Chapter 28: Chapter 27: Baseball Game During Lunch Break [Part 3]
For the first time playing baseball, Dekisugi was very interested and immediately imitated Nobita's posture from earlier.
Despite Nobita not always hitting the ball, his posture was surprisingly good.
His hands were close together, his elbows were slightly away from his body, and his forearm was nicely flattened.
He looked quite professional.
Standing in the batting zone, facing the pitcher from the opposing team's baseball squad, Dekisugi said confidently, "I'm ready. You can start pitching."
Watching Dekisugi take his stance, Suneo and Jaian stood off to the side with smirks, eagerly waiting—not for Dekisugi to hit the ball—but hoping to see him struck out and humiliated.
"Suneo, tell me, how do we handle it if that guy Dekisugi gets struck out?" Jaian asked with a smirk. "Honestly, I've been wanting to beat him up for a while now. He's surrounded by so many beautiful girls every day, acting so reliable. Meanwhile, a good guy like me gets forgotten."
Jaian said this with a sense of righteousness, completely unbothered by how ridiculous he sounded.
Suneo, however, wasn't so sure. "Dekisugi is the class president, and he's really smart. We don't want to go too far. If we get in trouble, we could end up with the teacher involved, and that's not something we want."
"Don't worry about him," Jaian replied with a grin. "He said if he got struck out, we could do whatever we wanted. If Dekisugi goes and reports it, I'll just tell everyone about this and see what he does."
Jaian was quite confident about this. "If we get him, it'll just be a free meal."
Suneo knew there was no point in arguing further. He was aware that if he pushed Jaian too much, he would probably get punched himself.
The pitcher from the next class, noticing a newcomer in the Jaian baseball team, smirked and taunted Dekisugi, "Hey! Rookie, let's see if I can strike you out!"
With that, the pitcher took a few steps back and threw the ball with some momentum, aiming it at the mitt of the catcher behind Dekisugi.
While the pitcher was still in elementary school, his throws carried a fair amount of speed and power.
Dekisugi's eyes tracked the ball. To Nobita and the others, it seemed fast, and they thought it was a matter of luck whether he could hit it. But to Dekisugi, it wasn't that fast. He had enough time to judge and line up his swing—wham! The ball soared, and it was a home run!
"Yeah! Dekisugi is awesome! He hit a home run! Go Dekisugi!" Shizuka cheered from the side, thrilled by Dekisugi's hit.
Dekisugi turned, spotting Shizuka on the lawn. He scratched his head and smiled, feeling a bit guilty about hitting a home run against elementary school pitchers, but still enjoying the feeling.
Crushing the weak felt pretty good, he thought to himself.
He flashed a peace sign toward Shizuka.
Jaian, on the other hand, stared in disbelief. "How... how is this even possible? Dekisugi hit a home run?"
Jaian was in complete shock. He had never seen Dekisugi play baseball before and didn't expect such a performance.
Shaking his head, Jaian tried to reassure himself. "It must've been luck. Let's see if he can hit the next two balls."
"If he hits them, then Dekisugi definitely has to join my baseball team! With me as the ace pitcher and Dekisugi as a super hitter, we'll lead the team to victory!" Jaian bragged, already imagining the glory.
Though Jaian considered himself a decent pitcher, he was only a little better than Nobita. Most of his pitches were hit by batters from other teams, though he occasionally managed a strikeout. He was better than Nobita, but not by much, and both he and Suneo had learned not to complain.
"Hit!" The next ball was thrown, and Dekisugi swung again—crack!—another home run.
Jaian's jaw dropped. He couldn't believe it.
By the end of the game, Dekisugi's three consecutive home runs had completely turned the tide, and his team won the game.
Dekisugi handed the bat back to Nobita, who stood there with a surprised look on his face. Dekisugi was about to walk off to the lawn, where Shizuka had been watching.
Jaian and Suneo hurried over, excited to talk to him. "Dekisugi! Please join our Jaian baseball team!" Jaian exclaimed, eager to get Dekisugi on board.
With his newfound baseball skills, Dekisugi had changed the course of the game. Jaian knew that with Dekisugi's talent, their team could finally stop losing.
Suneo agreed, but for different reasons. While Jaian tended to take out his frustration on others when the team lost, Suneo saw Dekisugi as an asset. If Dekisugi joined, maybe their future games wouldn't be so humiliating.
Dekisugi hesitated for a moment before responding. "I'm not sure... My schedule is pretty full these days. I mean, it's fine for now, but in the future, I might be too busy. Still, I guess it wouldn't hurt to join the team occasionally and help you guys out."
Jaian grinned at Dekisugi's response. "Of course! As long as you join us when we have games, we'll have our two ace pitchers and hitters. The Jaian baseball team will definitely go far!"
Suneo shook his head behind Jaian. He couldn't help but think Jaian was being a bit too eager with the praise, but at least this was better than losing all the time.
