Chapter 256: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Premieres! (18)
The concept of Ripple breathing introduced in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure took everyone in the Southern Duke's estate by surprise.
As a seasoned swordsman, the Southern Duke, much like General Wilhelm, had some knowledge in this area, which made the concept of Ripple breathing all the more astonishing to him.
Of course, beyond his initial shock, he instinctively turned to look at Arcueid beside him, hoping to hear the True Ancestor's thoughts on such a remarkable ability.
Sensing the Duke's gaze, Arcueid pondered for a moment before speaking slowly:
"This kind of ability does have a historical precedent."
"It actually existed?"
The Southern Duke was slightly taken aback that the True Ancestor would say such a thing, but Arcueid merely responded calmly:
"The human body possesses astonishing potential. Mages and swordsmen are merely its final expressions. In truth, even without external aid, humans are capable of generating holy light on their own."
"This..."
The Duke hadn't expected the True Ancestor to introduce such a shocking concept. But before he could ask further, Arcueid had already lost interest in the conversation, shifting her focus back to the movie.
Realizing that she had no intention of delving into such esoteric matters, the Southern Duke chose not to press the issue. Instead, he turned his gaze toward the movie screen, his mind sinking into deep thought.
...
The JoJo's Bizarre Adventure movie continued.
After mastering the Ripple breathing technique, Jonathan, along with Zeppeli and Speedwagon, made their way to Wind Knight's Lot, a secluded mountain village.
On their journey, they encountered a young boy attempting to steal a bag.
The three of them immediately gave chase, effortlessly using Ripple energy to subdue him.
However, it was only then that they realized the boy had been under some form of control. They had unknowingly stepped into a graveyard teeming with vampiric zombies.
At the same time, under the glow of the moon, Dio's figure appeared atop the mountain. Arrogant and confident, he gazed down at the intruders with disdain.
As the endless horde of vampiric zombies closed in, Jonathan and Zeppeli wasted no time activating their Ripple breathing to break through. Zeppeli, in particular, displayed an intense fighting spirit upon seeing Dio for the first time.
Yet, Dio remained unfazed, his voice laced with cold contempt:
"Don't get ahead of yourself, you insignificant insect. I stand at the pinnacle of all living creatures—a new species that will shape the future. How could I possibly exist on the same level as mere humans?"
"Your very presence reeks of overwhelming evil… Have you truly become a tyrant?"
"Once I heal my wound, the damage JoJo inflicted on me will be nothing. Come now, sorcerer! Offer your life to cleanse and cauterize my injury!"
"Just how many people have you drained to heal yourself?"
"Do you keep track of how many loaves of bread you've eaten in your life?"
"..."
Faced with Dio's sheer malevolence, Zeppeli could no longer contain his fury. With a roar, he charged up the mountain, his voice echoing through the night:
"Dio, I'm going to beat you until you cry for your mommy and daddy!"
"Golden Ripple Overdrive!"
As Zeppeli's words fell, his fist struck Dio's hand with incredible force, unleashing a dazzling burst of golden Ripple energy.
However, just as Jonathan and Speedwagon's faces lit up with hope, Dio sneered coldly. His arm shifted in an instant, encased in an eerie layer of ice.
"Too weak! Far too weak!"
"Frozen?!"
Dio smirked as he observed Zeppeli's shocked expression.
"You must be Zeppeli. Your energy seems to rely on the flow of blood. So, if I freeze your veins, you won't be able to generate any energy at all! You know I can control my own body, right? I vaporized the moisture in my arm at the point of impact. The evaporation process absorbs heat, freezing my arm in an instant. And now—"
With a casual movement, Dio shattered Zeppeli's frozen arm, then launched a devastating punch straight at him.
"I'll smash your skull along with your arm, just like shattering a fragile vase!"
Dio's fist shot forward, but Jonathan intercepted it with his own arm. The young Joestar, holding the boy who had attempted to steal from them earlier, stood firm and shouted:
"Dio! I will be the one to shatter your ambitions!"
"Hah! JoJo, you've gotten strong enough to block my punch, I'll admit that. But if I were you, I wouldn't keep my hand so close to mine!"
With that, Dio let out a chilling roar, and in unison, both Jonathan and Zeppeli cried out in defiance.
"WRYYYYYY!!!———"
In an instant, both of them were nearly frozen solid. Only through sheer will and desperation did they manage to escape from Dio's reach, staggering away from the brink of death.
"He's too powerful! If we can't infuse Ripple energy, then there's no way to defeat him!" Jonathan gasped in despair.
Standing atop the mountain, Dio simply let out a cruel laugh.
"Ripple? Breathing techniques? If you enjoy blowing air so much, allow me to play you a requiem!"
Turning his gaze toward the darkness, he raised his hand and commanded:
"Tarkus! Black Knight Bruford! I no longer need to dirty my hands. Come forth, and let these fools hear the wailing dirge of their demise!"
Dio turned away coldly, leaving the battlefield in the hands of the two towering figures who emerged from the mountain crevices.
"Finish up here. The task of sweeping away these insects is yours."
With that, Dio departed, vanishing into the darkness.
...
Back in the theater, the audience was utterly stunned by the shocking turn of events.
No one had expected Dio to be so overwhelmingly powerful—able to take on both Jonathan and Zeppeli simultaneously without suffering a scratch. In contrast, Zeppeli was grievously wounded, and Jonathan had also taken significant damage.
"Dio is this strong?! How can they possibly defeat him?"
"There's no hope. The Ripple breathing technique is completely ineffective. There's no power left that can stop him!"
"And he sees ordinary humans as nothing more than bread… He's a complete monster."
"This is terrifying… He's beyond anything a human could ever hope to fight!"
"How did things come to this…?"
"..."
The tension in the theater was palpable.
No one had expected that after their reunion, Dio would have grown so overwhelmingly powerful. Not even Jonathan, armed with Ripple energy, nor the formidable Zeppeli stood a chance against him.
With things looking so grim, the audience could only watch anxiously, hoping that Jonathan and Zeppeli would somehow survive against the two fearsome vampire warriors.
...
Imperial Mage Academy.
The mages, watching the events unfold on screen, were just as stunned as the rest of the audience, breaking into heated discussions.
"Dio can manipulate his body with such precision, even vaporizing moisture to create a freezing effect… He's practically a mage."
"Yeah, with a mind like his, if he had any magical talent, he'd at least be a Grand Mage."
"This is absurd. I never even considered using water elements like that."
"..."
Although their discussion had veered slightly off course, the mages were undeniably shaken by the sheer brilliance and terrifying nature of Dio's abilities.
