Chapter 73: Perfect Cell Max!
Boom! Boom! Boom!
A chain of explosions erupted from below.
The brutal battle raging on the lower deck of the spaceship didn't seem to interest King Cold in the slightest. A cruel smile curved at the corner of his lips as he raised his hand.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh!
Dozens of energy blasts tore through the air, heading straight for everyone on the upper deck!
Bulma was the first to react, instantly throwing up a protective barrier. She also shoved a certain frog-like creature into her arms without hesitation.
Levos froze as he saw the incoming barrage, his whole body tensing. "Savage!" he muttered under his breath.
But just then, several figures shot up from the lower level and intercepted the blasts mid-air.
"Babidi isn't in the ship!" Goku said grimly.
RUMBLE.
The entire spaceship shook violently.
King Cold's expression turned serious. With a sudden burst of power, he blasted through the ceiling and vanished.
"Damn it! Frieza's going to blow up the whole ship!" Goku's eyes sharpened. "I'll hold off the shockwave. You all get everyone out, now!"
Catching a glimpse of the sky beyond, the Z Fighters let out a brief sigh of relief. They immediately scattered through the panicking crowd, rescuing the other participants and flying them to safety. Frieza's troops, meanwhile, were fleeing in every direction.
Bulma emerged carrying a young woman.
"Thank you! I'm Videl."
"No problem," Bulma replied coolly before scanning the crowd for familiar faces.
Seeing everyone safe, she let out a small breath of relief.
VMMM.
As the last person escaped the ship, a towering pillar of fire erupted from its hull.
Those nearby felt the heat scorching their skin, even singing their hair.
"Mr. Goku!" Trunks shouted.
But his call was drowned out by a far more terrifying explosion.
Babidi's spaceship was utterly destroyed from the inside out.
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Two figures shot into the sky.
"Frieza! Next time you try to slaughter innocents, I won't hold back!" Goku growled.
"Ohohoho..." Frieza narrowed his eyes. "Son Goku, did you really think that agreeing to cooperate meant I'd stop being evil?"
"You bastard..." Goku clenched his teeth.
Just as the tension boiled over and the two were about to go head-to-head.
A massive pillar of violet light shot into the sky, plunging the heavens into eerie darkness.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh!
All the warriors instantly flew toward the source.
Moments later, they arrived at the scene West City.
Or rather, where West City used to be.
It had been completely erased from the face of the Earth, replaced by an unfathomably huge crater.
At the crater's center stood a towering figure, frowning as he stared into a seething lake of magma.
His skin was crimson red, his body covered in a chitinous exoskeleton tougher than steel, and a massive spiked tail swayed behind him like a wrecking ball. The sheer presence of the creature radiated overwhelming intimidation.
His entire body pulsed with volatile, terrifying energy. The flickering firelight cast shifting shadows across his face.
"This power..." he muttered, gazing at his own hands as if in disbelief. "This power... this is the power to rule the entire universe! Hahaha...!"
Levos's heart pounded wildly at the sight. A terrible premonition welled up inside him.
Goku's eyes went wide. "That ki... it's different from the Cell Max we saw before..."
Frieza's expression twitched. "This monster... he's developed consciousness?!"
The mindless Cell Max had already possessed the strength to crush Frieza outright.
But now, what stood before them was a thinking Cell Max.
The idea alone was horrifying.
"Kehehehehehe..." The massive creature let out a strange, guttural laugh. He slowly lifted his gaze toward a distant point, hunger gleaming in his eyes.
Everyone turned to look.
There, a figure was wildly firing energy blasts in every direction, screaming incoherently.
"RAAAHHH! HOOORAAA!!"
Bulma's eyes widened in shock. She murmured, "Levos... no way..."
Watching that crazed figure unleash uncontrollable energy, she instantly understood.
"It must be... Captain Ginyu switched bodies with Cell Max," Levos said, eyes narrowing.
The mind-control device had a limited range. Bulma immediately pulled out a small remote and sent it flying toward Levos's original body.
Frieza overheard the exchange and frowned.
He flew straight toward Cell Max. "Captain Ginyu, well done!"
But when the monster turned its head, Frieza recoiled in shock.
On Ginyu's forehead blazed a black, ominous "M" symbol.
"My Lord, watch out! Ginyu's been controlled by Babidi!" Levos shouted.
"Frieza... sama..." Ginyu muttered.
Then his expression twisted as his mind was overwhelmed. Clutching his head, he roared, "I will always be Frieza-sama's most loyal soldier!"
With that final shout, a world-shattering surge of energy erupted from Ginyu's monstrous body.
BOOM.
"D-Damn it!!" Frieza exclaimed, disbelief etched across his face.
Even as he poured all his energy into resisting the blast, he was overwhelmed, his body slammed into the lake of magma below.
Molten rock surged upward, swallowing him whole.
Then… silence.
Ginyu, still in Cell Max's body, glanced toward the warriors at the edge of the battlefield, but didn't attack.
Instead, he shot toward Levos's frog form.
Swoosh!
In an instant, he cut off Bulma's path to the original body.
The monstrous tail, like a blooming flower, unfurled and swallowed Levos whole.
It was over.
Darkness engulfed Levos's senses.
Bulma's eyes welled with tears as she watched helplessly, her voice breaking with grief.
The tail slowly closed around the captured body, the frog's form squirming and bouncing inside before vanishing completely into Ginyu's body.
Then, Ginyu raised his head.
A wicked, deranged smile stretched across his grotesque face one that carried both bloodlust and satisfaction.
His facial features began to twist and reshape, gradually shifting toward a more humanoid appearance tinged with savage wildness.
His muscular frame also changed, adopting a more symmetrical, aesthetically pleasing structure. Slowly turning his massive body, he now exuded an overwhelming aura of death and power.
At that moment, Levos saw the face clearly.
It was sharp, cold, and strangely familiar a near-match to his own.
That face... was Perfect Cell?!
Levos's pupils constricted. He shouted with all his might, "Bulma! Run!"
It finally clicked.
Cell Max's body, when first created, hadn't reached its final form.
It was only the starting point of its evolution.
Now, after absorbing Levos's original body, Ginyu still wasn't satisfied.
Which meant he was still evolving.
The true final form of Cell Max... was only just beginning.
