Chapter 2: Chapter 2: The Mysterious Cultivation Technique
Edwin followed the old man back to a dilapidated but still tidy room. The room was filled with an old-fashioned atmosphere, and a few rays of sunlight barely illuminated the dim corners through the cracks in the windows.
"Child, sit down," the old man pointed to a shabby wooden stool. Edwin sat down as told, his eyes full of anticipation and tension.
"The disaster of this apocalyptic world is far more serious than you can imagine," the old man slowly said, his voice carrying a hint of heaviness. "Those who created the virus have evil intentions. They attempt to destroy the world and establish a new order."
Edwin clenched his fists and gritted his teeth, "Can't anyone stop these demons?"
The old man gently shook his head, "Conventional forces are powerless in the face of this disaster. The cultivation technique is our last hope."
As he spoke, the old man took out a yellowed ancient book from a dusty box. The handwriting on the cover was already blurred, but one could still feel an ancient and mysterious aura.
"This is the secret book of the cultivation technique," the old man handed the ancient book to Edwin.
Edwin carefully took it and opened the first page. The words on it were like ancient runes, difficult to understand.
"Sir, I can't understand this at all," Edwin showed a troubled expression.
The old man smiled slightly, "Don't worry. Just listen to me slowly. On the road of cultivation, you first need to sense the spiritual energy within your body. Close your eyes, calm your mind, and feel everything around you."
Edwin did as the old man said and closed his eyes, but the distractions in his heart made it difficult for him to calm down.
"Discard the distractions and imagine yourself in a peaceful forest, only you and nature." The old man's voice gently sounded beside his ear.
Gradually, Edwin's breathing became steady. He seemed to truly feel a weak airflow surging around his body.
"Very good. Now try to guide this airflow into your body and gather it at the Dantian."
Edwin tried hard, but the airflow was always out of control.
"Don't be anxious. Take it slow." The old man encouraged beside him.
Time passed minute by minute. Edwin's forehead was covered with sweat. Just when he was about to give up, he suddenly felt a trace of airflow flowing into the Dantian along the meridians.
He opened his eyes in surprise, "Sir, I did it!"
The old man nodded, "This is just the beginning. The road of cultivation is long and arduous. It requires a firm belief and unyielding perseverance."
In the following days, Edwin almost forgot to eat and sleep as he cultivated. He got up early every day and continuously sensed and guided the spiritual energy as per the old man's instructions.
However, the cultivation process was not smooth. Once, when Edwin was guiding the spiritual energy, he accidentally took a wrong meridian. Immediately, a sharp pain hit him, and he collapsed to the ground.
The old man heard the sound and rushed over. He quickly applied his internal energy to regulate Edwin's condition, "Cultivation must not be rushed, otherwise there is a risk of going insane."
Edwin's face was pale. He nodded, "I understand, sir."
After this setback, Edwin became more cautious, and his cultivation gradually made progress. He was able to guide more spiritual energy into the Dantian and began to try to use this spiritual energy.
One day, when Edwin was cultivating, he suddenly felt a strong pressure coming from all directions. He opened his eyes and found that the air around him seemed to have solidified.
"This is the test of your state of mind. Only by overcoming fear and holding firm to your heart can you break through," the old man's voice came from afar.
Edwin took a deep breath and steadied his mind. Facing this invisible pressure, he took one step forward at a time.
With each step, it felt like a thousand pounds were pressing on him, but he gritted his teeth and refused to give up.
Finally, the pressure suddenly disappeared. Edwin felt that his body and mind had received a baptism.
"Congratulations, child. You have taken an important step," the old man appeared in front of him, with a relieved smile on his face.
Edwin looked at the old man, his heart full of gratitude, "Sir, if it weren't for you, I'm afraid I would have given up long ago."
"This is all your own effort. The road ahead is still long. You need to be prepared." The old man patted his shoulder.
Edwin nodded firmly with determination in his eyes. He knew that he was shouldering the mission of saving the world. No matter how many difficulties and obstacles lay ahead, he would not retreat.
