was stunned.
He had never seen Ais Wallenstein this interested in someone before.
Even Tiona was shocked.
"Ais, what's going on?!"
Ais didn't look away from Sora.
"She's… strong."
Sora exhaled slowly, rubbing his temples.
"Well… let's wait for them to finish their first adventure."
Ais nodded immediately.
"Okay."
Tiona nearly fell over in shock.
Sora just sighed.
His Familia was attracting attention.
And this was only the first day.
