Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space

Chapter 376: 376. Have hope

Not only did he have the same feeling, but even the Lord County Magistrate whom he was supporting and the other shocked guards felt it too.

They walked faster and faster, until the Lord County Magistrate no longer needed his support and swiftly passed by each room with excitement in his eyes.

They finally stopped at the kitchen, the place where the noise had led them.

"Quick, open it up and have a look," Liu Hui said excitedly, pointing to a bulging cloth bag.

The guards were also impatient, just waiting for the command from the Lord. Without bothering to untie the rope, they sliced it with a sharp tool, revealing a bag of coarse rice before them.

"Lord, is it really food?" The excited voices of the guards couldn't be suppressed, as they gazed at the food with shining eyes.

"Keep going..." Liu Hui trembled as he spoke, his eyes becoming ever brighter.

One bag after another of food was opened, revealing not only coarse rice and wheat flour, but also millet, black beans, yellow soybeans, and most impressive of all, bags of white rice and white flour.

Seeing these, everyone's eyes turned red.

"Lord, the woodshed is piled with lots of medicine," someone couldn't resist rushing into the woodshed to take a look, his body seemingly revitalized, his face gaining a flush of excitement.

This was what excited them most, for medicine was more crucial than food in their current situation.

"Lord, we're saved." Even the usually stable Cao Zhi could not contain his joy upon seeing the herbs.

"There's a note on it too," a guard said, picking up a slip of paper from a pile of oil-paper packages.

Lord Liu read it and was overjoyed; the oil-paper wrapped medicine aimed at treating the plague. Though unsure if it was entirely suitable, their symptoms matched those described in the note. Even if it's not entirely fitting, it's worth trying; better take a long shot than face certain death.

"How's Doctor Ma's condition?" Liu Hui suddenly thought of the physician at the residence.

"Not very good," Cao Zhi shook his head.

Although Doctor Ma was the last to get infected, his age and physique couldn't quite match theirs, and since yesterday he hadn't been able to get out of bed, the medicine was forced down him.

Unfortunately, there was too little medicine in the residence, merely enough to keep them hanging on. Healing completely was impossible.

And those with power and money wouldn't give this a thought. Every person is watching out for themselves now; who would bring forth lifesaving items, not even under threats or coercion?

"Take a pack for Doctor Ma to examine," Liu Hui said.

"Yes," Cao Zhi shared the same thought and immediately signaled the person next to him to take a package to Doctor Ma.

Excitement continued to mount when they discovered salt and sugar; their emotions couldn't be put into words.

Every room was thoroughly searched, all containing lifesaving items.

Liu Hui held a bottle of medicine in his hands, overwhelmed with excitement.

It's a pity they couldn't fathom who had sent these supplies over.

But it's definitely a capable benefactor, for such quantities to be sent into the county office unnoticed. If not for the notes, he would have thought the heavens had smiled and sent down a miracle.

Aside from gratitude, Lord Liu felt only more gratitude. Together with Cao Zhi and others, he knelt once in the four directions.

"Though moved by an unknown hero, rest assured, I Liu Hui swear here that as long as I live, I will do everything in my power to ensure more common folk survive." After speaking, he deeply knelt again, and those behind him hurriedly followed suit.

Just as they stood up, they saw the guard who went to find Doctor Ma returning excitedly.

"Lord, Doctor Ma says it's effective."

"That's great, quickly prepare the medicine, remember to maintain normal dosage, and ensure everyone in the residence drinks it promptly."

"Yes," the mobile individuals hurried to brew the medicine with excitement.

From thinking death was certain to a twist of fate, everyone's eyes filled with hope in that moment.

"Is there anyone in the residence who understands medicine?"

"Replying to the Lord, Wang Kui, Zhao San know a bit, they were responsible for gathering herbs before," Cao Zhi replied.

"What's their condition?"

"They're feverish and haven't woken," Cao Zhi said, his brief joy fading into sadness, as fewer than half of his men could now stand and think clearly.

Lord Liu said nothing, instead examining the cloth package in his hands, pulling out several bottles.

"Take this. The usage is listed on the note. Give it first to those with unyielding fevers, making sure to leave at least an hour between the herbs and these pills."

"Lord," Cao Zhi exclaimed, "this is life-saving medicine, there's not much, you should keep it for yourself."

"Precisely because it saves lives, it should be used where needed. Don't worry, I have more here. Hurry and go," Liu Hui insisted.

"Yes," moved, Cao Zhi quickly departed.

Some were already in poor condition since yesterday, hopefully, they'll hold on!

Liu Hui lingered through several rooms, feeling increasingly vigorous, his eyes shining brighter, even the high fever subsiding as though instantly.

Especially upon reaching the herb-laden room, he began looking forward to the future.

As their condition improved, those around could gather herbs, more lives would be saved as a result.

They were deeply grateful to the anonymous benefactor.

Meanwhile, Huahua, the benefactor thought of constantly by others, darted swiftly through the streets while it was still dark.

Following his spiritual power, he continually collected from the ruins.

Be it broken pots or rusted farm tools, Huahua wouldn't let any metal escape notice.

In many places, he saw signs of previous searches, not yielding as much as imagined, but it was better than nothing, enough to gather some materials.

Seeing the sky begin to lighten, Huahua felt a bit of regret, then vanished into a courtyard left with only four walls and no roof.

Having been busy all night, now was the time to rest; returning to his space, Huahua filled his belly, refreshed himself, and threw himself onto the bed.

Taking another night to collect, irrespective of how much was gathered, Huahua planned to leave.

As sleep began to take hold, Huahua thought of the weapon store and the raw stone shops. He wondered if their contents remained, resolved to check them in the evening.

The sleep was truly comfortable, lasting a whole day, waking to find night had fallen outside.

After filling his stomach and gearing himself up, Huahua exited his space once more.

Then came the search, which posed no difficulty for Huahua. With spiritual power in full flow, as long as it wasn't buried deep underground, all lay in clear view.

Unknowingly, time passed, bringing Huahua to the long-anticipated forge.

Though recognizing it took some effort, he finally found it.

Thankfully, it appeared untouched; the dilapidated house showed no signs of excavation, the mud was firmly settled.

He hoped the shop's contents were yet to be taken; otherwise, Huahua would truly be disappointed.

If the spiritual power could penetrate the ground surface, it would spare much effort.
