Chapter 80: Chapter 80
The battle had ended, but the weight of what they had witnessed and endured was far from over. As the dust settled and the echoes of the battle faded, the participants stood amidst the wreckage, their bodies battered and bruised, but their spirits indomitable. Yet, the victory felt hollow.
The energy left by Metal Etemon's death was overwhelming. Each of the Digimons received a piece of chrome digizoid, a rare and powerful material that only a Mega-level Digimon could leave behind. The reward was vast—each piece held immense value, but Naruto's team took only small amounts, deliberately holding back. They had no desire to see their Digimons evolve further, not when the stakes had already been so high.
Apemon, however, had absorbed the massive amounts of fighting experience gained from battling a foe that should have been impossible to defeat. It was a moment that pushed Apemon beyond its limits. With Naruto's assistance, a fusion of their power had unlocked Apemon's Ultimate Evolution, transforming it into Gokuwmon, a form far beyond its previous capabilities.
Similarly, Exermon had evolved into Tempomon, gaining new strength after the battle's toll. Bulkmon's evolution led to the emergence of Boutmon, a form more streamlined and deadly. Hanzomon also gained an impressive boost, reaching its Raidenmon: Metal Gear form, a mighty evolution that would serve him well in future confrontations.
Groundramon, on the other hand, had been held back by Rory. She had seen its potential to evolve into one of the Royal Knights and had her own plans in mind—one of those plans being a battle with Examon, a Royal Knight she believed could push Groundramon to the next level. She knew the battle was coming, but not yet.
Despite these remarkable evolutions, the true cost of the battle was not lost on them. The world was a much darker place than they had imagined, and their confrontation had revealed the terrifying reality of the Digital World. Death had lurked close at their heels, and the horrors they had witnessed would never be forgotten.
Naruto's body was on the brink of collapse. He had overused his powers, pushed beyond the limits of what any human could endure, and now, he was paying the price. The moment he stumbled, he lost control of the immense energy that coursed through him, unable to hold it back any longer. His body trembled, exhaustion overtaking him.
The battlefield seemed distant, his senses swimming in and out as the weight of his actions crushed him. Rika—who had seen it all unfold—rushed to him. Her arms wrapped around him, her face buried in his chest, and she cried like Naruto had never seen before. Her tears soaked his clothes as she clung to him, and the sound of her sobs hit him like a physical blow.
It was a cry born of fear, of love, and of the unimaginable pain of seeing the one she cared for the most in danger. It struck Naruto deeply, the one person who had always been his pillar of strength now broken before him.
Rika's voice was muffled by his chest, but Naruto could hear every word.
"I can't lose you… I can't!" she cried, the desperation in her tone raw and unfiltered.
Naruto's heart ached at the sound of her voice, the weight of her pain too much to bear. He looked down at her, his mind swirling with thoughts of all the risks he had taken to protect them, all the battles they had fought together, and how this moment—the consequences of that reckless courage—had led them here. To this point where everything felt like it was slipping through his fingers.
Without a word, he leaned down and kissed her—a kiss full of warmth, longing, and promises. The words came out almost as a whisper, barely audible.
"I'm sorry… I'll never put you through this again," Naruto promised, his voice heavy with regret.
But in his heart, he knew. He knew this promise was a lie.
It was not just his choice. His life had never been about finding peace, about staying safe. Naruto Uzumaki was a man destined for battle, destined for struggles that would stretch across time and worlds. No matter how hard he tried, he would always find himself at the center of chaos, with the weight of the world pressing down on him.
For a brief moment, he allowed himself to imagine a life free from battle, a life where Rika and his friends could live in peace. But deep down, he knew that life was not meant for him. He had already crossed that line, and there was no turning back. His fate was sealed, and he had no choice but to walk it.
The world would need him again.
And when it did, Naruto would answer, no matter the cost.
But for now, he held Rika tight, his heart aching, knowing that the path ahead would be filled with more battles, more loss, and more pain. The thought of losing her—of losing anyone—was unbearable, but it was a part of his fate he had already accepted.
As the sun began to set on the battlefield, the group remained there, still reeling from the horrors they had witnessed, but resolute in the knowledge that the journey ahead would be even harder. And as long as they stood together, they would face it. Together.
"Man, I don't even know how I am supposed to share this with the boss. You are an anomaly that no one seemed to have taken into account. What are you? Are you an experiment by Drasil, a reincarnation of a Digimon?" Toad's voice was thick with confusion, disbelief still evident in his tone. He stepped forward, his eyes locked on Naruto with an intensity that bordered on obsession. "There's no way you could use those skills while being a human being."
His words immediately captured the attention of the group, especially Henry and Takato, who were watching Naruto carefully. They had seen Naruto's strength grow and evolve since the very beginning. They had believed in him, trusted him even, but the revelation of his abilities had gone beyond anything they could have imagined. No human could wield such power so effortlessly. It was as though Naruto didn't even notice the gap between himself and others—it was all just normal to him.
As the realization hit them, a heavy silence fell over the group.
Henry and Takato exchanged looks, their minds swirling with questions, doubts, and a deep, gnawing sense of unease. They had started this journey together, as best friends, as a team. But Naruto's power had quickly outstripped theirs, leaving them behind. How could they possibly close that gap? Was it even possible for them to be of any use in the future when their strength seemed so insignificant compared to Naruto's?
The thought of being mere spectators in Naruto's world—reduced to watching their friend fight alone—felt wrong. It felt hopeless. Their feelings were compounded by the weight of being forced to question their own worth. Was there a point to even participating? Were they just holding Naruto back? Was he… just babysitting them?
Their confidence had been shaken. The gap between them and Naruto had widened to a point where the idea of catching up felt almost impossible.
Rika, standing close to Naruto, could sense the same emotions running through the group. But for her, the overwhelming feeling wasn't one of powerlessness; it was of concern. She knew Naruto well enough to see the reckless determination that drove him, the selflessness that often pushed him to the point of danger.
He wasn't just fighting for himself. He was always fighting for others, for the world. And in doing so, he was often putting his own life at risk, something that she could not stand to see.
She could feel his need for someone to keep him grounded, to pull him back when he got too close to the edge. She had to be there for him, to stop him from making the same reckless decisions that had led to near-death experiences time and time again.
"I'm not leaving you," she whispered softly to him, her hand lightly resting on his arm. "I'll always be here. But you need to be careful. For me… for everyone."
Naruto met her gaze, his heart heavy with guilt and a deep longing to protect those he loved. Her words, though laced with concern, were a reminder of the danger that came with his powers. He knew she was right, but at the same time, he couldn't promise her he would stop fighting the way he did. That was simply who he was.
Meanwhile, Rory was on the other side of the spectrum. While everyone else grappled with doubts and uncertainty, Rory was practically buzzing with excitement. She hadn't seen such raw power in a long time. The way Naruto had dominated the battlefield—destroying limits—it was everything she could dream of in a lord.
Her previous frustrations over her own limitations as a Digimon tamer seemed to pale in comparison to the spectacle of Naruto's potential. She had faced the strongest of Mega-level Digimons, and although she hadn't been able to defeat them, seeing Naruto's raw power ignited a burning desire within her. It made her feel… alive.
Her gaze, full of affection and admiration, was locked onto Naruto as she whispered to herself, "Beloved… beloved..." She bit her lip in excitement, clearly enjoying the sight of him despite the destruction around them.
Rory had a feeling that this battle—this adventure—was just the beginning. And whatever it took, she was ready to dive deeper into the Bio-Matrix Challenge, knowing that it was her next step toward greater power.
For Mai, the excitement was palpable, too. She had seen the potential in Naruto long before others did, and now her belief was confirmed. The realization that she was serving someone so powerful was both humbling and thrilling.
Yurine and Mio shared similar sentiments, both impressed by Naruto's actions, but also curious about the mystery behind his abilities. They had seen the way he operated—how he fought, how he led. His powers didn't just define him; they were a part of him. Yet, the question remained: where did they come from? What was the true source of the powers that seemed to transcend even the world's most powerful Digimons?
But for all of them, it didn't matter much. They didn't need answers to stay by Naruto's side. Whether or not they knew the truth, their loyalty was unwavering.
Naruto's response to Toad was clear and firm, not out of malice but out of necessity. He had no obligation to explain the full extent of his abilities to an outsider like Toad, especially one connected to a group that didn't fully align with his ideals. While he understood the curiosity, Naruto wasn't about to let it compromise the safety of those closest to him.
"I am not a Digimon and I have no connection to Drasil. This is just my ability, and I have no reason to share its inner workings with you," he said, standing firm.
Toad, taken aback for a moment, raised his hands in mock surrender. "Whoa there, no need to look at me like that. I was just curious."
Naruto let out a quiet breath, realizing that Toad hadn't meant to overstep. "Apologies, I didn't mean to scare you. Honestly, I am grateful for your help. You've certainly made me reconsider your group," he said, his tone softening. Looking at Toad, he saw something different in him—a sense of belief, even if it was flawed, in his cause. Toad's understanding of fighting for peace resonated with Naruto, though they would never agree on everything.
"You're welcome, and I'm happy that I was able to show the good points of the Brotherhood," Toad replied with a grin, his voice warmer now. "How about joining us?"
Naruto's response was measured and thoughtful. "I have to refuse. There are things that we can't agree on. You should try not to involve innocent people in your plans and reconsider your stance. Not all Metal Digimons are evil, you know that, but your rage blinds you to that truth. You need to move on, or your hatred will weaken humanity. That is my message for your leader." Naruto had seen the toll that hatred had taken, especially with Magneto's past, and how it had shaped the world they now lived in. It was because of that bitterness that humanity had survived the machine invasion, but it was also why humanity was now at risk of destruction. The cycle needed to end.
Toad, nodding thoughtfully, could see where Naruto was coming from, but he also knew how hard it would be for Magneto to let go of that rage. Still, he respected Naruto's message. "I'll convey your message, and you can always visit us. We don't want you to die either. You're the hope of humanity, Naruto. We see hope for this accursed world from your talents. Keep fighting, young warrior. Know that we will always back you to the last man."
Toad handed Naruto a silver card—a small token of his respect and faith in Naruto's cause. Before Naruto could respond, Toad quickly disappeared, leaving only the card in his hand and a sense of quiet resolve in his chest.
The words "Hope of Humanity" echoed in Naruto's mind. They reminded him of Jiraiya, who had once called him that during his younger years. He had worn that title proudly back then, but now it carried a weight—a burden that grew heavier the more he realized how much was at stake.
Turning to his team, Naruto took a deep breath. "I'll share my secret with you later. Right now isn't the time," he said, his voice more serious as he looked at his friends.
Just as he said those words, the ground trembled, and a booming voice reached their ears. Blastmon, a massive, Mega Digimon, had finally arrived on the scene.
Standing at an imposing 900 meters tall, Blastmon resembled a colossal mountain of crystal, each step shaking the very earth beneath their feet. The massive creature's voice echoed across the battlefield, yet it was strangely gentle despite its overwhelming power.
"Young ones, are you safe? I am sorry it took me so long to notice this situation."
Everyone was stunned for a moment, realizing just how out of place they were in comparison to Blastmon. This was a being that was nearly impossible to harm in the digital world, and his very presence demanded respect.
Mio, ever the calm one, spoke up first. "Lord Blastmon, did Ebemon attack you?"
Despite his size and overwhelming strength, Blastmon seemed almost bashful at the mention of Ebemon and rubbed his head, like a child who had been caught dozing off. "Sorry to disappoint, but I was asleep. I am usually asleep. It's part of my nature."
The response made perfect sense given Blastmon's form. A Digimon of such scale and mass likely required immense amounts of rest. It was hard for Naruto and the others to be angry at the creature when they understood how he operated.
"No problem. Can you please send us back to Dawn City?" Mio asked, a slight smile on her face as she bowed respectfully.
Blastmon, ever the gentleman despite his immense size, nodded and gently opened a spatial gate beneath them. "Of course. That is the least I can do."
The team stepped onto the gate, their minds still buzzing with the events that had just transpired, especially with the new Brotherhood alliance and Naruto's mysterious abilities. As they were about to step into the gate, Naruto glanced over his shoulder at the towering figure of Blastmon. He knew this was just another chapter in their journey. The world was changing, and so was he.
For now, though, the team needed to get back to Dawn City. They had a lot of thinking and planning to do, but Naruto's resolve was clear. Whatever came next, they would face it together.
