Detective Love

Elena walked up the few steps into the building. She was so happy to be finally back at work. She walked inside and Amanda rushed to greet her.

"Hey bestie! Amanda exclaimed happily.

"Hi! She replied back and they gave each other a high five.

"How are you doing? She asked.

"I'm fine thank you.

"Where have you been? It's been a long while.

Elena sighed.

"What's wrong? Amanda asked with an expression of concern.

"Well, I've been home. Found a new guy who•••••••

"You found a new guy!

"Yeah.

"Tell me about him.

"Wait, you haven't even heard my story yet. The guy saved me.

"Saved you? How?

"I almost got raped.

"Got raped? She asked in surprise. How did it happen?

"Well, it was kind of my own mistake.

"How?

"I got drunk in a bar.

"How? Why did you get drunk in bar? The last time I checked, you weren't depressed.

"Yeah it wasn't depression.

"So, what was it?

"I wanted to have fun since it's been long I went out. So I went to a bar.

"Ok.

"Then when I got to the bar, I drank and drank until I passed out.

"You passed out?

"Yeah. That was when the guy came and saved me.

"Oh you poor thing. She said as she hugged her. I'm so sorry I couldn't give you a call. Work has been so tiring. She said while rolling her eyes.

"It's okay. I understand.

"So what about the guy? She said with a teasing look.

"Why are you looking at me like that?

"C'mon you know what I mean.

"We're just friends. No strings attached.

"But that's how love begins.

"C'mon I'm not ready for love now.

"You'll be when the feeling comes.

"Oh Amanda, enough with your teasings. I have work to do.

"Keep giving excuses to change the topic. I know you're in love already.

"Amanda. She called her slowly closing her eyes.

"What? She said smiling and still with her teasing look. Alright, I'll let you be for now but that doesn't mean I'm convinced that you are not in love with him. She said as she left.

"Oh Amanda. She thought. Such a disturbing lady. She thought as she smiled to herself.

At Ray's organization, Ray is in his office when a knock came on the door.

"Come in. He said.

The door opened and Betty walked in. She looked at him seductively before walking to a chair to take a seat.

"Uh, Betty I didn't ask you to sit. He said with a frown.

"Do I have to ask for permission for a sit when I'm with my baby? She asked.

Ray was stunned. He wasn't sure he was talking to Betty.

"Betty, are you okay?

"No.

"Why?

"Because someone refuses to approach me despite my advances and signals.

"And who if I may ask is that person?

"You.

Ray was taken aback. How could his own employee be flirting with him in his own office?

She stood up from her seat and went to his chair. Then she turned the chair to her direction to meet his astonished face.

"Don't be surprised. She said. I'm not here for you. I'm here for Nancy.

"What do you mean?

"I believe that you are not aware that your friend and Nancy are a thing.

"For your information, I'm aware.

Betty looked at him in surprise for a few seconds. "How could he be aware? She thought. He wasn't there when she told us.

"How come you knew? 

"I was told by my own friend himself.

These words were enough for Betty to walk out of Ray's office in shame. She looked at Ray in disgust before moving her feet towards the door and walking out in anger.

She walked back to her office pained by Ray's words. When she was in the privacy of her office, she let out a very loud scream.

"How did he know? She said. "How is he aware?

Then her mind went back to Ray's words"I was told by my own friend himself ". She banged on her table realizing that her plan had failed.

"I'll get you Nancy. She said. "And as for Ray, he will be mine.

Elena sighed as she began to pack up from work. Just as she was about to lock her office door, her phone rang. She checked the caller ID. It was Darwin. She smiled as she answered the call.

"Hello. Came Darwin's voice from the other end.

"Hi. She said smiling.

"How are you doing?

"I'm good, and you.

"Doing very well, thank you. Um, hey are you free today?

"Yeah.

"I was thinking maybe you could come to dinner at my house.

"Okay. No problem.

"Alright, I'll be expecting you then.

"Okay.

Elena took the next taxi and soon she arrived at the front of Darwin's door. She pressed the doorbell. The door opened and revealed Darwin smiling.

"Hey. He said smiling.

"Hi. She returned the smile.

"Please come in. He gestured as he opened the door wider.

"Thank you.

He took her around the house until they finally came to his dining. He pulled the chair backwards and gestured for her to sit. She smiled at him and sat on the chair. Then he went through the other side and sat on his chair.

"You're welcome to my dining. He said and she laughed.

"Thank you. She replied smiling.

"Enjoy your meal.

"I most certainly will.

They began to eat. In the middle of eating, they began to discuss things about their lives, career and childhood memories. At the end of their dinner , Elena found herself holding Darwin's hand. 

They came came out of the apartment and walked down the road. Elena stood to face him.

"Thank you for this outstanding meal. She said.

"You're welcome. You can come for more of it anytime. He replied and she laughed.

By then, he had already flagged down a taxi for her. The taxi stopped and he opened the door for her. She went in and turned her face to him.

"Good night. She said.

"Sweet dreams. He replied.

The taxi left and as she was heading back to her apartment, she found herself thinking about him.

"Maybe this is how love begins. She thought.
