Eclipse of Fate

Chapter 18: Secrets Beneath Veythar

Raine and Aldric exchanged a glance before stepping forward, following Headmaster Alden Mordain into the hidden passage. The stone steps spiraled downward, the air growing colder with each step. The flickering glow of enchanted lanterns lined the walls, casting eerie shadows that seemed to stretch and twist in unnatural ways.

"This academy was not built simply as a place of learning," Mordain said, his voice echoing through the underground corridor. "It was founded to guard knowledge—knowledge that could reshape the world."

Raine's fingers brushed against the hilt of his sword. The weight of his own lineage and the secrets surrounding the Eclipse Prophecy made him wary of what lay ahead. Aldric, walking beside him, remained silent, his usual smirk replaced with a look of contemplation.

Finally, they reached a vast underground chamber. The ceiling arched high above, supported by massive pillars etched with ancient runes. In the center of the room stood a circular stone platform, engraved with markings that pulsed with a faint, silver light.

Mordain stepped onto the platform and turned to face them. "This place holds records that even the most powerful noble houses are unaware of. The Eclipse Prophecy is more than just a legend—it is a warning."

Aldric crossed his arms. "Then why keep it hidden? If it's so important, shouldn't the world know?"

Mordain's gaze hardened. "Because prophecies are dangerous. They create expectations, shape destinies, and invite war. There are those who would seek to twist its meaning for their own ends. That is why we must tread carefully."

Raine's thoughts drifted to Selene Veymar's cryptic words. She had spoken of forces beyond the academy's walls. Were they tied to this prophecy as well?

The headmaster gestured toward the inscriptions on the floor. "These writings tell of an individual who will stand at the heart of a great upheaval. Some believe they will bring salvation. Others, ruin. But there is one truth that remains: the Eclipse Harbinger will shake the foundations of Vaeloria."

A chill ran down Raine's spine.

Mordain exhaled, his expression unreadable. "And now, you must decide how much of this knowledge you are willing to bear. Because from this moment forward, there is no turning back."

As his words settled, a distant tremor rumbled through the chamber—faint, but undeniable. Something, or someone, was stirring in the depths of the academy.
