“Focus, restraint, vigilance.” He warned.

She protected her dao heart and utilized her merit laws at the same time, entering the best possible state.

“Try now, be careful.” He smiled.

She became nervous due to his repeated warnings. How dangerous could this liquid be?

She was a heaven-slayer who could withstand apocalyptic attacks. At the very least, she would be able to last for quite a while. Moreover, a cultivator of her stature was no stranger to pain either.

She survived numerous battles and wounds so she doubted this could best her. Nevertheless, she still exercised prudence, slowly moving one hand toward the liquid for minimum exposure.

“Ahh!” She screamed immediately because the slightest touch obliterated her finger. Moreover, it continued to spread throughout her body but was stopped by Li Qiye’s primordial light.

Her face twisted as she screamed, feeling as if her true fate had just been pierced by the sharpest sword. It pierced her dao heart as well, crushing her will.

“Ahh!” She gritted her teeth but couldn’t stop screaming. She immediately sat in the meditative position and used her dao power to stop the pain, channeling chaos true energy to heal the damaged true fate.

Unfortunately, this energy could bring back flesh and bones but didn’t help with the mental pain. Her will to resist the pain was swiftly shut down.

This resembled a grievous wound in the mortal world. No ointment or medicine could reduce the pain, only the mind.

She felt her true fate being sliced into pieces. Each cut permeated and could be felt clearly, eventually causing her to lose consciousness.

This reprieve didn’t last long since the pain woke her up again. Whenever she mustered the will to resist with her dao heart, the pain always won. She wanted to die but couldn’t.

After enough waves, her mind became empty and the pain dispersed while she was in the fetal position on the ground.

This brought a whole new meaning to the word, “pain”. Nothing she had experienced previously was worth mentioning. It tortured the mind, killing it and bringing it back to life in an unending cycle.

After a long while, she finally woke up and trembled in horror. Her true fate still hasn’t recovered.

“Still want to try?” Li Qiye who had no issue with the liquid asked.

Her body instinctively retreated and twitched. Although she actively wanted to muster more courage, her body and true fate didn’t obey.

She gritted her teeth hard enough to nearly break them. It took some time before she stabilized her dao heart.

She stared at the pond again. Her will was ready but not the rest of her being. More preparation was necessary for another attempt.

“Your finger will require more time before growing back.” Li Qiye said.

She glanced at the missing finger and smiled wryly. In the past when half of her body was destroyed, she could still grow it back in an instant.

“The next time you try, the agony and destruction will be far greater.” Li Qiye said.

She unwittingly moved back again, still afraid of the pain.

“As you can see now, your progenitor was virtually dead twice, once as an emperor and once as a progenitor. The additional suffering during her life helped her start the experiment with this pond. Of course, she wasn’t as lucky as you. Just one mistake would have ended her, not just losing one finger or a body part.” Li Qiye said.

She fell into silence before remarking: “Countless trials of destruction.”

Now, she understood why Li Qiye mentioned the echoes of her progenitor’s lamentation. Her pain earlier was only the beginning of the progenitor’s experience.
