Emberfall Chronicles

Chapter 23: The Return of the Black Knight

The air trembled as a powerful presence descended upon the battlefield. The chaos in A1 City intensified as Anil, now consumed by the dark energy, stood in the center of the ruined arena. His aura was no longer his own—twisted, corrupted, and overflowing with an unnatural force. The Strays emerging from the ground screeched as the sky turned completely black, and the Noble Family's soldiers clashed against the monstrous entities.

Suddenly, a swift shadow appeared, moving faster than anyone could react. With a powerful kick, the newcomer struck Anil in the chest, sending him flying backward. The impact cracked the stone beneath him.

"Enough," the figure said, his voice deep and commanding.

Gasps spread through the battlefield as warriors recognized him—The Black Knight.

Anil roared, his voice layered with something inhuman. The dark energy inside him surged as he gripped his sword, slashing the air. The ground shattered instantly, splitting the arena in half.

The legendary wanted criminal, Dark Blue 67, smirked from the sidelines, watching the battle unfold. "Looks like he's completely lost control," he muttered. "This is getting interesting."

The Black Knight extended his hand and began chanting in Japanese, his voice steady and powerful:

「黒き影よ,縛りつけよ!」

(Kuroki kage yo, shibaritsuke yo! — Dark shadow, bind him!)

A surge of binding energy erupted from his palm, forming chains of glowing red and black energy that wrapped around Anil's body. The dark aura inside Anil convulsed, fighting back against the spell.

But before the Black Knight could fully purify him, Dark Blue 67 appeared behind him in an instant.

"That's enough," he said, smirking.

With a single palm strike, he sent the Black Knight skidding backward, disrupting the spell. Anil, still consumed by the dark force, screamed in agony, his power spiraling out of control.

At that moment, a new figure stepped onto the battlefield. A man wearing ornate white armor with golden embroidery, radiating an overwhelming presence.

One of the noble family's strongest warriors had arrived.

As he locked eyes with Anil, he spoke coldly, "You have lost yourself. Now, I will put an end to this."

In a flash, he moved. Anil's sword clashed with his in a violent explosion of force, but the noble warrior was faster. With a single precise strike, he sliced through Anil's shoulder.

Blood sprayed across the broken arena.

Anil staggered, but instead of pain, he laughed. His voice echoed strangely as dark symbols appeared on his skin, his energy spiking again.

"This… isn't just Anil anymore," Dark Blue 67 whispered, intrigued.

The ground erupted as even more Strays emerged, overwhelming the battlefield.

The Noble Family's elite soldiers and A1 City's military rushed in, clashing against the growing number of Strays in an all-out battle.

As the chaos unfolded, a terrifying truth became clear—Anil was no longer just himself. He was possessed by something far worse.

The Black Knight clenched his fists, realizing that this battle was no longer just about stopping Anil.

It was about survival.
