Chapter 4: Chapter 4: The Leader of the Children – Bei Xuan’s Life in a New World
Time passed, and in the blink of an eye, six years had gone by.
Due to the influence of Douluo Continent's world laws, the conflict between Bei Xuan's two bloodlines had finally ceased. He could now grow up just like an ordinary child.
Like Tang San, Bei Xuan had begun training at the age of three or four. Before sending him off, Bei Luo had given him a special parting gift—the Bixie Clan's cultivation technique. However, there was a major issue: his unreliable father seemed to have overlooked the fact that this technique had an extremely high entry requirement.
The problem wasn't cultivation level but bloodline purity. Without the bloodline of the Bixie King, the technique was completely unusable. Since Bei Xuan's bloodline power had been converted into martial soul power, he estimated that he wouldn't be able to cultivate the technique until he reached Rank 70 and obtained his Martial Soul True Form, which would allow him to partially restore his original bloodline. Until then, he had no choice but to rely on his own training.
Fortunately, he had been born with the peak bloodlines of two powerful demon clans. The memories within his bloodline allowed him to practice basic breathing techniques, even without a proper cultivation manual.
Once his body grew strong enough, he began training in earnest—only to hit an immediate bottleneck. Bei Xuan speculated that his innate power level had already reached full innate soul power by this world's standards. Because of Douluo Continent's rules, without a soul ring, he couldn't increase his cultivation no matter how hard he trained.
Of course, this didn't discourage him. He knew that his efforts weren't wasted—his cultivated energy wasn't lost but merely sealed within his body. A soul ring acted as the key to unlock that power.
Originally, Bei Xuan had thought that, as a demonic being, he might be able to generate his own soul rings, similar to spirit beasts that transform into humans. Otherwise, why would his father say that he wouldn't have to worry about soul beast bloodline interference?
However, he quickly realized he was overthinking it. First, he hadn't even awakened his Martial Soul yet—even if he had a soul ring, where would he attach it? Second, while his bloodline was indeed demonic, his body had been created using the bones of a Bixie King, much like Baili Tusu's resurrection. Aside from having a greater physical potential, he was essentially no different from a human.
"Xuan'er, your friends are here to see you!"
Suddenly, the door creaked open, and an elderly man with a kind smile stepped inside. It was the same old man who had taken him in six years ago.
Coincidentally, the old man shared the same surname as Bei Xuan—Bei Han. He was an ordinary man, poor and alone, having lost his parents early in life. Since he wasn't a Soul Master, he never married or had children.
Despite his unfortunate life, Bei Han had never complained. He lived contentedly, finding joy in small things.
Especially after he found Bei Xuan, he firmly believed that the heavens had gifted him a grandson. For someone who had spent his entire life without family, the sudden arrival of one made him cherish Bei Xuan dearly.
At first, worried that he might give the child a name he didn't like, Bei Han never officially named him and simply called him "Little One."
It wasn't until Bei Xuan turned four that he told the old man, "From now on, I want to be called Bei Xuan."
From that day on, the old man stopped calling him "Little One" and started calling him "Xuan'er."
Although Bei Han wasn't a Soul Master, he did have a Martial Soul—a food-type martial soul: Chinese Cabbage. While it was edible, he lacked soul power, meaning he couldn't produce food on a large scale like food-type Soul Masters. He could only create one or two servings per day, but that was enough to sustain their simple lives.
Moreover, his cabbage was highly nutritious, allowing Bei Xuan to grow even stronger than his peers.
To support them, Bei Han maintained a small vegetable farm and would sell his produce at the market every day. On good days, when he earned a little extra, they could even afford to eat some meat.
To Bei Xuan, this simple life was more than enough. He was truly grateful to his grandfather, who, despite his limitations, gave him everything he could offer.
Bei Xuan had sworn in his heart that in this lifetime, he would repay Bei Han a thousand times over. This wasn't about repaying a favor—it was about filial piety.
To him, Bei Han was his real grandfather.
Though he did wonder... if his father, Bei Luo, ever found out he had acknowledged another elder, would he get mad?
"I understand, Grandpa. I'm heading out now."
Bei Xuan stopped his breathing exercises, jumped off the bed, and replied.
Bei Han chuckled and nodded. "Alright, but be back before sunset—you don't want to miss dinner! Business was good today, so I bought some eggs for you!"
"Really? Thanks, Grandpa!"
With that, Bei Xuan stepped outside, where a group of children was already waiting eagerly. The moment they saw him, they cheered excitedly—
"Xuan-ge, you're finally out! Let's go play! And you have to tell us another story today!"
This village was called Yehuo Village, and these children were from this and nearby villages. Over time, Bei Xuan had become the undisputed leader of all the children in the area.
Because he could tell great stories—and all the kids loved listening to them.
Of course, as a grown man mentally, Bei Xuan had no real interest in playing with little kids. He had a different goal—
He wanted them to spread his stories.
If one child told ten others, and those ten told a hundred, eventually, his stories would spread far and wide.
And the story he told?
It was about a powerful Soul Master named Bei Luo, who spent his life upholding justice, eventually falling in love with a female Soul Master named Yun Wuyue.
To most people, this would sound like nothing more than a children's fantasy. After all, there was no historical record of any powerful Soul Masters named Bei Luo or Yun Wuyue.
But for two individuals, this story would be impossible to ignore—
They were Lan Xiang and Yu Lin, two people who had been sent to reincarnate in Douluo Continent fifty years ago by Bei Luo.
Before sending him here, Bei Luo had instructed him to find them. Even though they would have lost their past strength upon reincarnation, fifty years was plenty of time for them to rebuild their cultivation. If Bei Xuan could find them, he would have powerful allies.
But in a world so vast, where could he even begin looking?
So, he decided to spread stories that only they would recognize—and wait for them to find him.
During this time, he also asked Grandpa Bei Han to listen for rumors whenever he went to sell vegetables in town.
And in doing so, Bei Xuan discovered something interesting—
While most Titled Douluos remained mysterious, some were well-known, such as:
Dugu Bo, the Poison Douluo, The Sword and Bone Douluos of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, The Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluos of Spirit Hall.
But one name stood out—
The Doom Demon Douluo!
