Douluo: Shadow Sovereign

Chapter 2: CHAPTER 2

(Flashback Continuing...)

I am now six years old—old enough to awaken my martial soul. Over the past year, I have continued my Saitama workout regimen, and now I can complete the full routine: 100 push-ups, 100 pull-ups, 100 sit-ups, and a 10-kilometer run. But is that enough? No.

I have also been trying to mimic Tang San's Purple Demon Eye, though I have yet to see any results. Still, I persist. Even if it takes years, I will keep at it. At the very least, it is honing my self-discipline—something I consider invaluable.

Surprisingly, this practice has improved my meditation. I can feel… something shifting within me, though I don't quite understand what. Regardless, I will keep going.

Beyond that, I have added yoga and stretching before my workouts to enhance flexibility. I have also been experimenting with breathing techniques similar to those from Demon Slayer. While I have yet to reach Constant Breathing, I have noticed tangible benefits—improved oxygenation, reduced stress, and enhanced mental clarity. This is just the beginning.

And today… today is the day we awaken our martial spirits.

(Third-Person POV)

The village square was bustling with nervous excitement. Parents whispered among themselves while children clutched their hands, staring at the approaching figure.

A gust of wind swept through the village as a lone black-haired young man approached on foot, his figure seemingly appearing out of nowhere.

Su Yunyato.

Su Yunyato had traveled purely using his spirit power, his Lone Wolf martial soul allowing him to move swiftly across great distances.

His sharp, piercing eyes swept over the gathered villagers, his black robes flowing lightly in the wind. His presence alone was enough to silence the murmurs.

The village head stepped forward, bowing deeply.

"Honored Spirit Master, we are grateful for your presence. Everything is prepared."

Su Yunyato nodded slightly, his expression unreadable. His voice was calm yet carried an underlying strength.

"Let's begin."

Without another word, he strode toward a small wooden house near the village center.

Inside, the dimly lit room held only a stone awakening platform in its center, surrounded by a few candles casting flickering shadows against the walls. A faint scent of burning incense filled the air, a silent offering to the heavens for good fortune.

Su Yunyato placed a small, aged crystal ball onto the platform along with six awakening stones, each pulsating faintly.

The children, including Mo Ling, gathered inside, but their expressions shifted from excitement to unease as Su Yunyato closed his eyes and exhaled deeply.

Then—

A low, guttural growl filled the room.

A black aura surged around Su Yunyato, twisting like living shadows. His body trembled slightly, and his muscles tensed as if a beast was awakening within him.

Suddenly, his form flickered, and in his place stood a massive wolf-like figure, cloaked in a spectral darkness. The faint glow of his spirit rings—one white and one yellow—hovered behind him, illuminating the dimly lit room.

The children flinched. A few instinctively took a step back, their eyes wide with fear. Even the village head stiffened, though he had seen this ritual before.

"D-Do we really have to do this?" one child whimpered.

Su Yunyato's glowing wolf-like eyes locked onto them, his voice now carrying a slight growl.

"To awaken your martial soul ,you must Step forward, one by one. You cannot run from your fate."

The Awakening Ceremony Begins

The first child, a nervous-looking boy, hesitated before stepping into the awakening circle. His small hands trembled as he stood in place.

Su Yunyato exhaled coldly and released his martial soul.

A powerful gray aura burst forth, and behind him, a lone wolf's shadow loomed, its glowing yellow eyes staring at the children. The intense pressure caused them to instinctively shrink back, fear settling deep into their bones.

However, this was a necessary step. Only under such conditions could their latent martial spirits respond and awaken.

The awakening stones embedded in the circle began to glow softly, resonating with the first child.

A faint golden light flickered around him before condensing into a small, timid brown rabbit.

The villagers whispered among themselves.

"A rabbit… quite ordinary."

Su Yunyato's expression remained indifferent.

"You have awakened a Brown Rabbit martial soul. Now, place your hand on the crystal ball to check your spirit power."

The boy gulped and hesitantly placed his hand on the crystal ball.

For a moment, nothing happened. The crystal remained dull and lifeless—no flicker of light, no surge of power.

Su Yunyato spoke flatly.

"No innate spirit power. You cannot cultivate."

The boy's face fell as he slowly stepped back. His parents sighed but nodded in understanding. This was normal.

The next child stepped forward.

A young girl entered the awakening circle. The glow of the awakening stones surrounded her, and within seconds, a Blue Silver Grass vine appeared at her feet.

The villagers murmured again—another common martial soul.

Su Yunyato gestured toward the crystal ball.

The girl placed her hand on it, her expression filled with hope.

Still nothing.

The crystal remained dark. No spirit power.

Su Yunyato's tone was as cold as before.

"No spirit power. You cannot cultivate."

One after another, the children took their turns, stepping into the awakening circle and receiving their martial souls.

A boy with a Wooden Club martial soul (No spirit power).A girl with a Wildflower martial soul (No spirit power).Another with a Small Deer martial soul (No spirit power).

Each time, they would step forward to the crystal ball. And each time, the result was the same—complete darkness.

The disappointment in the room was palpable. No one had innate spirit power. This was the fate of most commoners—destined to remain ordinary.

Su Yunyato remained unfazed.

"Next."

His sharp gaze then landed on Mo Ling, who had been silently watching at the back.

For some reason, a flicker of interest flashed through Su Yunyato's cold eyes.

"You, step forward."

The final awakening was about to begin.
