Chapter 12: I AM BEGGING YOU
At the gate of Shrek Academy, the registration office for new students.
Bei Bei returned and joined Tang Ya, listening to her recount the conflicts that had occurred earlier.
After hearing Tang Ya's story, Bei Bei was momentarily stunned but ultimately unconcerned.
If Du Weilun was a sensible person, he would, at most, have given Huahuo and Huo Yuhao a minor punishment and would never dare to expel them.
After all, it was the great-grandfather who had personally recommended Huahuo.
How could Du Weilun dare to go against the great-grandfather's wishes?
Just as Bei Bei was comforting Tang Ya, two familiar figures appeared before them.
"Little Brother Huo, Huahuo, are you both alright?"
Bei Bei quickly approached Huo Yuhao and Huahuo, asking with concern.
Judging by the relaxed expressions on their faces, it seemed they were fine.
"Thank you, Brother Bei, and Sister Tang Ya, for your concern. Huahuo and I are fine," Huo Yuhao said, cupping his hands respectfully. However, his next words left Bei Bei and Tang Ya puzzled.
"It's just that what Director Du said makes sense. Rules are rules, and we can't change them. If you can't change them, you can't touch them either."
"???"
Bei Bei and Tang Ya exchanged glances, their minds filled with confusion.
What on earth was Huo Yuhao talking about?
Why didn't they understand?
What rules couldn't be changed? What couldn't be touched?
"Brother Bei, Sister Tang Ya, thank you for taking care of us during this time. Huahuo and I have decided to leave Shrek Academy and find another path."
After saying this, Huo Yuhao sighed and continued, "If it really doesn't work out, we might just retire to a small village or a forest."
"Yes, with our strength, we'd be powerful soul masters in a small village!" Huahuo chimed in, her face beaming with joy.
"In a place like that, we wouldn't be bound by any rules."
"???"
Hearing this, Bei Bei and Tang Ya were even more baffled.
What had happened to make Huo Yuhao and Huahuo want to leave Shrek Academy?
After all, Shrek Academy was the dream of every young soul master!
How desperate must they be to say something like this?
Before Bei Bei could respond, a figure rushed out from the academy gates.
It was Du Weilun, his forehead slick with cold sweat, his expression frantic.
How had these two youngsters moved so quickly?
They had left the teaching department moments ago, and despite Du Weilun following closely behind, he hadn't been able to catch up!
If it weren't for the two pausing at the academy gates, he would have...
Now wasn't the time to dwell on that.
Du Weilun shook his head, pushing the thought aside, and hurriedly said to Huo Yuhao and Huahuo, "Huahuo, Yuhao, you've misunderstood! It's all a misunderstanding!"
He didn't know Huo Yuhao's surname, but he knew his name, whether it was Tang Ya or Huahuo, they both called him Yuhao.
"Misunderstanding?"
Huo Yuhao pursed his lips, not bothering to argue with Du Weilun. He said bluntly, "What you say goes. After all, you're the director of the teaching department. No matter how much we say, it's useless. Once people have biases in their hearts, it's hard to change anything. It doesn't matter, though. It's just Shrek Academy. We'll manage without it."
"That's it. My husband Yuhao is right," Huahuo nodded in agreement, a hint of mischief flashing in her eyes as she glanced at Du Weilun.
Huo Yuhao seemed to recall something, a slight smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
He tilted his head slightly, looked at Huahuo, and said, "Of course I'm right. Don't forget who your husband is."
Huahuo: "..."
"Yuhao, Huahuo, please, stop causing trouble, alright?" Du Weilun clasped his hands together, then discreetly wiped the cold sweat from his forehead before continuing, "I'm begging you!"
"Shrek Academy is the most prestigious institution on the entire continent. Your talents can only shine here. Don't ruin your future over an impulsive decision."
Du Weilun believed that, as the director of the teaching department, he had laid out the pros and cons clearly.
Surely, Huo Yuhao and Huahuo would reconsider.
This was the confidence of Shrek Academy!
But he was wrong. Huo Yuhao and Huahuo exchanged a glance and felt absolutely no hesitation.
They had come to Shrek Academy for fun, not to be controlled!
Huo Yuhao, the Child of Fortune, the King of Cheating, the Emanator of Elation, the Reincarnated One...
With so many buffs, how could he let himself be dictated to?
If he wanted to play, he would play. If he wasn't happy, he'd flip the table!
Suddenly, Huo Yuhao seemed to remember something.
He rolled his eyes, walked up to Du Weilun, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "Old Du!"
"Old Du?"
Du Weilun was stunned, momentarily dazed.
This Huo Yuhao was truly a problem child!
After all, he was the director of the teaching department at Shrek Academy. How dare Huo Yuhao speak to him like this?
It was like a knife to the heart... Ahem, ahem.
"To be honest, if it weren't for the fact that spiritual-type soul beasts are so rare and hard to find, why would Huahuo and I even bother joining an academy?"
Huo Yuhao didn't care about Du Weilun's expression or the reactions of those around him.
He continued, "I thought Shrek Academy, being the number one in the world, could help us. But as soon as we arrived, we were accused of using backdoor connections."
"Isn't it just because we didn't have a recommendation letter from a city lord? Where are we, mere commoners, supposed to get a city lord's recommendation letter?"
The more he spoke, the more "passionate" Huo Yuhao became, though, of course, it was all an act.
As the Emanator of Elation, acting was a necessary skill he had honed.
Shrek Academy?
A reputation built over 10,000 years?
Hehehe, today, Huo Yuhao would tear off its fig leaf!
"Finally, we met the kind-hearted Brother Bei, who was willing to bring us to Shrek Academy. But who would have thought..."
After a pause, Huo Yuhao continued, "Who would have thought that this so-called prestigious academy would punish us for defending ourselves!"
With that, Huo Yuhao sighed deeply, as if utterly disillusioned.
"Ah... No more words. I'm disappointed. Wife Huahuo, let's go."
"Alright, husband Yuhao. Let's find another place, one that doesn't require recommendation letters or slander us."
Huahuo was almost in perfect sync with Huo Yuhao.
She knew exactly what he was up to and played along flawlessly.
Du Weilun stretched out his right hand, his mouth opening slightly as if he wanted to say something, but no words came out.
Bei Bei and Tang Ya were also frozen in place, unsure of how to respond.
They wanted to persuade Huo Yuhao and Huahuo to stay, but they didn't know how to begin.
Shrek Academy operated on a recommendation system.
Without a letter of recommendation from the City Lord's Mansion, the academy wouldn't even consider whether you met the standards, they would simply turn you away.
This system might prevent some commoners from entering Shrek Academy, but it also had its advantages, of course.
However, these things couldn't be openly discussed, and Du Weilun certainly didn't dare to explain them to Huo Yuhao.
Besides, how Shrek Academy chose to admit students was its own business, wasn't it?
What did that have to do with Huo Yuhao?
If the academy showed him extra kindness by allowing him to study, shouldn't he be grateful?
Huo Yuhao took two steps, then suddenly stopped and sighed again. "Shrek Academy has changed. It's not the academy for commoners that it was 10,000 years ago. Alas~"
