Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Injured Fatty

Three months may not seem like a long time, but in this period, the students of Shrek Academy had undergone a complete transformation—almost as if they had been reborn from the ashes.

The reason for this drastic change was one person: Xiao Tianyang.

During this time, they endured not only the grueling training assigned by Yu Xiaogang but also the relentless beatings from Xiao Tianyang.

Initially, after their first encounter with Saber, Tang San and the others thought they had already experienced the worst kind of torment. But when Xiao Tianyang arrived like an unstoppable force, they realized how naive they had been. Compared to him, Saber had been a merciful opponent.

What they faced under Xiao Tianyang's training could no longer be considered mere sparring—it was pure, unrelenting domination.

When Yu Xiaogang noticed that Tang San and the others had started avoiding Xiao Tianyang at all costs, he decisively removed Saber as an alternative sparring partner, plunging them into utter despair.

However, after about a week, they began to see things differently.

The first step was to abandon any illusions of victory. Instead, they focused on how to minimize their beatings and, most importantly, how to land effective counterattacks.

And this strategy worked—at least, according to Xiao Tianyang.

Of course, this didn't mean that Xiao Tianyang himself had remained stagnant. There were simply some techniques he found inconvenient to use in these training sessions; otherwise, would it really take him so much effort to defeat them?

With a single punch, he could shake the air itself. Even if Tang San and the others combined their strength, they likely wouldn't be able to withstand such an attack. Despite his overwhelming advantage, his soul power had only reached level 36 after three months—an unusually slow progression.

Had it not been for the Zhangtian Bottle assisting his cultivation, his advancement might have been even slower.

Tang San and the others hadn't seen much increase in their soul power either. Instead, their biggest gains during this time were in physical fitness and combat experience. After all, strength wasn't solely determined by soul power.

And besides, if they hadn't been improving, wouldn't they still be getting beaten just as severely?

Logically, their growth shouldn't have been this rapid. However, there was another factor at play—an unexpected one: the sports drink contained in the Zhangtian Bottle!

Initially, Xiao Tianyang had believed its sole function was to restore physical stamina. Only later did he realize that drinking it regularly subtly enhanced the consumer's physique.

Combined with the effects of his special cuisine, their bodies were developing at an accelerated rate.

If they couldn't make progress even under these conditions, then they certainly wouldn't be worthy of ascending to godhood in the future.

Interestingly, perhaps due to improved nutrition, even the girls' figures and temperaments had subtly changed.

Ning Rongrong, for instance, had lost her delicate and pampered demeanor. A newfound heroism shone in her eyes, giving her an air of confidence and strength.

Saber, who had originally maintained a balanced physique, now had an even more defined form—lean where she should be, curvaceous where it mattered. She was starting to stray from the petite image of a typical anime-style loli, much to Xiao Tianyang's satisfaction, as she fit his personal aesthetic preferences even more.

As for Zhu Zhuqing, her changes were both the least noticeable and the most dramatic. Her waist, arms, and thighs had become more toned, but her most prominent features remained unchanged. This naturally sparked envy in Ning Rongrong, who lamented her own lack of development.

Xiao Wu, however, was an exception.

Among all the girls besides Saber, she ate the most, yet her physique remained completely the same—still maintaining that youthful, petite appearance. While Tang San certainly had no complaints, Xiao Tianyang felt that at the very least, she should put in some effort to change.

As for the boys? Xiao Tianyang barely paid them any attention. Other than the fact that they seemed to have grown taller and leaner, he had no interest in observing their physical changes.

Outside the cafeteria, Xiao Tianyang busied himself with the grill, while a girl beside him helped skewer the ingredients.

Dai Mubai and the others were nowhere to be seen. They had only left behind a brief remark: "We'll be back for dinner."

"Hmph, I never thought even Oscar would give in in the end," Xiao Wu muttered while skewering meat.

Saber, ever blunt, commented, "To be fair, if we didn't get one day off every seven days, they wouldn't have had a chance to escape."

"Hey, hey! Don't talk nonsense! I worked hard to negotiate this rest day!" Xiao Tianyang rolled his eyes as he stood by the grill. "If grandmaster hears you, he might just take away our well-earned break."

"That can't happen!" Ning Rongrong gasped and quickly covered her mouth, her hands still busy skewering vegetables. "Saber, you must never bring this up again, understood?"

Saber gave a small nod in agreement.

Only then did Ning Rongrong breathe a sigh of relief and resume her work in peace.

At that moment, Tang San approached, carrying two bags in his hands. He hadn't gone out for leisure but had been tasked with gathering supplies for Xiao Tianyang.

Setting the bags down on the table, he opened them and asked, "Brother Tianyang, is this what you needed?"

Xiao Tianyang took a whiff, then nodded in satisfaction. "Yep, that's the one. Go wash them in the kitchen. Make sure to remove the film at the roots and surface."

"Got it."

Tang San nodded and headed to the kitchen.

Unlike before, Xiao Tianyang no longer insisted on handling all the food preparation himself. At least once every seven days, he allowed them to help with grilling or hot pot.

Not because he had changed his ways, but because he realized that these gatherings created a unique atmosphere. If they didn't do it together, something always felt missing. So in the end, he compromised—letting them handle the prep work while he focused on the cooking itself.

"I'll help you, Brother San!" Xiao Wu eagerly abandoned her task and ran after him.

Just as Xiao Tianyang lit the charcoal fire and prepared to start grilling, a staggering figure emerged from the darkness.

"Fatty?"

With his keen eyesight, Xiao Tianyang immediately recognized Ma Hongjun.

Tang San quickly stepped forward to support him. "Are you alright?"

"Judging by his state, he doesn't look alright at all," Xiao Tianyang muttered.

Taking a closer look at Ma Hongjun, a few guesses formed in his mind. In the original storyline, he hadn't been injured this badly, had he?

Beyond the bruises covering his body, he was missing two teeth, and blood stained the corners of his mouth. His injuries were far from minor.

Without hesitation, Xiao Tianyang activated his martial soul. His first soul ring lit up, and two green flames flew into Ma Hongjun's body. His wounds began healing before their eyes, and even his missing teeth showed signs of regrowth—though slowly, as this wasn't mere recovery but actual regeneration.

"What happened? Speak up!" Xiao Wu demanded, arms akimbo. "If you don't feel like talking, at least sit down and stop disrupting our barbecue!"

Ma Hongjun coughed and looked at Xiao Tianyang with pleading eyes.

"Alright, nothing is more important than eating. Your injuries are healed, and we can talk about revenge and storytelling after dinner," Xiao Tianyang declared, waving his hand.

This satisfied Xiao Wu's curiosity, and she obediently returned to her seat, anticipation gleaming in her eyes.

As for the others, since Ma Hongjun himself had no objections, they decided to wait. Whatever had happened, he would surely speak up soon enough.
