Chapter 17: Chapter 17: The Inner Court Examination
Since Bei Bei and Tang Ya were both wearing third-year uniforms, the four of them entered Shrek City through the east gate without any issues.
However, throughout the journey, Zhou Sichen became the center of attention.
His exquisite appearance—even more delicate than that of most girls—made countless eyes turn toward him.
Tang Ya couldn't help but pout. "They're obviously drawn to his looks. I can understand the first-year students, but even the fifth- and sixth-year senior sisters are acting like this? So shallow!"
Bei Bei chuckled. "And how exactly are you any different from them?"
Tang Ya huffed and crossed her arms. "How could I be the same as them? I just think Brother Zhou is handsome and admire his looks. Unlike them, my thoughts are pure!"
As she spoke, she straightened her chest proudly, then turned toward Zhou Sichen.
"Brother Zhou, don't be fooled by those senior sisters! If you need anything, you can always come to the fourth-year classroom to find me. Bei Bei and I are three years ahead of you, so we can help you understand the academy better."
Hearing this, Zhou Sichen raised an eyebrow and looked at Bei Bei and Tang Ya.
"Actually, I don't plan on staying with the first-year students."
Bei Bei and Tang Ya exchanged glances, looking at him in shock.
"Wait… Are you saying you're skipping the freshman assessment entirely?"
Zhou Sichen nodded. "With my current strength, staying with the new students wouldn't bring me any benefits. In fact, it would feel like bullying."
At those words, Tang Ya, Bei Bei, and Huo Yuhao immediately thought of A'Da and Hellfire.
Those two near-10,000-year-old rare and incredibly powerful contract soul beasts could easily crush every single freshman.
Even among the fifth- and sixth-year students, there were probably very few who could fight A'Da and Hellfire head-on.
And that was excluding Zhou Sichen's mysterious third contract beast, which he had yet to reveal.
If A'Da and Hellfire were already that strong, could the third one really be any weaker?
Bei Bei nodded thoughtfully. "That makes sense. In the past, there have been cases where students who demonstrated sufficient strength were allowed to skip ahead."
After considering it for a moment, Bei Bei offered a suggestion.
"Brother Zhou, even though your actual combat power far exceeds mine, you're still only at Rank 38. How about this—you can apply for an advanced placement and join our class directly?"
Hearing this, Tang Ya secretly gave Bei Bei a thumbs-up and added excitedly, "That's right! Brother Zhou, you don't really know anyone at the academy yet. If you join our class, we can all look out for each other!"
Meanwhile, Huo Yuhao clenched his fists tightly.
While he was worried about his upcoming freshman assessment, Brother Zhou was about to skip straight past it and enter the upper ranks of the academy.
Huo Yuhao silently motivated himself.
"Little Yuhao, you can do this too! Keep working hard!"
However, Zhou Sichen simply smiled faintly.
"I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. I'm not just planning to skip a few grades."
His words shocked Bei Bei and Tang Ya.
"Brother Zhou… Are you saying you want to enter the Inner Court directly?"
Bei Bei knew all too well how difficult that was.
He couldn't help but warn him.
"Brother Zhou, I know you're strong, and your talent is incredible. But the Inner Court and the Outer Court are on completely different levels."
"Many students who are considered top geniuses in the Outer Court struggle to keep up once they enter the Inner Court. My suggestion is that you spend two years in the Outer Court first before trying to enter the Inner Court."
Zhou Sichen appreciated the concern, and his heart warmed at Bei Bei's sincerity.
However, he wasn't an ordinary genius—he was a true anomaly.
Zhou Sichen smiled and replied.
"I understand your point, but I am not an ordinary person."
"Besides, I enjoy challenges. If I had to sit around idly at Shrek Academy without any real competition, I might as well go home and farm instead."
"Shrek Academy is a place where the most talented individuals gather. I came here to compete with them—to surpass every single one of them."
As he spoke, an unshakable confidence radiated from his very being.
"The Inner Court… That is my goal."
At that moment, Bei Bei, Tang Ya, and Huo Yuhao felt as if they were seeing the real Zhou Sichen for the first time.
For the past month, Brother Zhou had always been kind, calm, and approachable.
But this overwhelming confidence—this aura of absolute certainty and dominance—felt like his true nature.
Had he been holding back before just to avoid intimidating them?
Now, as they listened to his firm and unwavering voice, Bei Bei and Tang Ya were left speechless.
After a long silence, Bei Bei finally spoke.
"Brother Zhou… I should've known. Someone like you could only truly shine in the Inner Court."
Zhou Sichen chuckled. "Am I being too arrogant?"
The three shook their heads.
Bei Bei sighed. "Actually, we were the ones who underestimated you. Your three contract soul beasts are all close to 10,000 years old. With that alone, you're already qualified to enter the Inner Court."
"We let our own doubts cloud our judgment. You're not just some genius—you're a true prodigy. Once you enter the Inner Court, I have no doubt you'll make a name for yourself in no time."
Hearing this praise, Zhou Sichen smiled lightly.
"Then I'll take that as a good omen."
Bei Bei turned to Tang Ya. "Alright, Xiaoya, you take Yuhao to handle his enrollment. I'll take Brother Zhou to the Inner Court exam. They're holding the entrance tests right now, so if he passes, he can start immediately."
Tang Ya nodded. "Then I'll wish you success, Brother Zhou. If you pass, you'll officially be our senior!"
Huo Yuhao also spoke up. "Good luck, Brother Zhou! I believe in you!"
Zhou Sichen chuckled. "Don't worry, I won't disappoint you. When you guys make it into the Inner Court, I'll be there to support you."
After exchanging a few more words, the group split up.
Zhou Sichen followed Bei Bei toward the Inner Court assessment site, while Tang Ya took Huo Yuhao to register.
As they walked, Bei Bei gave Zhou Sichen a rundown of the Inner Court's entrance requirements and the major figures within it.
Zhou Sichen listened silently.
In his mind, passing the exam was already a done deal.
Shrek Academy had two divisions:
The Outer Court, where most students started.
The Inner Court, where only the elite could enter.
True disciples of Shrek Academy were those in the Inner Court.
Only Inner Court students could receive the best resources and training.
Furthermore, those who graduated from the Inner Court were almost guaranteed fame across the continent.
Of course, getting in wasn't easy.
The requirements were brutal, and only one out of every ten students who applied actually succeeded.
For this reason, the Inner Court always had fewer than a hundred students at any given time.
After walking through Shrek Academy's massive grounds, the two of them finally arrived at Shrek Plaza.
The large square held three majestic statues—the Golden Iron Triangle, the founders of Shrek Academy from 10,000 years ago.
Passing the statues, they arrived at a row of towering school buildings, each colored differently.
Bei Bei explained:
"The colors represent different grade levels, much like soul rings."
White: First-year students.
Yellow: Second- and third-year students.
Purple: Fourth- and fifth-year students.
Black: Sixth-year students.
Bei Bei sighed.
"But Brother Zhou, with your talent… You might never need to set foot in any of them."
