Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Casually Rescuing a Cat
Dan Heng left the city.
As the only young man working at the library, he was responsible for retrieving overdue books.
Some people borrowed books and failed to return them on time, requiring him to visit their homes to collect them.
Having finished his tasks within the city, he now had to visit the villages outside.
With a backpack slung over his shoulders, he walked briskly toward his destination.
Because the small city was near the Star Dou Forest, wild beasts occasionally appeared. As a result, the roads were empty by dusk.
It was currently early afternoon, but there were still few travelers.
After walking a little over three miles, he had only seen five people.
As he passed a rice field, a rustling sound suddenly emerged—something was moving through the crops, quickly approaching.
Though Dan Heng did not practice this world's cultivation system, his inherent strength was universally applicable.
He could sense the approaching presence.
Three hundred meters, two hundred meters, one hundred meters… It was coming!
Dan Heng stopped in place, waiting for the mysterious creature, which was moving even faster than a rabbit.
Whoosh!
A black shadow shot out from the rice field, heading straight toward him.
Dan Heng was momentarily stunned.
It was a young girl with cat-like features.
She seemed to be fleeing in a panic, not even looking ahead, which resulted in her crashing directly into him.
Bam!
She slammed into Dan Heng's chest.
No ambiguous scene unfolded.
To put it bluntly, Dan Heng's body was tougher than diamond.
Especially with the speed at which she had collided, it was no different from hitting a solid city wall.
Dan Heng raised a hand to protect the girl's head, preventing her from knocking herself unconscious.
However, her nose suffered—after the intense impact, two thin trails of blood immediately trickled down.
She was left dizzy and disoriented.
Dan Heng held her by the waist and set her down so she could stand.
Then he handed her a cloth. "Wipe it off."
Zhu Zhuqing, still dazed, instinctively took the cloth.
As she wiped her face, she suddenly looked up in alarm.
"Damn! They've caught up…"
At her words, she noticed the surrounding area had already been encircled by men in black.
They were all staring intently at her and Dan Heng.
Their expressions carried a hint of panic.
Not because of Dan Heng—he was an unknown variable whose strength they couldn't gauge.
Rather, they were panicking because Zhu Zhuqing had accidentally crashed into his chest.
If this were reported back to the Star Luo royal family, they would all be punished!
Their gazes toward Dan Heng immediately turned hostile.
This meddling fool—why did he have to be here?!
They had been planning to "chase" Zhu Zhuqing for just a bit longer before making their retreat, but now things had become complicated.
"Third… Third Miss, you have nowhere left to run."
The men in black closed in, making escape impossible.
Zhu Zhuqing's expression was grave as she bit her lip.
Dan Heng watched the scene unfold calmly.
Hmm, it seemed this girl was in trouble.
What puzzled him was that, despite their aggressive demeanor, these men in black had no actual killing intent.
Was this some kind of family trial?
With that thought, Dan Heng decided not to interfere.
He let go of Zhu Zhuqing's slender waist.
But she instinctively leaned against him again.
"…"
Dan Heng quickly supported her once more, giving her a puzzled look.
Zhu Zhuqing blushed. She had been so focused on her situation that her body had naturally moved toward him.
The men in black, however, were furious.
The Third Prince's fiancée was dressed in a tight leather outfit, and now she was leaning against another man?
If the royal family found out, they would all be punished!
Their glares toward Dan Heng turned even colder.
"If you have no business with me, I'll be on my way," Dan Heng said softly.
He disliked trouble, especially if it interfered with others' affairs.
Zhu Zhuqing opened her mouth, wanting to ask for help.
But upon seeing Dan Heng's indifferent expression, she swallowed her words.
Dan Heng released her waist.
This time, she stood firmly.
He took a few steps forward, intending to leave.
But the men in black immediately raised their weapons, aiming at him instead.
"???" Dan Heng frowned slightly.
One of them spoke:"You're coming with us too."
"Why?" Dan Heng asked.
"…"
Because you just got intimate with the Third Prince's fiancée! You need to be brought back for punishment!
Of course, they couldn't say that out loud.
"Stop asking. You have no—"
Before the man could finish speaking, he lunged at Dan Heng.
To them, Dan Heng was just an ordinary person. They were all soul masters, so they didn't even consider using a formation—they expected to take him down effortlessly.
"Don't hurt him! He has nothing to do with this!" Zhu Zhuqing quickly pleaded.
"…" Dan Heng sighed inwardly.
All he wanted was a peaceful life.
Why did trouble always come looking for him?
With a casual chop of his hand, he struck the attacking man's neck.
A blur of motion flashed.
The man instantly collapsed, eyes rolling back as he lost consciousness.
The surrounding men froze.
Then, they all charged at Dan Heng together.
"This guy isn't normal! Take him down!"
Dan Heng let out a small sigh.
The tree desires stillness, but the wind will not cease.
He weaved through them effortlessly, his hand flashing out.
One after another, the men dropped, unconscious.
Soon, the ground was littered with their unconscious bodies.
Dan Heng looked at them and shook his head.
He hoped they wouldn't disturb his hard-earned peace.
After taking a few more steps, Zhu Zhuqing suddenly blocked his path.
"?" Dan Heng gazed at her, puzzled.
Zhu Zhuqing suddenly knelt before him, speaking earnestly:
"I wish to learn from you! Please, teach me!"
Her eyes burned with determination.
She had fled Star Luo Empire to become stronger so that she could one day defeat her sister and Da Weisi.
And just now, Dan Heng had used only his physical strength to defeat the men in black.
This level of power—he was definitely an expert!
She didn't want to miss the chance to learn from such a skilled master.
Dan Heng shook his head. "Not interested."
Then, he simply walked around her and continued toward the village.
…
By the time the sun was setting, Dan Heng returned home—with a small follower trailing behind him.
Inside the courtyard stood a familiar figure—his "wife," Gu Yuena.
She was in the midst of a verbal battle with a group of women.
Over thirty women, all of whom had previously been his matchmaking candidates, were now sobbing as Gu Yuena verbally destroyed them.
[T/N: No way She became a True Housewife 😭]
Seeing Dan Heng return, they clutched their faces and fled in tears.
"What happened?" Dan Heng asked, curious.
Gu Yuena clapped the dust off her hands, her fair face carrying a hint of smugness.
"Oh, just the wails of a bunch of defeated losers. They dared to challenge me? Overestimating themselves."
"…Oh." Dan Heng didn't quite understand but entered the courtyard anyway.
Gu Yuena's gaze suddenly landed on the young girl behind him.
"And who is she?" Gu Yuena narrowed her eyes.
She suddenly recalled what one of those "defeated losers" had said—
"There's no such thing as a cat that doesn't stray."
Had her husband already gone astray on the first day of marriage?!
