Chapter 15: Chapter twenty nine and thirty
Chapter 29: Enter V-Mon – The First Mission with Batman
(Batman's POV – The Wild Card)
Joshua was unpredictable.
Batman had spent years refining his skills, learning how to anticipate enemies, allies, and even chaotic metahumans.
But Joshua? Joshua broke the rules.
There was no clear pattern to his actions. One moment, he was methodical and strategic, the next, he was a whirlwind of chaos.
And that made him both valuable and dangerous.
Tonight's mission was a test.
Batman had deliberately chosen a high-risk operation—a Black Mask weapons shipment—because he needed to see exactly what Joshua was capable of when working as a part of a team.
Was he reckless?
Could he follow orders?
Could he be controlled?
That last question was the most important.
Because if Joshua couldn't be controlled, if he refused to listen—
Then Batman would have to make a decision.
---
(Joshua's POV – The Rush of Battle)
Joshua crouched on the rooftop, staring down at the warehouse below.
His heartbeat thumped in his chest, adrenaline already pumping.
This was different.
Beating up street thugs was one thing. But these guys? They weren't just criminals.
Mercenaries. Gunrunners. Black Mask's enforcers.
Real threats.
He smirked, rolling his shoulders. This is what I've been waiting for.
Batman's voice came through his earpiece.
"Twelve hostiles. Armed. They have military-grade weapons. No unnecessary risks."
Joshua sighed. "Yeah, yeah. I get it."
Batman continued. "We move quietly. You take the west entrance, I take the east. Engage only if necessary."
Joshua tilted his head. "Yeah, about that…"
He stood up, stretching his arms.
Batman's voice sharpened. "Joshua, what are you doing?"
Joshua grinned. "Making an entrance."
And then, his body exploded with blue light.
---
Joshua Transforms – Enter V-Mon
His body shrunk slightly, but his muscles became denser.
Blue scales covered his skin.
His claws sharpened.
And as the transformation completed, Joshua—now V-Mon—grinned wide.
Time for some fun.
Without hesitation, he leaped from the rooftop—
CRASH!
Joshua slammed into the ground, sending a shockwave through the dirt and shaking the nearby crates.
The impact alone sent two nearby guards flying.
The rest of the mercenaries spun around in shock.
"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!"
Joshua grinned.
"Hi there!"
---
The Battle Begins
A guard raised his rifle—
Too slow.
Joshua dashed forward, grabbed the gun's barrel, and crushed it in his claws.
The man's eyes widened in horror. "What—?!"
Joshua didn't let him finish. A single punch sent him flying into a stack of crates.
CRACK!
Two more mercenaries opened fire—
Joshua zigzagged between the bullets, moving too fast for their aim to follow.
Then he jumped, flipping mid-air, and delivered a brutal axe kick.
BAM!
One of them collapsed instantly.
The last guy scrambled backward, reaching for his radio—
Joshua lunged forward, wrapped his tail around the guy's legs, and yanked.
The mercenary crashed onto his back.
Joshua grinned. "Nighty-night."
A swift chop, and he was out cold.
---
The Warehouse Erupts
The gunfire alerted the rest of the mercenaries inside.
Doors burst open. Floodlights flickered on.
More enemies poured in.
Joshua cracked his knuckles. "Finally, some real action."
He took a deep breath, his blue aura flaring around him.
Then—
He attacked.
Joshua became a blur of motion.
A mercenary swung a crowbar—
Joshua ducked, grabbed his wrist, and flipped him over.
Two more rushed in—
Joshua spun, tail-smacking one while delivering a brutal backhand to the other.
A guy with a knife lunged at him—
Joshua caught the blade between his claws, wrenched it away, and shattered it with a squeeze.
The mercenaries panicked.
This wasn't normal.
This wasn't human.
This was a monster.
---
Batman Arrives
Suddenly—
A black shape descended from above.
Batman crashed into the battlefield like a shadow.
In one swift motion, he took down three enemies in rapid succession.
Elbow to the throat. Chop to the knee. Boot to the head.
They collapsed instantly.
Joshua whistled. "Not bad."
Batman turned to him, eyes cold. "I told you to stay quiet."
Joshua smirked. "I made an executive decision."
Batman's glare hardened.
But before he could say anything—
A radio crackled to life.
A low, distorted voice spoke.
"Whoever you are… I know you're listening."
Joshua raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And who might you be?"
A pause.
Then—
"Black Mask."
Joshua's smirk widened. "Oh. Well, that's exciting."
Batman's expression darkened.
Black Mask continued. "You've made a mistake coming here, boy. And now? You're on my list."
Joshua chuckled. "Good. I was getting bored."
Batman cut the radio connection.
He turned to Joshua, voice dangerously calm.
"We're going home."
Joshua grinned. "Fine, fine. But next time? I'm bringing out the big guns."
Batman said nothing.
As the sirens blared in the distance, Joshua and Batman disappeared into the night.
One mission down.
And now?
Black Mask was coming.
And Joshua couldn't wait.

End of Chapter.
Chapter 29: Shadows and Monsters
(Commissioner Gordon's POV – The Call That Changed Everything)
James Gordon had spent decades on the force. He had seen things that would break lesser men—Joker's massacres, Two-Face's betrayals, the Penguin's bloody rise to power. But no matter how insane Gotham became, no matter how much blood was spilled on its streets, Gordon always relied on one truth:
Batman was human.
A man. A mortal.
But tonight… tonight, that belief was shaken to its core.
---
The Call That Shouldn't Have Happened
The night shift at GCPD was never quiet, but tonight was particularly tense. The past week had been a war zone in Gotham's underworld.
Someone—or something—was tearing through mid-tier gang operations, leaving criminals battered, unconscious, and terrified out of their minds.
At first, Gordon assumed it was Batman. But when the reports started coming in?
"Sir, our officers found claw marks on the scene."
"Sir, the security footage is... disturbing. The thing moves like an animal but fights like a trained soldier."
"Sir, we have witnesses saying it breathes fire."
That last one? He almost laughed.
Until the phone rang.
Gordon picked up. "Commissioner Gordon."
A panicked voice came through the line, frantic, shaking.
"H-holy sh*t! Commissioner! You gotta help me! You gotta—"
Gordon narrowed his eyes. "Who is this?"
"L-Lou! I—I work for Black Mask! I—"
A gang member calling the police? That was rare. Criminals in Gotham would rather rot in the sewers than dial 9-1-1.
Something had scared him more than the police.
"Why are you calling me?" Gordon asked.
Lou coughed violently, his voice barely above a whisper. "B-because I don't know what else to do! The Bat—he's not working alone anymore. He's got a new sidekick—b-but it's not human, man! IT'S NOT HUMAN!"
Gordon gripped the phone tighter. "Slow down. Tell me exactly what happened."
---
A Monster in the Dark
Lou's voice was shaky, broken.
"We were just movin' product, Commissioner! Just another normal night—we weren't even doin' nothin' crazy! And then… and then it came."
"It?"
"That THING! We thought it was a dog at first—big, blue, and fast. Then it SMILED at us, man! It knew what it was doin'! It took out Ricky first—broke his arm like a twig! Frankie tried to run, but it tackled him—threw him into a f*ckin' dumpster like he was nothin'!"
Gordon's grip tightened. Blue? What the hell was he talking about?
"Then we saw its eyes glow."
Lou's breathing was ragged. "They weren't normal, man. They were… ALIVE. Like a predator starin' down its meal. And then—it started glowing. Its fists, its f*ckin' body—it turned red, and the next thing I know, Ricky was screamin'! His clothes were burned—BURNED, COMMISSIONER!"
Fire.
Gordon's stomach twisted. Batman didn't use fire. Batman didn't breathe fire.
"And then the Bat showed up."
Gordon snapped back. "Batman was there?"
"Yeah, but he didn't stop it! He just watched! Like he was testin' it—like it was a f*ckin' experiment!"
Gordon's breath slowed. That didn't sound right. Batman wasn't reckless. He wasn't the type to let a monster off its leash.
But what if this wasn't a leash? What if this was a partner?
"Did Batman say anything?"
Lou hesitated. "…Yeah. He called it by name."
Gordon leaned in. "What name?"
"…V-Mon."
Silence.
Cold, unsettling silence.
---
The Aftermath
By the time officers traced Lou's call, they found him huddled in an alleyway, shaking, mumbling to himself. His hands were burned, but not severely. More like a controlled burn.
Whoever—or whatever—this "V-Mon" was, it had held back.
Gordon examined the evidence.
Security footage was corrupted.
The few images left showed a blurry blue creature, about the size of a child, with glowing red fists.
Witnesses refused to talk. Some even fled Gotham overnight.
But the most concerning part?
Batman didn't deny it.
---
A Conversation With the Bat
Later that night, Gordon met Batman on the rooftop.
"You have a new partner."
Batman didn't flinch. Didn't deny it. Just gave him that damn unreadable look.
"…Yes."
Gordon exhaled sharply. "You trained it?"
"No."
That caught Gordon off guard. "Then what the hell is it?"
Batman was silent for a long time. Then, finally:
"A survivor."
That was not the answer Gordon expected.
"And you trust it?"
Batman's jaw tightened. "…I'm watching him."
Gordon pinched the bridge of his nose. "This city doesn't need another monster."
Batman's voice was low, firm. "He's not a monster, Jim."
Gordon wasn't so sure.
Because for the first time in years, Batman wasn't the scariest thing in Gotham.
And that terrified him.
