Chapter 52: Revenge

Hearing Qian Renxue mention her real name surprised him.

He had expected her to use a false name. But after some thought, he realized that since her identity was a secret known only to a few, revealing her name wasn't a problem.

Her true identity, however, was a different matter. If exposed, it would bring great trouble to Spirit Hall.

Thinking about her life, he felt it was nothing short of a disaster.

Her father was killed. Her mother hated her. Her grandfather, a fool, had made her waste all her time and her talent on meaningless things like impersonating a prince. And the most outrageous of all, she had been manipulated into falling in love with Tang San. In the end, her divinity was destroyed, and she became a mortal once more.

As Wu Lan reflected on her life, the villagers returned.

"Soul masters, thank you for your help."

"No problem," Wu Lan replied. Then, remembering the bandit's last words, he asked,

"By the way, who is Mo Jianye? The bandit leader mentioned that name as he was dying."

Hearing this, the villagers were stunned. One of them finally responded,

"This… Soul master, Mo Jianye is in charge of the Spirit Hall branch near Soto City."

"So they're working together," Wu Lan commented.

Upon hearing this, Qian Renxue's expression turned grim. The idea that members of Spirit Hall were backing bandits deeply disturbed her.

When had Spirit Hall become so corrupt?

Xiao Wu's hatred for Spirit Hall deepened. Zhuqing also looked visibly angry.

Wu Lan, on the other hand, wasn't surprised. The villagers had suffered under the bandits for years.

Even after repeatedly asking Spirit Hall for help, they received no response.

So Mo Jianye was accepting money from the bandits. Now that they were dead, he would surely come looking for them to collect his share.

Since Soul Ancestor Village was closer to Soto City, that bastard would likely go there first to inquire about the bandits. He might even come to this village. He wouldn't take any chances.

Wu Lan wanted that bastard to pay for making the villagers' lives miserable.

So he began thinking of a way to ease the villagers' suffering, while protect their lives.

Soon, he came up with an interesting plan that could satisfy everyone.

"Since your houses are damaged and filled with blood, how about coming to Soul Ancestor Village for a few days, until the village is cleaned up?"

Hearing this, the villagers looked around at the mess. Understanding his intentions, they agreed and began informing others to pack their belongings for the temporary move.

Qian Renxue felt a bit embarrassed upon hearing the phrase 'filled with blood.' In her rage, she had made the bandits bleed more and suffer more, turning the village into a mess.

Suddenly, Wu Lan turned toward her. She panicked slightly, thinking he was going to blame her for the mess. But she was relieved when he simply asked,

"Qian Renxue, what's your plan?"

She had originally wanted to go and deal with the bastard who was ruining Spirit Hall's name. But she was curious about Wu Lan, who was quietly helping the poor, made her hesitate. So she replied,

"I'll stay here for a few days."

Wu Lan was relieved. He had been thinking of ways to stop her in case she insisted on going to confront that bastard, which might have disrupted his plan.

"Okay," he said.

Soon, everyone began traveling to Soul Ancestor Village. Because they were moving with villagers, they traveled slowly and took several breaks to rest.

After a few hours, they finally arrived.

The two kids who had earlier kidnapped ran into the village, shouting for their parents.

Hearing their children's voices, the parents rushed out from their shelters, crying as they tightly hugged their sons.

Wu Lan explained the situation to the village elder. The old man cried with joy and thanked them deeply.

"We didn't do anything. She solved it." Wu Lan pointed at Qian Renxue.

The old man turned to thank her, and the rest of the villagers followed.

Qian Renxue felt genuinely happy, that she had saved innocent people.

Soon, everyone began building temporary homes to live in.

Wu Lan took out food and water for them.

The villagers sat together and enjoyed a moment of peace after three long years of torment.

As they celebrated, Wu Lan's group and Qian Renxue sat nearby, quietly watching the joyful scene.

Qian Renxue began to grow more familiar with Wu Lan's peculiar group.

Xiao Wu was energetic and carefree, always sticking close to Wu Lan.

Zhu Zhuqing had a cold personality, but her smile only appeared when she spoke with Wu Lan.

Bi Ji and Zi Ji, one gentle, the other somewhat cold, always addressed Wu Lan as 'Master.'

At the center of the group was Wu Lan himself. Gentle and kind toward the villagers, always calm, with a beautiful smile on his face that made people feel safe.

Qian Renxue became even more curious about his identity.

"Brother, we can't let that bastard get away," Xiao Wu said angrily, After hearing the villagers' suffering.

Zhuqing's face turned cold as well.

Qian Renxue had already sentenced that man to death in her mind, for tarnishing Spirit Hall's glory.

"Don't worry, Rabbit. I'll never let him go. Tomorrow, there'll be an interesting show to watch,"

Wu Lan said mysteriously.

Xiao Wu's eyes lit up. Every time Brother said that, she always enjoyed what followed. Eager to know, she grabbed his arm and shook it with a pitiful expression.

"Brother, what is it? Tell me!"

Wu Lan laughed at her antics and replied, "No. Wait until tomorrow to find out."

Xiao Wu immediately pouted, disappointed that her tricks didn't work.

Seeing her antics, everyone laughed, including Qian Renxue.

She genuinely enjoyed her time with them.

She had never felt these kinds of emotions before. From a young age, due to her status and the responsibilities she bore, she had never had the freedom to experience them.

She had never had friends she could talk to and because of her identity, she was never allowed to.

But now, for the first time, she felt how good it was to have someone to talk to without worrying about schemes and politics.
