Chapter 207: Chapter 207 The Multiverse! S.H.I.E.L.D. Trouble!
Thor, though nervous for Odin under Frigga watchful eye, was equally curious about his father answer.
Earlier, on the Bifröst, Sif question had completely flustered him.
He was certain there was no way he could have a daughter.
A goddess turned into his daughter?
Could anything be more absurd?
"She is, of course, not my daughter," Odin said, rolling his eye. "Frigga, surely you know me better than that?"
"Hmph."
Frigga snorted, then turned and left.
She could tell Odin wasn't lying and decided she didn't need to listen any further.
As his mother walked away, Thor turned back to Odin.
"Father, if she not your daughter, and she not my daughter, then why would Sif and the others think that? Or why would those Earthlings assume she my daughter?"
Thor couldn't wrap his head around where the rumor had originated.
"Maybe she really is Zeus daughter," Odin said with a laugh before disappearing from Thor sight.
"Huh?"
Thor stood frozen, bewildered. "I don't get it."
Could he really have an illegitimate daughter?
Hearing his father response, Thor felt like his brain was on the verge of short-circuiting.
Couldn't he just speak plainly?
"Thor, some things will become clear to you with time," Odin voice lingered in the air as it faded.
...
The Royal Palace.
Frigga looked at her husband, hesitating for a moment. "That young woman is extraordinary. The purity of her divine power rivals Thor. There something very similar about her energy."
"I know," Odin nodded. "She is indeed connected to the gods, but not necessarily to Asgard."
"What do you mean?" Frigga asked.
Odin expression grew thoughtful.
"There are forces beyond this realm, beyond our Nine Realms—a multiverse of infinite possibilities.
Diana Prince, or Wonder Woman as she is called, is an anomaly in our universe.
Her presence here is no accident, and her power carries the signature of gods who are not of Asgard.
She may very well belong to another pantheon, from another dimension."
Frigga eyes widened. "Another pantheon… another dimension… Then her presence here—"
"It is both a boon and a harbinger of challenges yet to come," Odin said gravely. "The multiverse is vast, Frigga, and with it comes endless opportunities—and dangers."
...
Earth.
In Puente Antiguo, New Mexico, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were busy analyzing the aftermath of the Asgardians' visit.
Coulson stood among them, his gaze focused on the area where the Destroyer had wreaked havoc.
"Sir, we've identified residual energy signatures from the Bifröst," an agent reported.
Coulson nodded, deep in thought. "Good. Catalog it. This kind of data could be invaluable in the future."
But he couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to come—more gods, more battles, and more mysteries.
The appearance of Wonder Woman had opened a door to questions far beyond Earth current understanding.
And Coulson had a sinking suspicion that S.H.I.E.L.D. was about to find itself in the thick of it.
Frigga froze for a moment, but as someone who had lived as long as Odin, her insight and understanding far exceeded Thor. In an instant, she grasped Odin meaning.
"The multiverse!"
Frigga exclaimed, "You're saying she comes from a divine pantheon of the multiverse?"
"Yes, and I'm just as surprised as you," Odin replied, standing on the palace balcony.
He gazed at the setting sun, his sight seeming to pierce through countless dimensions to focus on a bald figure somewhere far away.
"There is a presence in her that does not belong to this universe. I hadn't expected the Sorcerer Supreme to allow someone from the multiverse into our realm..."
...
Earth.
"It finally over," Anton exhaled deeply. He approached Coulson and explained that he needed to leave immediately.
Coulson, polite as always, had no reason to refuse. He arranged for agents to escort Anton to the airport.
Though Anton had only been in Puente Antiguo for half a day, in that short time, a dangerous and eye-opening event had come to an end.
"He said everything is resolved?"
Hawkeye watched as Anton car left the small town, then turned to Coulson with a puzzled look.
"He said Wonder Woman has handled everything, including the matters in Asgard," Coulson replied.
"The All-Father Odin has awakened, the mastermind escaped, and Thor has regained his powers."
After a pause, he added, "Anton also said that Thor might appear before us soon to explain everything and possibly offer an apology."
"So… that guy really is Thor?"
Hawkeye still found it hard to believe.
The idea of Thor was one thing, but the revelation that gods truly existed in the world had shaken his worldview.
However, Hawkeye also understood that these so-called gods were merely beings with advanced civilizations and greater power.
They looked remarkably human, and their superior strength had led earlier human civilizations to worship them as deities.
In today age, no one could be deemed a god—nor could anyone be declared one.
"Are we staying here to wait for Thor?"
Hawkeye glanced around as dusk fell. The surrounding desert landscape, bathed in the warm hues of sunset, had a certain rugged charm.
"No need," Coulson replied, shaking his head. "I asked Anton the same thing, and his answer was: 'If Thor wants to find us, it won't matter where we are—he'll find us.'"
"Oh?"
Hawkeye raised an eyebrow, recognizing the implications of that statement.
It suggested that, against a godlike civilization, S.H.I.E.L.D. power amounted to little more than nothing.
"I need to leave immediately and return to headquarters," Coulson said.
"There are matters I need to report directly to the Director—and in person."
Coulson then turned to Hawkeye. "Barton, you'll oversee the withdrawal after I leave."
"Understood. Go ahead."
As they spoke, a plane descended overhead, deactivating its cloaking system and revealing itself to the agents on the ground.
It was a S.H.I.E.L.D. aircraft with a special designation, reserved for high-ranking agents like Coulson.
Faster than most commercial airliners, it was equipped for rapid deployment.
Coulson quickly boarded, accompanied by Erik Selvig.
This was a direct order from Director Nick Fury.
After receiving Coulson initial report, Fury had seen Selvig name on the list of personnel at the site and immediately instructed Coulson to bring him to headquarters.
Selvig wasn't just an astrophysicist he was also an accomplished physicist with extensive research in multiple fields.
He even had connections to Bruce Banner.
A genius by association, Selvig expertise was invaluable.
The plane, faster than most conventional aircraft, brought Coulson and Selvig to Washington in just a few hours.
"Dr. Selvig, please take some time to rest," Coulson said politely.
Valuable scientific minds like Erik Selvig were always in short supply within S.H.I.E.L.D., no matter how many they had on hand.
After instructing his subordinates to make Selvig comfortable, Coulson strode toward the headquarters building and ascended to the top floor to Director Nick Fury office.
Even though it was already the early hours of the morning, Fury, aware of Coulson impending return, had stayed up to wait for him.
"Director," Coulson said, knocking before stepping into the office.
"Wonder Woman has appeared, and her status as a god has been confirmed..."
He paused, his expression turning serious as he shared his hypothesis.
"I believe Superman may also have emerged, though I suspect Clark Kent isn't on Earth at the moment but somewhere in the cosmos."
Fury looked up at him, his face impassive, and let out a long sigh.
"Coulson, put the Justice League aside for now. I have something else to discuss with you."
He began speaking slowly, delivering a sentence that left Coulson stunned and unable to control his reaction.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. is in big trouble," Fury said gravely.
"We've been infiltrated! And those hidden within S.H.I.E.L.D. call themselves HYDRA!"
...
New York.
Back in his own territory, Anton watched the sunrise lazily and let out a yawn.
Reflecting on the events of the previous day, he could sum it up in one word profit.
With his Justice Points now totaling a clean 40 million, Anton had enough to purchase a powerful, specialized Batman suit.
By "powerful," he meant a suit capable of going toe-to-toe with Superman.
Of course, whether he could actually win was another matter entirely.
In the Marvel Universe, where kryptonite didn't exist, Superman was effectively a hero without weaknesses.
Perhaps magic might give him some pause, but even that wouldn't set him back by much.
As for the interactions between Wonder Woman and Odin in Asgard yesterday, Anton didn't dwell on them.
He didn't believe Odin could discern Wonder Woman true identity or origin.
Though Odin was immensely powerful, practically a ceiling-level figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such foresight into past and future events was a feat only the Sorcerer Supreme, the Ancient One, could achieve.
From another perspective, Anton had unshakable confidence in his "system."
Someone might sense something unusual about the avatars he controlled, but the idea that all the "heroes" were actually the same person? That was simply beyond anyone imagination.
