Chapter 139 My bad
"Uhm..." Luna mumbled like usual, but she was clearly taken aback by Uriel's appearance. She was wearing an oversized hoodie and black pants but, contrary to Uriel's ragged clothes, they were obviously new.
"Hi!" Uriel greeted her with a smile. "The place is ours... well, it's technically mine, but you know what I mean."
"So you did receive the money." Luna nodded knowingly. "Why are you still looking like a beggar?"
Uriel was more or less accustomed to her 'honesty', but her words still hurt him and he tried his best to hold on to his smile.
"Anyway, so what brings you here?"
"I came to collect my share."
"Your share?" Uriel's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"
"Uhm... When Sam and I went to the cryptid agency, they told us they would transfer all the money to the party leader, so..."
Uriel's face went pale, he wrongfully assumed the money he received came from the Mapple corp and spent most of it. All he had left was roughly 40k credits which, admittedly, was a great sum but nowhere near an equal share.
"About that... well... I thought... I-" Uriel couldn't get himself to confess his wrongdoing. It was a stupid mistake, but he didn't even consider asking beforehand.
"You spent it... that is... not good. Bad Uriel." Luna said, apparently unfazed. It may have seem impossible to know her true feelings, if not for the sound of her fists clenching.
"I didn't think it was meant for everyone, I honestly thought It was payment from the Chichén Itzá expedition." Uriel replied as he braced himself to be nagged at, though Luna didn't say anything. "I can pay you back... I just need some time."
"It's pointless, without that money I'll be homeless."
"What!? Didn't you say you were the top of your class, how come you don't have a scholarship?"
"I do, but I had a fight with my sister and I can't go back to the female dorms."
Uriel pondered for a few seconds, but then he came up with a solution.
"Then, why don't you stay here? I said it already, but this place is meant for all of us."
"Uh... but... you're a boy and I'm a girl. It's not right for us to live together."
"I'm not saying we should sleep on the same bed, you'll get your own room. Just what goes inside your mind!?"
"If you do something weird I'll call my sister..."
"I won't! It's not like I'm..."
"She will kill you."
The reason why Luna couldn't live in the female dormitory anymore was because she had an argument with her sister precisely over Uriel. Because of the precious misunderstanding with the love letter, Cassandra assumed Uriel was now her sister's boyfriend and she couldn't allow something like that.
In Cassandra's eyes, Uriel was a worthless slum rat who didn't deserve the attention from her cute little sister. This meant that Luna's threats of Cassandra killing Uriel if she found out something like that weren't empty.
"Agreed." Uriel nodded after realizing that he had no choice. After all, he made a mistake and needed to take responsibility for his own actions.
Thanks to the new furniture and home appliances, the second floor of the old factory looked like an apartment building and it was quite comfortable. If anything, the only issue that could cause problems was that there was only one bathroom on the second floor, but there was nothing they could do about it for the time being.
At night, Uriel went to bed early as he wanted to enjoy his new furniture. His room was furnished and decorated to his liking, even though it was a bit on the modest side. His bed was comfortable and he now had an entire closet filled with new clothes.
Life was good.
Just as he was about to fall asleep, an eerie sensation, the ominous feeling of someone staring at him from somewhere he couldn't pinpoint kept him awake.
"What are you doing here? Let me sleep" Uriel grunted.
"Ok, first, how did you know I was here? I didn't make a sound and... nevermind." Nika shook her head in the darkness. "Your friend is crying."
"What!?" Uriel darted towards Luna's bedroom and knocked on the door. "Luna, are you ok?"
The sound of a chain sliding across the track and several steel deadbolts and locks opening echoed in the silence of the night as Luna unlocked the door to her room. It could be said that she was taking too many precautions, but she was wary of Uriel because of all the things her sister told her about 'bad' men like Uriel.
She opened the door just enough to peek through it with one eye, but her light was on and Uriel was able to catch a glimpse of her cute pink pajama. Because of her short stature and childish face, she looked just like a scared child.
"I- uhm... am ok, I just have problems getting accustomed to new environments. Last time I had Medusa by my side and now..."
"Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?"
"Do you have 95k credits?" Luna replied unblinkingly.
"No, but... open your door a bit more."
For a short while Luna pondered on whether she made the right decision or not by coming to live with a man. She thought that maybe Cassandra was right and he was just a pervert trying to take advantage of her and she might have made a mistake by leaving the female dormitory where she was safe.
But all of that changed when Uriel showed the plush toy he bought from the souvenir shop and showed it to her.
"This is for you." He said pushing it through the small gap in the door.
Luna looked at the 'cute' cryptid rabbit plush toy and a weird grin that resembled a smile appeared on her face.
"So damn cute! I want to hug her so bad!" Nika exclaimed from behind Uriel startling both of them.
Without so much as a thank you, Luna shut the door to her room and went to bed. This time falling into a peaceful slumber while hugging the 'cute' but creepy horned rabbit plushie.
