Chapter 15: Chapter 15: What Plan?
As a wild young dragon, Ziji had always been proud of her dragon lineage and had barely interacted with humans, let alone eaten human-made food. She had survived mostly on raw meat and blood.
Now, for the first time, she was tasting human-cooked food—made by Dan Heng, no less.
She pointed at the food in her mouth, flailing her hands around and making incoherent noises.
"..." Zhu Zhuqing, sitting nearby, quietly scooted a bit farther away.
Her master's cousin was truly odd—not at all like a normal person!
Gu Yuena's forehead twitched as she glanced at Ziji and said coldly, "Stop making weird faces!"
Ziji immediately stopped, swallowed the food in her mouth, and looked at Dan Heng with bright, sparkling eyes. "This is amazing! What is this?! I've never had anything this delicious before!"
Dan Heng was slightly surprised as he glanced at Ziji. He knew she was a dragon and not human.
Could the dragons of this world really be living in such a miserable state?
To find ordinary food so exquisite?
"If you like it, have some more," Dan Heng nodded.
"Brother-in-law! You… you're such a great person!"
Ziji exclaimed loudly.
At this moment, she made a decision in her heart: at least for today, she would stop calling Dan Heng a perverted old man!
Just for the sake of this delicious meal!
What mission from Di Tian? Could it possibly be more important than this feast?
Ziji's eyes were locked onto the dishes, her chopsticks moving faster than even Gu Yuena's, her small cherry lips barely closing as she devoured the food like a storm sweeping through the battlefield.
Gu Yuena shook her head helplessly. How could her subordinate be this undisciplined?
She had sent Ziji to capture Dai Mubai, yet here she was, sitting at her house, competing with her for food?
Just as Gu Yuena reached out with her chopsticks to grab a piece of chicken, Ziji snatched it away first.
"..." Gu Yuena narrowed her eyes and looked up at Ziji.
Ziji's small mouth was glistening with oil, her alluring face puffed up like a chipmunk—diluting her natural charm and making her look quite amusing instead.
"Ziji! Mind your manners! This is not your home," Gu Yuena reminded her lightly.
Ziji licked her lips, biting her chopsticks, and looked at Gu Yuena with an innocent expression.
Gu Yuena spoke seriously, "When you eat, you should eat properly. Do you even call that eating? You're gobbling everything up—there'll be nothing left for the rest of us!"
Dan Heng watched Gu Yuena calmly. Before Ziji arrived, Gu Yuena had eaten quite elegantly—but her speed hadn't been any slower than Ziji's.
Gu Yuena looked up and met Dan Heng's gaze.
A faint blush spread across her face, as if she had guessed what Dan Heng was thinking.
"Dear husband, I'm just educating Ziji. She'll have to get married one day—she can't be this unrefined. Slow down a bit, act more ladylike…"
Ziji looked at Gu Yuena pitifully. Slow down? Then how long would it take her to finish eating?
If not for the fact that the Lord was here, she would have dumped all the food into her mouth in one go!
That perverted old man might be useless in other ways, but his cooking skills were absolutely divine!
She even entertained the idea of becoming a villainous dragon and kidnapping him just to cook for her forever.
But of course, she was also aware that Dan Heng was likely stronger than even her master. She, as a mere young dragon, couldn't possibly handle him.
Meanwhile, Zhu Zhuqing kept her head down, silently eating her plain rice.
Weak, pitiful, and helpless.
The four of them continued their meal in a more orderly manner, with Gu Yuena deliberately slowing down.
Yet, among the four, she was still the one using her chopsticks the most frequently.
Ziji, while glaring at Dan Heng, also followed Gu Yuena's lead in grabbing food.
The Lord might have reprimanded her, but she wasn't mad at the Lord—this was all Dan Heng's fault!
It was always his fault!
"..." Dan Heng ate only a little before leaving the table.
Being stared at so intensely with resentment by Ziji was making him uncomfortable.
He was now certain—Ziji was not mentally stable.
When dealing with someone with mental issues, he should be more patient and not stoop to their level.
Evening.
Ziji was assigned to sleep in the same room as Zhu Zhuqing.
Dan Heng didn't want to interact with this troublesome "sister-in-law" any more than necessary.
Getting involved with her would undoubtedly disrupt his peaceful life, and she might even turn out to be as persistent as Ren.
Returning to his room, Dan Heng saw a book placed on the table by the window.
The cover read: "Three-Year Plan."
"What plan?" Dan Heng muttered, slightly startled.
Just then, a soft fragrance drifted behind him. Gu Yuena rushed in, quickly snatching the book from the table. She turned around and flashed him a radiant smile.
"It's just something I wrote for fun."
Gu Yuena spoke with a guilty conscience.
She knew for certain that Dan Heng was someone who valued peace and quiet. If he found out that she had an ambitious plan, he might start being wary of her—which would be a terrible outcome.
Gu Yuena climbed onto the bed, slipping under the covers, leaving only her beautiful face exposed as she gazed at Dan Heng expectantly.
Ziji's antics today had made her quite unhappy.
At the same time, they also reminded her that her relationship with her husband was still too distant.
Even though they were already married, they had barely even held hands.
Let alone anything else.
So, she needed to take action to change that—to deepen their bond.
Dan Heng looked at Gu Yuena in confusion. From her exquisite, delicate face, he seemed to sense something.
"You…"
Gu Yuena blinked and said, "Husband, ever since we got married, we haven't really had any nightly conversations, have we?"
"Since my… cousin came over today, I want to talk to you more. There's still some unfamiliarity between us, and… I want us to get closer."
As she spoke, Gu Yuena gave a shy smile, though her eyes were bright with determination.
"..." Dan Heng was silent for a moment, then got into bed, turned his back to her, and shook his head. "It's late. I don't stay up. Good night."
"???"
Gu Yuena watched as Dan Heng turned away from her.
His breathing soon became calm and steady—he was already asleep.
That fast?!
Her face stiffened as she reached out and nudged his shoulder. "Wake up, husband, wake up! Let's talk about Zhuqing. When she reaches rank thirty, let me be the one to teach her—"
Dan Heng didn't respond.
Gu Yuena puffed up her cheeks in frustration, clenching her small fists, itching to knock him on the head.
She raised her hand twice—but ultimately couldn't bring herself to do it. Instead, she let out a small huff.
"Bad husband…"
Meanwhile, atop the city walls not far from the courtyard, Di Tian stood gazing in their direction. Seeing the lights in the house go out, curiosity flickered in his eyes.
"Did Ziji manage to relieve some of the Lord's burdens?"
Di Tian sighed softly. Right now, all he felt was frustration.
He was still not strong enough—otherwise, he wouldn't have to curry favor with Dan Heng.
Under the dazzling starlight, Di Tian stood in silent contemplation, wondering—
Just how powerful was Dan Heng, for the Lord to make such a sacrifice for him?
