The two gatekeepers angrily swung open the doors, ready to confront whoever had the audacity to knock so forcefully.
However, the moment they saw the eight cold, menacing eyes staring back at them, their anger vanished, replaced by fear. Their faces turned pale, and they immediately adopted a submissive tone.
"Gentlemen, who might you be?" one of the guards asked timidly.
Noticing the uniform attire of the four men, the guards realized these were no ordinary visitors. Behind them stood Bibi Dong and Lin Yongming, approaching with an air of authority.
"Is Robert Kang, the Viscount, your master? Where is he? Bring him out," Bibi Dong demanded as she reached the entrance.
"T-this… my lord, our master hasn't been at the estate for many days. We don't know where he is," the braver of the two guards stammered in response.
"Then you have three minutes to bring out whoever is in charge right now. Otherwise, I'll have no choice but to force my way in," Bibi Dong said coldly, leaving no room for negotiation.
"Y-yes, right away!" The guard nodded repeatedly before turning and rushing into the estate.
Although Bibi Dong's strength wasn't overwhelming, her commanding presence was enough to intimidate ordinary people.
"I buried Kuanghu in the mountains, and with the Blue Silver Grass covering the area, there should be no evidence left," Lin Yongming thought to himself.
He hadn't expected Bibi Dong to take such a stern approach on his behalf. Compared to her demeanor when dealing with Torres, she now seemed even more serious and unyielding.
It was around seven in the evening, the time when most families were having dinner. The guard ran to the main hall, where a group of people was gathered around a dining table.
"Madam! Madam!" the guard called out urgently at the entrance.
"A-Fu! Why are you in such a hurry? Has the master returned?" asked a dignified, elegantly dressed woman sitting at the head of the table.
"N-no, Madam. There are people at the gate demanding to see the master. They seem hostile and said they'll force their way in if someone in charge doesn't come out within three minutes," the guard explained hurriedly.
"Do you know who they are?" the woman asked.
"I don't… but they seem formidable. I didn't dare delay."
"Let's go. I'd like to see which family dares to provoke us at our own estate," the woman said, standing up. The others at the table naturally followed her lead, accompanying the guard to the entrance.
The woman, dressed in a dark black gown, had her orange-yellow hair pinned up with a hairpin. Her makeup was flawless, and she wore a pair of earrings and a delicate ruby necklace.
This was Kuanghu's wife, Hailis. She arrived at the entrance with a group of guards, her presence radiating authority.
"Who dares to cause trouble at my estate?" Hailis demanded, her tone sharp and unyielding. As the lady of the house, her demeanor was no less imposing than Bibi Dong's.
"We are from the Spirit Hall. Are you the one in charge now? Where is your master, Robert Kang? We have some business to settle with him," Bibi Dong said, stepping forward without a hint of fear.
"The Spirit Hall? How do I know you're really from the Spirit Hall? You could be imposters," Hailis retorted, though a flicker of unease crossed her face—something Bibi Dong noticed immediately.
"Imposters? Who would dare impersonate us?" Bi Shi said coldly, releasing his seven spirit rings.
"A Soul Sage!" Hailis and the guards paled at the sight.
"Why would the Spirit Hall suddenly come looking for us? Could it be that something has happened to A-Hu, given that he hasn't returned in over ten days?" Hailis thought, her heart sinking.
The prolonged absence of her husband had already filled her with a sense of foreboding, and the arrival of the Spirit Hall delegation only deepened her anxiety.
"So it's the esteemed members of the Spirit Hall. My apologies for not welcoming you properly. Unfortunately, my husband has been away on a trip for some time now, and I don't know when he'll return," Hailis said, forcing a polite smile despite her inner turmoil.
"Oh? And this trip of his—could it be to hunt down a talented Spirit Hall member who holds a Yellow Record Medal?" Bibi Dong said, her tone icy as she observed Hailis's reaction.
"How does she know?!" Hailis thought, her heart racing. She was well aware of her husband's mission. "Could it be that A-Hu has been captured or killed by the Spirit Hall?"
Hearing Bibi Dong's words and seeing the Soul Sage among the group, Hailis couldn't help but speculate about her husband's fate.
"Little sister, men have their own affairs. As women, we don't always know what they're up to. So, I really can't say what he's been doing."
"Perhaps you should come back when my husband returns. As for the situation you mentioned, we're unaware of it," Hailis said, maintaining her composed facade.
"So, Kuanghu really isn't here?" Bibi Dong pressed.
"Would you like to search the estate? As I said, my husband hasn't been back for over ten days," Hailis replied calmly.
"Very well. We'll wait three days. If Kuanghu doesn't show up by then, don't blame us for what happens next," Bibi Dong said before turning to leave.
Lin Yongming and the others followed suit.
"Holy Maiden, why didn't you let us search the estate?" Bi Shi asked as they walked away.
"There's no need. That woman was clearly caught off guard by our arrival, but her responses indicate that Kuanghu truly hasn't returned," Bibi Dong explained.
"It's strange. Even if Kuanghu failed to capture you, he should have returned home by now. Unless something else has delayed him or taken him elsewhere."
"Even so, he should have sent someone to inform his wife," Bibi Dong mused, turning to Lin Yongming.
"Holy Maiden, how would I know? I was injured and fled into the mountains to escape that Soul Sage. As for where he went afterward, I have no idea," Lin Yongming replied, sticking to his story of ignorance.
"Without Kuanghu here, it's difficult for us to take action. Remember, he's a Viscount of the Balak Kingdom. If we cause trouble for his family in his absence, the kingdom could use it as an excuse to challenge the Spirit Hall," Bibi Dong said, shaking her head.
"Holy Maiden, why should we fear the Balak Kingdom?" Fan He interjected.
"It's not about fear. The kingdom could use this to tarnish the Spirit Hall's reputation. If we destroy the Kang family now, it would reflect poorly on us," Bibi Dong explained.
"Fan He, shut up. The Holy Maiden's concerns are valid. Without Kuanghu here, targeting a defenseless woman would damage the Spirit Hall's image," Bi Shi chided.
As the group discussed the situation, they returned to the hotel.
Meanwhile, back at the Kang estate, Hailis leaned back on the sofa, exhausted.
"Madam, what should we do? The Spirit Hall has come knocking."
"Go to Suotuo City tonight. Find out what happened that day. If A-Hu made a move, it would have attracted attention," Hailis instructed wearily.
"Yes, Madam!"
"A-Hu, please don't let anything have happened to you," Hailis murmured, closing her eyes in worry.
