At four in the morning, Cael woke, rubbing his eyes as a yawn stretched through him. He felt thoroughly rested.
Turning his head, he saw Hestia sleeping soundly beside him, twisted into an amusingly peculiar pose. A soft smile touched his lips, and a quiet chuckle escaped him as he watched her. Gently, he reached for a blanket and draped it carefully over her.
He then rose and headed to the bathroom, needing a shower to cleanse himself of the sweat that clung to his skin—a lingering residue from a nightmare. Though he couldn't quite call it a nightmare in the traditional sense, his body had throbbed with extreme pain throughout his dream. He guessed it was a side effect of his ability, Crimson Rebirth.
After his shower, he put on the shirt and pants he'd worn the day before. He didn't have any spare clothes, a constant annoyance that forced him to clean the same set repeatedly, waiting for them to dry while he covered himself with a towel.
'I should probably buy some spare clothes for myself,' Cael made a mental note. He then donned his leather armor, which was practically falling apart, and picked up his newly acquired sword, taking his old one as a backup, just in case.
He headed out into the pre-dawn stillness; dawn had yet to break, and the labyrinthine streets of Orario were completely deserted. He was truly the only one awake at this early hour. It was a habit of his, waking early to maintain discipline, a practice ingrained from his previous life as a boxer and wrestler where such rigor had been essential.
After walking for a few minutes, he reached the Guild building and stepped inside. The expansive hall, usually bustling with adventurers and staff, was empty save for a lone figure slumped at a desk. It was an elf with glasses, her straight brown hair falling to her shoulders.
'She's sleeping,' Cael thought, approaching her silently. He gently nudged her shoulder, rousing her from her slumber. She stirred groggily, letting out a soft yawn. As she rubbed her eyes, her gaze fell upon Cael, and she practically shrieked as if she'd seen a ghost.
"Oh! An adventurer?" she exclaimed, her eyes widening as they registered his worn attire and the sword at his hip.
"Yes," Cael replied, a small chuckle escaping him as he watched her face flush with embarrassment. "And Miss, you certainly gave me a fright when you screamed."
"Sorry," she mumbled, quickly recovering. "I just thought you were a ghost. We don't usually have adventurers arriving quite so early." She glanced at the clock, noting the time. The Guild, the neutral organization managing all adventurers and their Dungeon expeditions, was typically a hive of activity by now, but at this hour, it was mostly deserted.
"I guess it's my fault then," Cael conceded good-naturedly. "By the way, is Misha here?" He scanned the vast hall again, confirming it remained empty.
"No, she comes a little later," the elf replied, pushing her glasses higher on her nose. The thought flickered through her mind: 'Why is he asking about Misha? Is she his girlfriend or something?'
"Okay," Cael said, bringing her attention back to him. "Can you get me fifteen Low Healing Potions and three daggers?" He knew the Guild stocked their own standard provisions. While their potions were often low quality and their armory offered nothing exceptional, they were reliable. "And if it's possible, do you have any light armor with you? As you can see, mine is quite tattered. Also, a side bag to store the potions and a big pouch to store the Magic Stones would be great," Cael added with a polite smile.
"Um, okay. I'll be back in a moment," Eina said, her voice a little flustered, before she hurried to the back to retrieve the items.
After a few minutes, she returned, carrying the requested goods. "That will be 24,600 Valis," Eina said, offering him a professional smile.
"Thank you very much," Cael said, handing her the money. "By the way, what is your name?" He asked, not wanting to arouse suspicion by simply taking his items and leaving without a basic introduction.
"My name is Eina," she replied.
"Nice to meet you, Eina. I'm Cael," he said, smiling genuinely as he extended his hand and gently shook her small, gloved hand.
"Um, yeah," Eina responded, a small, red tint appearing on her cheeks as she returned his smile.
'He looks so cute,' she mused internally. as she saw him taking his leather armour off and wearing the new light armour and also wearing the side bag and then stored the daggers and potions in there.
"Can you take care of this?" Cael said as he gave the old armour back to her.
"Ok." Eina said as she grabbed the armour and placed it under the counter.
"See you later, Eina," Cael said, giving her a final nod before turning and heading directly for the Dungeon.
