[POV Change]
"Hmm… It's already 11 o'clock…"
It was a weekend morning. Miyoung woke up late, checked the time, and slowly got out of bed.
Normally, she was up by 6 AM. But since it was the weekend, she allowed herself to sleep in.
Even so, she had set her phone volume higher than usual. That way, she could respond quickly if work called. But anyone who only knew her professional self would be surprised by her weekend look.
"For lunch… I'll just order something."
Still groggy, she freshened up, walked into the living room, ordered food, and plopped onto the couch to watch TV.
Dressed in pajamas, with messy hair, she moved as little as possible. This was her version of true relaxation.
At work, she was a sharp and capable team leader known for driving results. But at home—especially on weekends—she became someone who avoided doing anything unnecessary.
After finishing her delivery meal and lounging around, her phone rang. It was the security guard.
'Don't tell me this is about a date…'
She mentally reviewed the weekend work schedule. Since it was during his work hours, she answered the call.
– Hello, Team Leader Kim Miyoung.
"Hello. Is something going on at the company?"
Before he could say anything personal, she brought up work to steer the conversation. The security guard, who had sounded like he wanted to chat, replied with a hint of disappointment.
– Yes, well… the Chairman just arrived at the office.
"The Chairman!?"
Surprised, Miyoung raised her voice without meaning to.
The Chairman had never come in on a weekend before.
– Yes, and he brought a woman with him. They seemed close. Her looks and figure… wow. Do you think she might be his secret lover?
"How long ago did he arrive?"
– Just now.
"Okay, thanks."
Ignoring his off-topic comment, Miyoung immediately started getting ready to leave.
She had already made a good impression on the president and senior executives, so she wasn't too concerned about them. But the Chairman was different.
He almost never appeared at the company. Making a strong impression on him even once could be more valuable than completing several major projects.
There was only so far one could go on skill alone. But if someone from the top decided to pull you up, things moved much faster.
When she was younger, Miyoung believed she could succeed on talent alone. But after facing the harsh realities of corporate life, she knew better.
She couldn't afford to miss the rare chance to be noticed by the highest-ranking figure in the company. Without wasting time, she got dressed and headed to the office.
......…
......…
"So please take good care of Joohyun when he joins the company."
"Hahaha… What choice do I have?"
In the Chairman's office, a warm conversation unfolded over tea. The speakers were none other than Chairman Hyunwook and MC mother-in-law Jang Jungyeon.
"You must care deeply for Joohyun. You haven't visited in months, and now you're here just to say hello."
"I'm not a young lady anymore… You can just call me Jungyeon."
"I can't quite do that."
The Chairman's voice carried a touch of disappointment. He clearly felt neglected by her recent lack of contact.
Jungyeon sensed his feelings. Though she felt a little sorry, she couldn't exactly explain that she was busy being trained and dominated by Joohyun every day. Instead, she simply smiled.
Despite being the Chairman, Hyunwook still hoped someone from Jungyeon's family would inherit the company.
Ideally, it would be her. If not, he wished for one of her daughters, Yeonhee or Yeonji, to step up. But none of the three showed any interest in taking over. That troubled him deeply.
Then came Joohyun.
His appearance had sparked Hyunwook's curiosity. If Joohyun proved capable, the Chairman was even considering grooming him as his successor.
Of course, Jungyeon held the majority of the company's shares. She could pass authority to Joohyun at any moment if she chose. But Hyunwook knew she wouldn't do something so impulsive.
If she were the type to act based on emotion, the Choi Han Group wouldn't be where it was today—and he wouldn't be its Chairman.
For now, he planned to observe Joohyun slowly and carefully before making any decisions.
'If he doesn't meet my expectations… then what?'
Even after all these years at the top, the weight of responsibility never left him.
"I'm thinking of assigning Joohyun to Sales Team 3 after his interview. The team leader there is sharp and capable—he'll learn a lot."
"Well, I trust your judgment completely, Chairman."
The mood was friendly as the two chatted and caught up after a long time.
The Chairman had devoted his life to the company. He had no wife or children of his own, which made him even more attached to Jungyeon—almost like a daughter.
"By the way, have you ever considered remarrying? The children are grown now, and it might be time for you to move on from your late husband."
"Well… I don't have any plans to."
Her firm answer made the Chairman sigh quietly. He had no idea it was because of Joohyun.
With her beauty, charm, and wealth, Jungyeon was unmatched—even women in their twenties couldn't compare. But from the Chairman's perspective, her indifference toward men was something to be pitied.
"Well, I should get going."
"Hmm… Can't you stay a bit longer?"
"I'll come again with Yeonji next time."
"Hahaha, alright then. Let's head out."
The mention of Yeonji, whom he adored like a granddaughter, brought a smile to his face. With that, the two left the office and headed down to the first-floor lobby.
And just then…
"Ah, hello, Chairman!"
They ran into Miyoung.

[POV Change]
'Success!'
Miyoung had been waiting in the lobby. The moment she saw the Chairman, she stepped forward and greeted him with perfect timing.
Just as the security guard had said, a young-looking woman stood beside him. For a split second, Miyoung's gaze drifted to her voluptuous figure—but she quickly turned her attention back to the Chairman.
"So, you're Kim Miyoung from Sales Team 3?"
"Yes, sir! Thank you for remembering me!"
"Hahaha, full of energy, I see."
Miyoung greeted him like a new recruit and smiled confidently. The fact that the Chairman knew her name gave her a boost of excitement.
'He knows who I am? That's a huge win!'
Nothing was better for a fast promotion than catching the Chairman's eye.
"It's good timing. I have something quick to tell you."
"Yes, sir!"
"A new employee will be joining your team next week. Please take good care of him."
"A new employee…?"
"Yes. Don't share this with anyone yet."
"Understood!"
As the Chairman and the mysterious woman walked out, Miyoung bowed respectfully. Then she began organizing her thoughts.
'A sudden hire? Judging by his tone, this isn't just a regular recruit. Sounds like a parachute hire. Is it someone related to that woman?'
Her instincts were sharp. Given her rapid climb in the company, she had developed strong intuition about corporate politics.
'If that woman were just the Chairman's lover, he wouldn't bring her to the office. So maybe a relative? A younger sibling, perhaps? A child? Hmm… unlikely.'
The woman looked older than Miyoung but had a youthful appearance and an enviable figure. It was hard to guess her exact age or relationship to the Chairman.
Still, Miyoung was fairly certain that whoever was joining her team had a strong connection to that woman—and, by extension, to the Chairman.
She held back the urge to celebrate and simply smiled.
'This is a chance!'
She had academic connections but lacked regional and family ties, which had always made promotions more difficult.
But now, someone close to the Chairman was joining her team?
This was a golden opportunity unlike any she'd had before.
Whoever the new hire was, they could become a powerful ally once she reached the executive level. Even if they were assigned under her just to "learn," it wouldn't be surprising if they eventually rose above her in rank.
That made it all the more important to build a connection from the start.
Where most people might avoid or look down on a parachute hire, Miyoung saw only potential.
'I'll use everything I can to get to the top!'
To her, it didn't matter who the new hire was. What mattered was who stood behind them.
Instead of being cautious, she was already excited about the prospect of befriending someone who could accelerate her rise.
Without wasting any time, she went back home and began preparing onboarding documents—tools to help the new employee settle in quickly.
She was ready.
