Chapter 242: Chapter 225: Emerald Sky
Huo Yuhao groaned, though he already expected it he still couldn't help but wryly smile. "So more than two months? Well I didn't expect my meditation to last so long."
He looked up at Mu En and asked, "What about the girls?"
"They've already exited their meditation about 21 days ago. Xiao Xiao and Ning Tiang are currently studying and cultivating hard in order to pass the Inner Courtyard Examination. As for Wang Dong'er and Wu Feng....they left for their home."
"Dong'er and Feng went home?"
Mu En softly nodded and explained, "They waited for 20 days for you and had just left yesterday. Wang Dong'er went home in order to obtain her 4th soul ring. While Wu Feng on the other hand...she might not come back for at least a few years."
"What?" Huo Yuhao's eyes widened in shock and confusion. Wu Feng wouldn't be returning for a few years? That couldn't be. He knew her devotion towards Ning Tian was immeasurable, and considering the issues she had with some of her family members, she wouldn't willingly stay at her place for such a long time.
Unless it was an important matter.
"Did something happened?"
Mu En lightly chuckled at his worried look and shaking his head. "No worries, Yuhao. Wu Feng is not in danger. She went home simply because she wanted to advance her cultivation."
"She went home to cultivate?" Huo Yuhao blinked and heaved a sigh of relief. As long as she wasn't in real danger, he didn't need to worry.
Wu Feng is a strong girl. Though hot-headed, prideful and stubborn—she holds an intelligent side to her, having accompanied Ning Tian since their childhood.
"....So what now?" After a long period of silence of recovery, Huo Yuhao couldn't help but ask.
Mu En lightly chuckled. "Well, it is entirely up to you. You can either stay here for a while and study under me or go meet up with your friends, the choice is entirely up to you."
"S-Study under you?"
Mu En smiled. "Huo Yuhao. Due to a... unfortunate personal incident that occurred many years, I had abstained from accepting any new disciples. However, with the current state of affairs in the world, I cannot stand by any longer."
Mu En thought of the bigger picture, and none of his old students: Yan Shaozhe and Xian Lin'er were suitable to take on his position as the Pavilion Master—Xuan Zi was a great candidate, unfortunately however, he wasn't strong enough and has some mental issues that would endanger the academy.
Zhang Lexuan was a very suitable candidate, but Huo Yuhao is far more appealing — his personal motives aside, his unlimited potential made him the best candidate to lead the academy and its city as the Pavilion Master.
Mu En wanted to leave this world with the academy in good hands.
"So Huo Yuhao, would you like to become my final disciple?"
Huo Yuhao was shocked, caught off guard by the statement. How could he not? This was the strongest person, besides a God, that he has ever known in the entire continent or perhaps the world!
Moreover, having experienced his expert use of spiritual power, Mu En is qualified to teach him. Being an old monster and isn't a pure spiritual-type soul master, to cultivate spiritual power to such an extent, his teachings would certainly be useful.
However.... he hesitated.
Acknowledging Mu En as his teacher would tie him to the Sea God Pavilion and Shrek Academy, further deepening his bonds and responsibilities here. Considering his potential, it was likely that Mu En would select him as the successor of Sea God Pavilion.
It wasn't that Huo Yuhao disliked the idea—on the contrary, he already held many ties with the school and the potential holds immense influence in the continent. But accepting such a monumental role meant altering the trajectory of his life significantly.
But thinking about it further for a moment, Huo Yuhao couldn't think of any disadvantages of becoming Mu En's disciple.
"Yes, teacher!"
Huo Yuhao went to his knees and kowtowed three times, humbly and respectfully acknowledging Mu En as his teacher.
Mu En's smile turned gentle as he stepped forward, helping Huo Yuhao to his feet. "Good, good. From this moment on, you are my final disciple, Huo Yuhao. I will do my utmost to guide you and help you achieve the greatness I know you are destined for."
Huo Yuhao nodded solemnly, his heart swelling with excitement, wondering what secret techniques he'd learn. "Thank you, Teacher. I will not let you down."
Mu En clasped his hands behind and asked, "So, back to my previous question. Will you study under me for a while or go visit your friends?"
"I..." Huo Yuhao hesitated for a moment before coming to a decision. "I wish to go out for a while and visit my friends, if teacher allows it."
"Hm. I allow it. In fact, if you hadn't chosen this option, I would have encouraged you to do so." Mu En rubbed Huo Yuhao's shoulder. "You had meditated for two months, that is not resting. Go on, reconnect with the world outside and your friends."
Huo Yuhao nodded, placing his fist on his chest. "Thank you, Teacher."
Mu En smiled and disappeared into golden motes.
Huo Yuhao stood alone and glanced around the destroyed cultivation room.
"....I won't have to pay for this, right?"
.....
Mu En's wrinkly eyes opened and let out a chuckle.
"Is something funny, Elder Mu?" Xuan Zi asked, biting down on a chicken leg. He was sitting lazily on a couch nearby, enjoying the sun's rays on his old skin.
Mu En hummed and said, "Hand over your gourd, Little Xuan. I think I need a little sip."
Xuan Zi's eyes widened in shock and almost choked on his chicken. "Y-You....Did something happen?" He stammered, sitting upright.
It has been many decades since he'd seen Mu En drink a lick of liquor.
"Hohohoho. Oh, nothing much. I just thought to have a celebratory drink."
"Huh? Why?"
Xuan Zi's eyes widened as Mu En revealed a smirk that he hadn't shown since....before the death of his children.
"Because, Little Xuan, I finally accepted my last disciple." Mu En said, as he took Xuan Zi's gourd by using telekinesis, one of the many abilities of spiritual power reaching the mortal limit.
Xuan Zi's jaw dropped, the chicken leg in his hand forgotten. "You....took in a disciple? After all these years? Who is it? Wait...don't tell me, it's Huo Yuhao, isn't it?"
"Indeed." Mu En chuckled softly, taking a long sip from the gourd.
His eyes widened and narrowed.
"Little Xuan, be prepared to head out."
"Huh? Is that....?!" Xuan Zi was confused for a moment but stood up, sensing a familiar aura but wasn't too sure. It has been a while since he encountered that monster! "Damn it. I really wished that bastard was dead."
He turned towards Mu En and said, "Don't worry, Elder Mu. I will have it handled."
Mu En nodded and sat back on his wooden rocking chair, a little yellow duck peeked out from under his hood.
"Quack!"
Xuan Zi cupped his hands towards Mu En before disappearing in a golden flash of light to the sky.
....
"Hmm. It's been too long!" Huo Yuhao groaned as he stepped out of the Sea God Pavilion, taking a deep breath of fresh air.
'I should communicate with Ancestor and the others first to learn more about my situation. Since I have teacher Mu's permission, I should head out to Shrek City first.'
Huo Yuhao casually leaped from the pavilion fown to the shore and running on water to the outer courtyard within a few breaths.
Taking a look of his surroundings made him feel melancholic.
Although he had been in deep meditation for two months, it felt way longer than that.
He had absorbed many of his past lives—experiencing them again, and again, and again. Lifetimes of different lives, purpose and dreams.
It was a nightmare. If it weren't for his strong will, Huo Yuhao might've forgotten his identity and be swallowed in the memories of his past lives.
Becoming nothing, but everyone at the same time.
An existence that was no different from being dead.
'I am Huo Yuhao. The son of Huo Yun'er and...Dai Hao. I am a citizen of Star Luo Empire, the sect master of Akatsuki, part of the Ten Heavenly Demons, and someone that will become a God!'
As Huo Yuhao was walking, a weird voice suddenly resounded throughout the entire academy. "Little Xuan, come out you little shit!"
This voice didn't seem very loud, but it echoed through one's ears. It was akin to a clap of thunder when it echoed through one's head. A suffocating pressure descended upon the academy, causing those below six rings to freeze in terror.
In an instant, the entire sky was dyed in a brilliant emerald color. The sound of thunder echoed in the sky, lightning bolts crackled. To affect the weather like that in an instant, that was something only a Titled Douluo could only do!
Huo Yuhao frowned. He looked up and activated his Spiritual Detection. "What strong spiritual power. He's here to find Elder Xuan? Who is this guy?"
At that moment, Skydream's voice sounded in Huo Yuhao's mind. 'Yuhao, be careful! The owner of this voice is at the same level as that elder in the Sea God's Pavilion!'
'Skydream?' Huo Yuhao's eyes widened at his friend's voice.
With his Spiritual Detection, Huo Yuhao saw through the clouds and saw about 20 individuals floating in the sky with a figure enveloped in a dark green aura on the lead.
It was a huge man, that seemed to be in his fifties. With short spiky green hair and beard. His muscular frame emanated an oppressive aura that even those who couldn't sense spiritual power instinctively felt as if they were prey in front of a predator. The man wore a dark green robe that shimmered with a faint metallic luster, adorned with intricate lightning patterns that seemed alive.
The only way one could tell his age was through the look in his dark green eyes, which seemed as if they'd experienced the vicissitudes of life.
The twenty-or-so figures behind the elder lined up. They took different shapes and sizes, but they were all undoubtedly top-ranked individuals in the world since they could float in mid-air through the power of their own cultivations.
By Huo Yuhao's own experience of sensing aura, they were at least Soul Douluo level!
Even Soul Sages could only fly in the air for a short period of time. It was only with eight rings that one could float in the air like this. At the Titled Douluo level, they were then able to fly for long periods of time using their soul power.
The green haired man seemed to sense someone was watching at him and glanced towards Huo Yuhao's general direction.
'Shit!' Huo Yuhao panicked, sensing the immense power of that green haired man, he immediately used Absolute Domain and transported himself back towards Sea God Pavilion.
After his seclusion, it wasn't just Huo Yuhao's soul power, spiritual power and physique that had been increased—his soul skills as well! By his estimations, his first soul ring has gained enough power to match a 50,000 year old skill while the other three are around the level of 60-70,000 years old.
His Absolute Domain now has a range of 5,000 diameters—meaning he could teleport anywhere in the academy and Sea God Island! As long as there's no spatial lock, that is.
The green haired frowned and raised his hand.
Just as he was about to make a move, Elder Xuan's sonorous voice resonated above Sea God Island. "Old Freak Du, you're still alive?"
A streak of bright, yellow light shot into the sky. The blinding radiance instantly covered the entire academy in an instant.
Old freak Du let out a snort and his aura intensified, "How would I be dead when you're still well, you little shit?!"
A blinding yellow light and a eerie dark-green light collided in the sky.
