Draco Malfoy and the Magic World

Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve - Narcissa

The moment Draco took his letter I knew something was wrong. Her beautiful smile had faded and her warm gaze was overshadowed.

Lucius noticed that Draco read the letter aloud with little emotion. There was no trace of happiness or disappointment; a terrible indifference sat on his face.

Where had the boy excited to go to Hogwarts gone? Where was the child who once gave me tantrums? Or did he ask me to convince Severus to smuggle a broom? Where...

I thought he would say something else but the letter in his hands burst into flames and Draco fell unconscious, Lucius ran to catch him before he hit the ground but it was too late.

When we reached him, Lucius called him until we noticed he had no pulse.

The mansion fell into chaos, and Lucius called his primary medical wizard, Lord Valerius. He came from Transylvania, and time was against us. Draco's pale skin had turned greyish, so we called Severus.

Even he couldn't do much. My heart was beating with fear, in that large bed was my son, lying, being attended to by one of the best medical mages in the world and the youngest potionist in history. They tried to revive him, they did several spells, and even gave him potions.

Lucius and I held each other's hands tightly. Both shaking with panic and terror, if I lost my son I wouldn't know what to do.

He was the only good thing in this world. Merlin don't snatch him away from me.

Fifteen minutes passed, and Severus and Lord Valerius could only stop and look at each other helplessly.

- "I'm sorry, he dead..." -

- "No... No, not my baby," - my voice broke, Lucius held me - "No Severus, there must be another way! My baby can still live." -

- "I'm sorry Cissy, Draco..." - even Severus was affected, his always serious face had contorted with pain and despair - "We can't do anything else, Draco, he..." -

At that moment an explosion was heard in Draco's room, we opened the door, and in the center of the bed my son was receiving electric shocks, the magic was coming from himself.

Mr. Valerius ran to try to stabilize the explosions until the breath escaped his lips, my son! My baby had breathed again!

I called out to him several times, taking his face in my hands as he took another breath. His eyelids barely opened, tired and sore, a tear rolling down his cheek before he fell unconscious.

- "Valerius! Valerius, what's wrong with him? Because he has closed his eyes again." -

- "My lady must calm down," - said the old man.

- "Lucius, get her out of here! The medical wizard and I will do some tests." - Severus ordered.

- "No! Lucius, you can't separate me from my baby." - I gasped in pain, my tears soaking my face with grief and despair. I couldn't be away from Draco, what if he stopped breathing again, what if his heart stopped?

Lucius despite his discomfort and fear, forcibly removed me from the room. He grabbed me by the waist and pulled me as if I were a leech attached to our son. I saw the door close before screaming in pain.

The next few hours were eternal, I will mention that Severus and Mr. Valerius were locked in Draco's room for about three hours. Lucius and I barely spoke, we only listened to our breathing and the sound of our footsteps.

Almost nightfall, the door to Draco's room opened, and Severus and Mr. Valerius came out, looking tired.

- "You can come in, Cissy," - Severus said harshly. - "We'll talk about Draco's condition later." - I nodded silently.

I entered the room cautiously, fearing to wake my son. In bed he had his eyes closed, his breathing was calm, it's been a while since I've seen his face well.

I didn't notice the thinness of his body, nor the paleness of his face, his hair had grown to his shoulders... I sat next to him and took his hand, I felt the coldness of his skin, and my heart was beating painfully. I closed my eyes as more tears ran down my face, I leaned down and wrapped my son in my arms, I pursed my lips and felt the helplessness in my very being. It's been three months since Draco changed, his manner, his words, the sweet expressions... The boy I once knew like the back of my hand, vanished into thin air.

I cried for a while while holding my son, my thoughts still plagued by the terror of death. Fearing that my son was going to leave again, so young and innocent...

I forced myself to let go when Lucius knocked on the door.

- "Hello..."- I whisper softly. He entered slowly and closed the door softly.

I stopped looking at him and looked at the boy who was lying comfortably on the bed. Lucius himself walked around the bed and stood on his other side.

A tragic truth about their marriage is that they both did not love each other. Perhaps they developed feelings between them after several years of marriage, with Draco in the middle, Lucius did his part to make this work.

If something happened to Draco...

He closed his eyes and didn't think about anything else.

Lucius was the same as her or worse, since Draco was born. Lucius dedicated his body and soul to raising Draco, he was the child in his eyes, his greatest achievement that filled him with pride.

Lucius fearfully took Draco, picked him up, and placed him on his lap, rocking him while kissing his forehead and burying his face in the crook of his son's neck.

Lucius never cried in front of others, she knew it was because of his pride.

She had never seen her husband cry in her life. But today he saw his mask break, he saw his face hidden in the cave of his son's neck while his shoulders trembled.

Like her, Lucius had to separate himself from his son when Severus entered the room. She could see her husband's red eyes, wet cheeks, and disheveled hair.

- "Lucius, Cissy... We must talk." - he said in a stern tone.

We left the room, I turned to see my baby one last time. I didn't want to be separated from my son, I wanted to stay by his side and wait for him to wake up, but the doctor's words were important.

We went to the guest room, where Mr. Valerius was sitting in the comfortable armchair, drinking a cup of tea and making notes on a piece of parchment. His hands did not stop, even when he asked us to sit down.

- "It has been a long day for everyone," - the old man mentioned, he dropped his quill and put the parchment aside. - "But it is a miracle that Draco has come back to life, perhaps magic was on his side." -

- "Get to the point, Mr. Valerius." - I said harshly. The old man looked at me out of the corner of his eye before beginning his explanation.

- "Your son, Lady Malfoy, suffered a magical breakdown."- he explained, that he was going to ask but Mr. Valerius made a silent gesture. - "Let me explain myself and then ask the questions; sit down Severus, you need it as much as I do." - Severus sat down in the personal chair - "Where should I start... First, I will explain my diagnosis. Draco suffered a magical breakdown, due to the magical imbalance in his core." -

- "Like that..." - Lucius said in a whisper.

- "That's the strangest thing, Lucius. When checking your son, I had to repeat the exam several times, Severus himself helped me. Your son's core was almost shattered by the overload of magic. A magical burden that no child his age should have." - his eyes darkened, and a shiver ran through my body - "I had to be cautious, his son's magical defenses were up at the slightest threat, and his magic responded in defense."

- "Because Draco would have an excessive amount of magic, Pietro." -he rarely heard Mr. Valerius's name.

- "That's the mystery, Lucius," - the old man crossed his arms - "At first I didn't believe it until I checked several times and realized that your son had an excessive amount of magic. The core of children is not as active as that of an adult, the reason is because they do not know how to control magic and their bodies are immature. There are rarely children who have a regularly active core, that could apply to your child because he was born in a magical family and you usually teach him to do basic spells, even then the core would be more inactive than active, and that is due to immaturity of the child's body." -

- "which means..." -

- "Draco does not have the magical core of a child his age. He is a vessel, and that vessel is overflowing with magic, so much so that it almost explodes..." -I was scared - "I came here because of this incident, however, I cannot draw conclusions because I have not seen Draco before his... Collapse, not to mention death..." -

We both remain silent before Draco falls unconscious. .. he has already changed, he is not the same as before and he is more distant.

- "Well; was there something out of the ordinary before this happened..." -

- "Well... Yes,"- I said with fear.

I had to explain Draco's changing attitude, his manias, and his poor appetite.

- "Did you sleep more than normal?" -

- "Yeah." -

- "ate little or too much?" -

- "Yes, I ate a little." -

- "Did you faint?" -

- "... Yeah." -

- "Hmm, it's the first time I've seen magic attack its own user, but what happened to your son is very strange, even dangerous. Your core is very overloaded with magic, a good way to release it is to do exercises. When the body gets tired, it would have to be replenished with liquids and carbohydrates, something that your child would not need due to its magical overload." -

- "So what do you recommend we do?" -

- "For the moment we must control his pulse and his magical levels. After that, it would be good to integrate it into an exercise program, this way your physical condition would improve and the core would not be accumulating so much magic." -

- "When will he wake up?" -

Mr. Valerius remained silent, and I felt anxious.

- "I'm afraid I don't know that. Your son has entered a magical coma." - my hopes fell

- "But you said!" -

- "I know what I said, Lady Malfoy. But your son has entered a magical coma due to the imbalance of his magic. He has to wake up to see how to proceed. For the moment he will have to be treated with potions, the important thing is to balance his magical levels

- "Yeah." -

Mr. Valerius wrote down a recipe for potions that Draco was to take. Severus himself would be in charge of preparing each one of them, now everything depended on Draco. Whether he woke up or not was not our decision.

So a week passed, and my son was still bedridden. Lucius himself was sloppy in his work, I know because I saw a mountain of papers piled up on his desk.

Draco's magic levels were still high, the imbalance in him was alarming. Mr. Valerius said that if he continued like this he could cause brain damage or worse still, damage his nerves, or in the worst-case scenario he would become a squid due to the cracks in his core.

And this all started with that damn letter. When Draco took his letter from Hogwarts he fainted, lost his life, and then came back to never wake up. She was sure that what Draco felt at that moment was not happiness, but terrible unhappiness, his face cold, his eyes emotionless, and the letter burning in flames...

I had mentioned my thoughts to Lucius, and he himself seemed to reflect on it, we even thought that perhaps Draco didn't want to go. But was it necessary for him to react like this, or for him to magically collapse?

It was almost the ninth day, and Draco still hadn't woken up.

He had lost his appetite. Mr. Valerius came to see Draco every other day, but he still wasn't stable...

Every time we entered Draco's room we could see a series of lightning bolts, sometimes they were there harmlessly, and other times they seemed to be in chaos.

- "When are you going to wake up?" - I asked tiredly.

- "You don't know." -

- "Maybe we should look for another medical wizard. Mr. Valerius so far tells us to wait, we have spent a considerable sum of money to prepare those potions, and yet! he still doesn't wake up!" -

- "You shouldn't despair, Cissy." -

- "Lucius!" -

- "No, we cannot call another medical wizard. Cissy think, what would happen if another medical wizard sees him and tells us the same thing? It would be another expense, for your services and medications." -

- "You don't understand, Lucius. What if there is another way to wake him up?! What if he actually has brain damage and that's why he's asleep?! Until now we have followed Mr. Valerius's instructions to the letter." -

- "Still, you should not judge Mr. Valerius by his abilities." -

- "We can hire another medical wizard!" -

- "No!" -

- "You are doing it to take care of your image, right?! That's why you don't want me to call another medical wizard!" -

- "Cissy, you're talking nonsense!" -

- "It's not nonsense! Our son died and then came back to life! We need another professional point of view! Mr. Valerius is not the only professional in the world!" -

- "Cissy, please. React–" -

- "No! You must react! Our son is sleeping, and who knows if he's really okay or dying!" -

I had the worst fight of my marriage, nine days! Nine damn days that Draco doesn't wake up! Lord Valerius says we need to stabilize him but his magic levels are not stabilizing. They are always high and my baby's room is a magical chaos.

I thought I wouldn't wake up again until...

- "Teacher! The young master! The young master!" -

It was on the fifteenth day that Draco woke up. I had cut off all communication with Lucius since the day we fought, he even went to sleep in the guest room so as not to cross paths with me.

I ran down the hallway, and when I turned I saw Lucius enter Draco's room in a hurry. Many emotions crossed his face, worry, excitement, relief, sadness, despair.

We were both chaos...

When I entered I saw my son, awake, looking everywhere. The lightning bolts did not envelop my son, they had disappeared, his face was thinner, his chin sharper and his cheekbones higher.

- "Who are you?" -

- "Draco?" - my heart broke
