Chapter 43: Ch 43 Fishman horde
On Galileo's ship, Yuno the only one who preferred to stay behind was training on the deck. He practiced his swordplay in anticipation of his next rematch with Asta. The others promised to bring him back lots of good food, so he was more than fine with waiting, plus it was one of the few times he had quiet. His swordplay flowed swiftly and smoothly as if it were the wind itself. As he started to lose himself in his motions, he heard a loud crash from below deck. "…(What are those extras doing now?)" Irritated at the disturbance caused by Galileo's hired help he floated below deck to see the problem. Following the noise to the food storage room he found all of the workers laid out across the floor. All of the barrels and containers were smashed open and empty "What the- who did this?" He asked one of them.
"We-we couldn't save the food…" was all he said before passing out.
"What? What happened to the food!?" Yuno got no response, instead the sound of rummaging at the back of the room caught his attention. Sword in hand he slowly crept to the back of the room (although he was crouching, he never actually touched the floor). When he reached the back and swept aside a few more crates he noticed someone was hiding inside of one. One slash and the crate split open revealing a little girl. It was none other than Galileo's favorite little cousin "Mimosa? Why are you here…and where's all the food?"
"I-I didn't-we – it was-waaaah" She couldn't come up with a good way to explain herself, so she panicked and cried.
"It's not that serious…just tell me what's going on..."
She wiped her face on a handkerchief from Yuno and composed herself enough to speak"… Ch- Charmy wanted to steal the tacos . I tried to stop her, but I only saw a sheep and woke up here…"
"The girl from the food war?"
"Yes. She didn't want to get caught so we hid down here. When some of the workers noticed food going missing, she knocked them out too. Galileo is going to have a big tantrum when he finds out…"
"(You of all people have the least reason to be scared of him). Don't worry about it. Where is she now?" Mimosa pointed and behind him as a giant sheep appeared. It stood up on its hind legs and threw a heavy punch that smashed straight through the wall. Yuno grabbed Mimosa and dodged the attack fairly easily, however the sheep was relentless. Yuno was able to parry or dodge all of its attacks, but there was no loss of momentum. Yuno even severed its limbs several times to have them quickly rebuilt with cotton magic. "(This is getting annoying.)" Yuno stepped back and darkness spread out across the room as he and Mimosa vanished to thin air. The confused sheep monster looked around but could find no one. From behind Yuno hit the sheep monster with a palm thrust of concentrated wind and blasted Charmy clean out of the wool. She tumbled across the floor sprawled out in a dizzy mess.
"Foooood…." Was all she said.
"Is she ok?" Mimosa asked worried about their attacker.
Yuno produced a box lunch Galileo made from his storage ring and Charmy sprung back to life with one whiff. Before they even knew what happened she was sitting happily in a corner chowing down. "I think she's fine." As they settled down the whole ship was rocked. "What now?" The three of them made their way up to the deck to see a large number of fishmen boarding the ship. As soon as the fishmen saw them they attacked in full force. "Now I don't have to hold back" drawing his sword again. He met the foes head on slashing them all down before they could even know what happened. He was still not satisfied with his earlier sword practice, so he chose to use only his swordsmanship.
"I'll help too!" Fed and back to her senses Charmy was ready to fight. Not to mention Yuno gave her one of the only meals she'd ever had on par with that of the food war, so she held him in high regard now. Grimoire ready the giant sheep followed Yuno bashing nearby enemies. She provided a seamless protection and her counters sent foes flying.
Watching them fight helped fire Mimosa up "I can help fight! I'm stronger now too!" Her demon plant techniques had improved even faster with the tutorial in nature energy from Kurama. Creating a lovely black rose, it grew into a full-sized thorny whip. Each lash hit multiple enemies as if the whip had a mind of its own, draining their life force while adding to her magic reserve.

Meraleona and Lion-O had their special lunch disrupted by fishmen smashing into the restaurant they were eating at. Their meal was collateral damage in the initial impact.
"What's the big idea!? Who's looking to die!?" Golden flames melted the rest of the room as they grew with Meraleona's anger. The civilians immediately poured out as the enemy entered.
"I don't know, but they look fishy. Can we eat them?" Lion-O asked as black lightning danced around him.
"I don't know if I want to…" she gave him an awkward side glance "you gonna fight cat?"
"I'm a Vermillion, aren't I?" He flew off and headbutted someone full speed with haki coated horns.
"Hahahaha! We've taught you well!" She went to work roasting several foes with every punch. Her flames were so hot the Heart mages who came to assist had to keep their distance and chose to pick off stragglers. Some of the stronger fishmen started to manipulate the abundance of nearby water with their martial arts. "Fishman Karate is real? It looks a lot more interesting than that crap Gali tried to do." She says thinking back to Galileo trying to invent a sloppy looking martial art. Unbeknown to her fictional martial arts are something he can't buy in the system "… Alright fish! Show me what you got!!!" She charged in laughing wildly.
Three fishmen performed a karate punch in unison creating a great current that smashed into a burning gold fist. With another push Meraleona broke through, her second punch connected and turned one of them into a bright gold comet hurtling down the road. Lolopechka's water magic barely stopped it before too much damage was caused to their surroundings. Squads on either side of her gathered water on their hands and threw the droplets like bullets, with nowhere to go the lioness laughed and poured out such extreme heat every attack evaporated. To counter the growing column of fire many of them grabbed the air at once and made a motion as if throwing air at her. All of the nearby water and moisture in the air crashed down on Meraleona like a tsunami. Crushed at the center of many raging water currents going every which way Meraleona was enjoying herself "Gulb glub glub! (Mana zone: Corona!)" A surge of magic went out creating a dome of heat around the battlefield. Under a glorious golden glow, the entire area was instantly deprived of all moisture as Meraleona stood tall. "You entertained me a little bit now burn! Lioness' Nova Noblis!" All throughout her mana zone the ground ruptured with columns of golden fire igniting her foes round about, until combining into a massive pillar of fire that erased her enemies.
t/n: Nova Noblis is latin for Noble Nova
"Yeah we showed them!" Lion-O returned to her side triumphantly.
"Where were you?"
"I was fighting at first it but got too hot, so I went to watch over there. I'll help more next time."
"Heh it looks like you'll get your chance already." Crawling out of the water was a massive fishman standing at least four meters tall. He had eight arms, slippery orange skin and a long pointed head with fins running down the sides.
"A squid?"
"A big one."

Derieri and Yomi had defeated many fishmen while defending the citizens elsewhere in the city. The two demons combined efforts were seemingly invincible to the opposition. Despite their different styles, the ever-calm Yomi and the wild destructive Derriere somehow complimented each other very well. Derieri's combo star never got passed twenty as her overwhelming power turned her foes to meat paste. Yomi on the other hand reduced foes to dust as he fired volley's of green demonic energy, not a single one missing their mark.
"Strange I had taken the fishmen to be a more intelligent race…they don't show any semblance of thought or emotion. They just fight until they die."
"Taking it from the ass, something is wrong with them?"
"I believe so. They could be being controlled somehow, but I doubt they'll just answer our questions. We'll have to investigate later, for now our priority is the protection of the citizens."
"Yeah." Side by side the two get ready to face more incoming foes.
........................................
Galileo, Lumiette, Gaian, Gadjah and several more mages were defending the palace. The biggest concentration of enemies was here, and many tough foes were among them. However, the Vermillions and Heart kingdom mages gladly rose to the challenge. Everyone but Galileo it seemed; his attacks lacked their usual enthusiasm. He knocked foes out but there were very few over the top explosions or overpowered attacks. He hadn't even issued a single death threat since they started. The onlooking Heart people were surprised to see the tiny terror wasn't as destructive as rumors suggested. Lumiette could see something was bothering him but she didn't know what… It was as if he felt guilty. "(Why is this happening? I thought we'd be friends when we finally met the fish people…Jinbe is super cool so wouldn't his followers be too? Why are they acting like mindless bots? This isn't what I wanted at all!)" The more he racked his brain the less he focused on fighting. It should be noted Jinbe is the One Piece character he respects most, after Whitebeard.
"Gali my love? What's bothering you?"
"I don't get what's going on…this wasn't what I pictured…"
"What do you mean?"
"Why are we killing the fishmen? I know they aren't evil. Even Hody had his reasons in the end…"
"Hody?"
"Never mind it right now."
"GALIIII! Lumieeette!" Leopold blasted through the crowd of enemies to report in on his battle with the Warlord crew.
"What'd you find out?"
"I didn't find much, but apparently some group called BW is trying to take over the kingdom. Also they were going to unleash some new weapons, something about masks I think. They were surprisingly tight lipped so I could only beat so much out of them. They never gave me the name of their leader, but everyone at the hideout was taken care of at least."
"Baroque Works maybe? Has to be… Jinbe and Crocodile?"
"STOOOOOP!" A man's voice cried out loud for the whole Kingdom to hear. Everyone was startled by the sudden arrival. Even the mindless fishmen seemed to obey the call as well halting their attacks. There was a feeling of anguish radiating from him as his conqueror's haki was let loose. A heavy weight bore down, a pressure so great even Galileo felt it a little difficult to breathe. The weaker bystanders found themselves being knocked out foaming at the mouth. "My people…my brethren…WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!?!"
"Conqueror's haki?! I've never knew it could feel so depressing."
The source of the shout, a whale shark fishman. Had a big round stocky body and blue skin. His face resembled that of an oni, with the severe underbite, yellow swirling eyebrows and sideburns, big fangs sticking out from his lower jaw, and bulbous nose. His long wavy black hair was tied into a top ponytail while the rest was allowed to flow freely over his dorsal fin on his upper back. He wore a red kimono and cape open at the chest to reveal the top half of a red sun tattoo, the mark of the sun pirates. The man stood on a high rooftop that gave him a vantage point of the capital. Everyone could see him as well. This massive fishman filled with sorrow and anger stared dejectedly at the corpses littering the Heart Kingdom. Thirty or so more elite fishmen warriors accompanied him as his personal crew.
"That's Jinbe, first son of the sea! One of the seven warlord's!"
"He's brought reinforcements! Why now!"
The huge figure jumped down, smashing the ground below with his fist blowing away all the nearby Heart mages. His squad was not far behind leaping after him. The many fishman/merfolk corpses they saw fueled their rage and they made quick work every human who was willing to fight. The fishman karate they used was beyond that any of the previously displayed attacks, but Jinbe's was in a class all by itself. His hundred brick fist made a shockwave so strong the paved ground was torn up and buildings in front of him were smashed to bits. His water pistol pierced through any defense that tried to stop it. "I'LL SINK THIS ENTIRE KINGDOM BENEATH THE WAVES!" Cupping his hands together water rapidly pooled in from all around him. In seconds there was enough water condensed in his hands to wash away at the very least the surrounding area, including the palace. Lolopechka noticed she could not take what he had gathered from him, but she tried to stifle his supply by moving the surrounding waters away. Gadjah moved to stop him but Galileo got in the way.
"Vermillion what are you doing?!" Galileo didn't answer but walked towards the enraged whale shark.
"Seven seas current lifter!" Jinbe threw up the water in his hands, it all spiraled into massive torrents going every which way.
Before it could hit anything Galileo lept straight into a current "Flash freeze." He spit a stream of black water focused by cold golden winds into a freezing black and gold beam, freezing Jinbei's attack on contact. Now a strange black Ice sculpture sat in the middle of the plaza. It gave off an otherworldly feeling that made people back away subconsciously in fear. Having stolen the show, Galileo let his own conqueror's haki oppose Jinbe's.
"Who might you be?" Jinbe stepped forward to face the one who stopped his attack. Their faceoff created a tension that silenced the whole battlefield.
