DxD : kuoh’s Hidden Star

Chapter 8: Chapter 8 The Crimson Omen

—He could feel "them. " Now, of all times, he suddenly began to "feel" the presence of various creatures that surrounded the area.

Not only could he finally feel all of the monstrous beings that surrounded him, but even more than that, he could feel the floating people too. He could feel those mysterious, floating people, emerging from the sky.

Many of the floating people began descending quickly towards the ground, different groups flying off in different directions.

Most of all, Issei could tell that these flying people were likely heading in the direction of the various beasts scattered throughout Kuoh. Like a fleet or a legion, they were in groups, flying in separate directions, hunting different monsters, presumably.

Issei also noticed that the largest group was sent in the direction that Issei was previously in. Those flying people were headed towards the giant, white one with red eyes…

—A dark, incomprehensible feeling wrapped around Issei like a blanket. It was unlike any feeling he experienced before.

. .

Was it anger or. .

?

'Ddraig. .

. Are.

. .

these the people who did this to us?'

[Control yourself, partner. You may indeed be a child, but regardless of that, the Boosted Gear has just been unlocked at near full capacity.

Your body, no matter how small, will release pressure in response to strong emotions. Whether or not your body will maintain itself after releasing that pressure is the issue.

And I'm not confident that it will. That's why, you must stop.

]

'. .

. Ddraig? Who are these people? Why do they fly? Why do they have.

. .

wings? What…are they?'

Issei questioned Ddraig worriedly. Ddraig's response indicated a slight, lingering disgust.

[—Devils. ]

There was once a time when Issei's best friend, Rin, had warned him of such existences. Something called "Devils" or "evil spirits," beings who "robbed the souls of innocent.

" Those who insulted the name of "The Lord" simply by existing. Those who "wreaked havoc" and "disgraced the holy teachings"…

These were those same beings? They were real after all?

[Devils. .

. What meddlesome little creatures.

Our situation truly is a disadvantageous one indeed. ]

Issei looked around the sky. Most of the "Devils" that had populated it were now no longer in sight.

They must have scattered around and went to the monsters. —No.

That wasn't the problem. The problem was that he knew they were now all around him, just like the beasts themselves.

Not to mention…

'Ddraig…. Those ones in the sky….

. Those are….

'

[Your assumption is correct. Those four figures that you see are indeed the most powerful amongst these creatures.

They seem to be surveying the landscape and providing intelligence or relaying commands. I'm certain even a child like yourself can feel the pressure they emit, even from this distance.

Amongst Devils, even they are "monsters. "]

". .

. Monsters.

. .

"

Whilst looking up at the night's sky, Issei could see those 4 figures congregated together with the shape of the moon silhouetting their bodies. Each of those four appeared a different color.

One red, one green, one purple, and one pink. And, of course, amongst those 4, it was the red one that captured Issei's attention.

The one that he couldn't remove his eyes from.

—No, it wasn't "red. " It was a different shade.

It was crimson. Yes, a crimson mane of hair.

. .

flowing freely due to the breeze of the night's sky, glistening against the backdrop of the moonlight. .

'. .

. What happens if one of those "monsters" finds me?.

. .

'

[You would perish within an instant. No resistance you could manage would reach them, even in your dreams.

I daresay there are a few amongst that group that would have relatively no trouble dealing with that large beast you encountered before. ]

(—?!)

'I. .

. I can't handle this, Ddraig.

. .

'

[You will die should you refuse to. And along with you, your family.

]

MAAAAAAAAAAWW!

A loud roar interrupted the communication between Issei and Ddraig. That was close by.

It was only when Issei looked ahead of himself that he noticed a few shadows appear above the rooftops of some random houses.

Then, the sound of something being pierced, followed by a painful howl.

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!

Suddenly, the large body of a beast crashed down in the street in front of him.

'. .

?! Wha—?! It's dead!? What did—! W-What even is that thing?!'

[That is a manticore. .

. Wait, watch out.

They're approaching our location. Do not move.

]

Issei placed a hand sternly over his mouth in order to silence himself. Multiple figures landed near the corpse of the beast that had struck the ground.

Three figures, to be exact.

It was them, the Devils.

The trio of Devils stood around the corpse and began speaking to one another. They were speaking in Japanese.

"How many have they identified?"

"Unknown. As it currently stands, they have only been able to spot around fifty or more [Magical Beasts] in total.

They seem to be evenly spread throughout the entire town. "

"Dammit! This is chaos! How could this have happened?. .

I've never heard of such an event taking place! How is it possible that someone could transport this many magical beasts of this caliber to one place?! Even the [White Whale] is here! This is madness! Had it not been for the [Maou-sama] sealing this place off from the rest of the world, surely some catastrophic incident on a far larger scale would have taken place! Not to mention, it's our homeland of Japan! If this had been Sapporo, I might've lost it. .

. "

Issei was confused by all of the unrecognizable terms and vocabulary that the "Devils" were using.

'. .

What?. .

What are they talking about? They killed he monster and now they are sounding. .

. worried? Did…they not do all of this?.

. .

And the other one said Sapporo. .

. He called it his homeland.

. ? But that's not possible for monsters.
