Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Brother-in-law, Let Me Take You Somewhere Fun
At dawn, Dan Heng left the courtyard, while Zhu Zhuqing began her training under Gu Yuena.
Gu Yuena did not interfere with the meditation method that Dan Heng had given to Zhu Zhuqing. Knowing that she could not optimize it, she instead focused on training Zhu Zhuqing's movement techniques.
Although Gu Yuena could not utilize much of her soul power, she was, after all, the Silver Dragon King who commanded the elements. By manipulating wind elements and other forces, she created obstacles for Zhu Zhuqing, making her engage in evasive training.
From an outsider's perspective, Zhu Zhuqing looked as if she was dancing alone, swiftly weaving and turning, appearing rather peculiar.
Zi Ji squatted on the ground, munching on sunflower seeds as she watched Zhu Zhuqing train. From time to time, she sneaked glances at the reclining chair beside her.
That was the old pervert's chair. She wanted to lie on it, convinced that it must be extremely comfortable, but Gu Yuena forbade her from doing so.
"It must be because the old pervert is too perverted, and Master is afraid I'll be corrupted by him. That's why she won't let me sit on it!"
"That old pervert is always putting on airs. Is he really as strong as Master claims? No matter how I look at him, it doesn't seem possible!"
Zi Ji pondered, completely unable to understand.
Dan Heng never flaunted his strength and had never displayed his power in front of others.
Moreover, his power differed from the Douluo Continent's system—it was neither soul power nor divine power. As a result, neither Zi Ji nor Di Tian could sense how powerful he truly was.
If not for Gu Yuena keeping them in check, they would have already challenged him.
"Master wouldn't have been deceived, right?"
Zi Ji lightly tapped her forehead, when suddenly, her eyes caught sight of a figure approaching the courtyard with an oily grin.
Clicking her tongue, Zi Ji discarded the sunflower seed shells in her hands. Zhu Zhuqing would sweep them up anyway.
If she didn't toss some trash around, wouldn't Zhu Zhuqing be sweeping for nothing?
"What are you doing here?" Zi Ji blocked Dai Mubai at the entrance and asked indifferently.
Dai Mubai held a gift box in his hand and smiled, "Zi Ji, I came to see my brother-in-law and my sister. I hadn't heard before that you had relatives here. If I had known, I would have come better prepared."
He was dressed in a white suit, his golden hair neatly combed back, and when he smiled, his bright white teeth were visible.
He did have a somewhat refined and dignified appearance.
"Is it food?" Zi Ji glanced at the box.
"No… it's a piece of fine silk."
Dai Mubai shook his head.
"Then forget it. Just throw it away." Zi Ji immediately showed a look of disdain.
Dai Mubai was momentarily speechless, looking troubled as he faced Zi Ji. "Zi Ji, this is for my brother-in-law and my sister. Could you… could you let me in first? I just want to pay them a visit."
His face carried a forced smile, but deep down, he was extremely frustrated.
In his view, Zi Ji, this naive girl, should have been easy to manipulate. He had already lowered his posture, yet he hadn't made any progress at all.
Now, she wasn't even letting him through the door…
"Why should I let you in? Who even are you?" Zi Ji sneered. This was the old pervert's house—of course, she wouldn't let a little pervert in!
"I…"
Dai Mubai was stunned by her words and truly felt anger rising.
He clenched his fists. If he had at least held Zi Ji's hand before, he would have already lost his temper by now.
Did they really think he, Super Dai Mubai, was just a pushover?
"Zi Ji, stop messing around, alright? Let me in. I just want to visit my brother-in-law and my sister…" Dai Mubai forced a smile.
Zi Ji's eyes flickered mischievously, and she suddenly pointed at Zhu Zhuqing, who was training in the courtyard.
"You want to come in? If you can touch the hem of her clothes, I'll let you in. Otherwise, you better scram." Zi Ji then waved at Zhu Zhuqing, beckoning her over.
Zhu Zhuqing walked over. She had already noticed Dai Mubai long ago.
As for this so-called fiancé of hers, all she felt was rejection and disgust. She had no desire for any interaction whatsoever.
"Zhuqing, this is a good opportunity to test what your teacher has taught you. Let him try to catch you…"
Zi Ji grabbed Zhu Zhuqing's shoulder and pushed her out of the courtyard, leaving a gap of about three meters between her and Dai Mubai. Then, she said, "Now, start chasing her. If you can't catch her, forget about coming in."
Dai Mubai grinned and said, "Alright! It's just a little girl."
As soon as he finished speaking, he lunged toward Zhu Zhuqing.
Zhu Zhuqing's figure flickered, gracefully retreating, leaving behind an afterimage.
Dai Mubai missed, the distance between them remaining at one meter.
Smiling, he accelerated again, charging at Zhu Zhuqing even faster, yet the distance between them remained exactly one meter.
It was as if Zhu Zhuqing was deliberately maintaining that distance!
Dai Mubai's smile began to stiffen. He dropped all pretense and exerted his full strength, yet no matter how fast he was, Zhu Zhuqing remained precisely one meter ahead of him—never closer, never farther. She was completely suppressing him!
Inside the courtyard, Gu Yuena walked over to stand beside Zi Ji, watching the chase.
"Our… brother-in-law is quite a good teacher. Zhu Zhuqing's speed has improved by at least thirty percent, and her control over fine movements is much more refined!" Zi Ji squinted, speaking truthfully.
As a soul beast, her focus on speed and strength was even greater than that of soul masters.
Gu Yuena's lips curled slightly. "Of course."
That was her husband, after all. A casual lesson from him was enough to benefit Zhu Zhuqing tremendously. He was not someone ordinary soul masters could compare to.
After watching for a while, the two women lost interest.
Gu Yuena thought about making lunch for Dan Heng, preparing a meal herself, and packing it in a lunchbox before leaving.
By the time she left, Dai Mubai had already activated his martial soul, drenched in sweat, panting with his tongue sticking out. Resting his hands on his knees, he gasped, "You… what the hell is going on?"
"How are you this fast… without even activating your martial soul?"
Dai Mubai couldn't understand. Zhu Zhuqing hadn't even used her martial soul—how was she still toying with him like this?
Zhu Zhuqing looked at him coldly. "As dumb as a pig."
A Tempting Offer
The library had a lunch break.
Due to the influence of the city lord's recent gift, Dan Heng's colleagues were still cold toward him.
He enjoyed the peace and quiet, but he knew this situation wasn't sustainable.
If he didn't dissolve the tension, it would inevitably lead to new problems.
As soon as the lunch break started, a chubby red-haired teenager appeared at the service desk.
His round face was plastered with a smile, squinting his eyes into slits.
"Brother-in-law, do you remember me?" Ma Hongjun asked ingratiatingly.
Dan Heng frowned slightly, recalling Ma Hongjun from yesterday—one of the people who had tried to cause trouble at his doorstep.
And now he was also calling him brother-in-law? It seemed Zi Ji was getting along well with them.
"Brother-in-law, let me take you somewhere fun. It's just a little token of my appreciation…" Ma Hongjun rubbed his hands together, giving Dan Heng a knowing look.
Dan Heng shook his head. "Not interested."
"Aiya, brother-in-law, come on! Don't worry, no one will know, and there's no danger. Though I have to admit, sister-in-law is really beautiful…" Ma Hongjun buzzed around Dan Heng's ear like an oversized fly.
Dan Heng had had enough.
At last, he found someone even more annoying than Jin.
Unable to endure any longer, he finally asked, "Where?"
"Brother-in-law, just come with me and you'll see! I promise you won't want to leave…" Ma Hongjun tried to pull Dan Heng along, but he dodged. Seeing Ma Hongjun's eagerness, Dan Heng reluctantly followed.
Anything for some peace and quiet.
