Chapter 446: The Heavily Defended Stadium
The actions of the two prominent figures in Valley City had certainly bought Jeremy and Major Joseph some valuable time. By the time they reached a point just two blocks from the stadium, however, a large number of monsters suddenly poured out from the building.
Jeremy and Major Joseph immediately prepared for battle. But to their surprise, the monsters didn't seem to notice them at all. The creatures simply ran past the place where they were hiding, speeding by without giving any indication of detecting their presence.
"Why is this happening? Could something unexpected be going on?" Major Joseph asked, his voice filled with confusion.
Jeremy shook his head.
"No matter what, we need to keep moving toward the stadium. The fact that these monsters are leaving is a good sign for us. At least when we face the final battle, we'll have fewer enemies to deal with." Explore more stories at empire
Jeremy's words were something Major Joseph completely agreed with.
Joseph nodded. "Then let's move quickly! If we're too slow, those monsters might come back."
With that, Jeremy and Major Joseph quickened their pace, drawing closer to the stadium. When they reached the outer perimeter of the building, both of their expressions grew serious. The stadium was heavily fortified.
The outer defenses were not just comprised of passive magical wards; there were also high-level monsters stationed around the area. Some of them had reached terrifying levels—level 65, to be specific.
Jeremy was at level 62, so his level wasn't far from the monsters' power. But in a fight, Jeremy knew he couldn't take on a monster alone. He would have to face multiple enemies at once, which would make the battle incredibly difficult.
"We can't just charge in!" Jeremy said firmly. "The defenses around the stadium are already this intense. The enemies inside will definitely be even stronger. We need to find a way to preserve our strength."
Major Joseph nodded in agreement. "You're right, but what should we do? How do we get past the defenses outside the stadium?"
Joseph wasn't particularly sharp when it came to tactics, and he couldn't think of a way to bypass such a heavily guarded area. It seemed nearly impossible to find a path through the stadium's defenses without drawing attention.
The walls of the stadium were high, the gates fortified, and the creatures guarding the perimeter were powerful. It was clear that a direct assault would lead to disaster. The situation was dire, and they didn't have much time to come up with a solution.
"We need to keep our heads cool and find a side entrance," Jeremy suggested after a moment of thought, scanning the stadium's perimeter for any weak spots. "If we can slip in through a less guarded area, we might have a better shot at getting inside."
Joseph, still a bit uncertain, nodded slowly. "Alright, let's look for any opening. But we have to move fast. The longer we wait, the more likely we are to be spotted."
The two of them began moving carefully, continuing to circle the stadium and looking for any sign of vulnerability in the defenses. As they moved, the tension in the air grew. Every step they took toward the heart of the enemy's stronghold brought them closer to danger.
But there was no turning back now. The fate of Valley City rested on their shoulders, and they knew that any mistake could be catastrophic. They had no choice but to press forward.
Jeremy furrowed his brow and thought for a moment. Suddenly, an idea struck him.
"Perhaps I can use my The King of Time and Space ability in combination with your special skills," he said.
At these words, Major Joseph still wore a puzzled expression on his face.
Jeremy's The King of Time and Space ability could indeed open a portal, but doing so would certainly attract the attention of the monsters inside the Grand Stadium.
Joseph's special skill was related to fire, but fire alone couldn't help conceal a portal. If Ritchie were here, Ritchie could use his shadow manipulation skills to help hide the portal.
"I don't understand what you mean by having our skills work together. Do you think fire can help hide the portal?" Major Joseph asked, his voice laced with confusion.
Jeremy shook his head.
"Of course not. Fire can't hide the portal. But once the fire is fully activated, it can be sent into the Grand Stadium. This will draw all the monsters inside, and we can take the opportunity to sneak in."
Jeremy explained his plan.
Though Major Joseph felt that the plan seemed a bit shaky, he couldn't think of a better one.
"Alright then. We'll go with your plan. If it fails, we'll just jump straight into combat," Major Joseph agreed after a brief pause.
Without wasting any time, Jeremy activated his The King of Time and Space ability.
As he did, a faint portal materialized in front of them.
"The portal is ready. Now, generate the fire," Jeremy instructed Major Joseph.
Major Joseph nodded and stretched his hands forward. A ball of intensely burning fire appeared between his palms.
He hurled the fire directly into the portal.
The moment the fire entered, Jeremy immediately extended the portal into the Grand Stadium.
Flames rained down inside the stadium.
The entire interior of the stadium descended into chaos.
Kean's subordinate, upon seeing the fire, wore an even more serious expression.
At this moment, Kean's subordinate had no idea that the fire was created by Major Joseph. However, he did know that enemies were still present within Valley City.
Kean's subordinate wasn't intimidated by the flames. Instead, he remained vigilantly aware of his surroundings. It was the monsters around him that were frightened by the fire.
A large number of monsters began running amok inside the Grand Stadium. This caused the remaining survivors to faint from sheer terror.
Faced with the chaos, Kean's subordinate was furious.
"Stop running around! Calm down, all of you! This attack is an attempt by the enemy to disrupt our judgment!" he shouted.
Under his command, the monsters quickly settled down.
Meanwhile, Jeremy and Major Joseph took advantage of the distraction and entered the Grand Stadium.
They were finally able to observe the situation inside more closely.
The walls of the stadium were entirely draped in deep red cloth, and strange, intricate symbols seemed to be drawn on them.
Neither Jeremy nor Major Joseph knew exactly what these symbols meant, but they both realized they were linked to the ritual that was about to take place.
"Could Kean's subordinate's plan to destroy Valley City involve these mysterious symbols on the red cloth?" Major Joseph whispered to Jeremy.
Jeremy didn't respond immediately. He simply shook his head slowly, signaling that he didn't know.
Major Joseph, still a little anxious, tried to speak again. He felt that talking to Jeremy would help him calm down.
Jeremy, slightly irritated, cut him off.
"Stop talking. We don't need to converse right now. Our priority is to gather information. Only once we have enough intel can we act."
At Jeremy's reminder, Major Joseph finally fell silent.
The two of them focused intently on gathering information about their surroundings.
It didn't take long for them to pinpoint the exact locations of all the enemies inside the Grand Stadium.
"Kean's subordinate is standing at the very center of the stadium. If we try to attack him directly, it will definitely attract the attention of the other monsters. So, we need to move quickly."
"As long as we can kill Kean's subordinate, the other monsters won't be able to carry out the ritual. That way, at least Valley City won't be completely destroyed," Jeremy slowly explained his reasoning.
Major Joseph listened attentively, fully understanding the gravity of the situation. After all, he was in charge of Valley City's safety, and he was the one who most wanted to prevent the city's destruction.
"Although what I'm saying sounds simple, the execution will be full of complications," Jeremy continued. "The main problem is that those monsters will definitely interfere with our actions. And Kean's subordinate will not be easy to defeat. So once the battle begins, we must unleash all our power immediately. Only then can we achieve a quick victory."
Major Joseph fully agreed with Jeremy's plan.
He was eager to act right away, feeling that the longer they delayed, the higher the risk of Valley City's destruction.
However, Jeremy didn't agree with immediate action. He was still waiting for the right moment.
"Why are we still waiting?" Major Joseph asked, slightly impatient. "I don't understand what better timing you're waiting for. The enemy is right in front of us; we should deal with them quickly."
At Joseph's urging, Jeremy gave a calm reply.
"I'm waiting for my allies to provide me with assistance. My friend told us how to navigate through the toxic gas-filled areas, and she will soon instruct us on how to use the green crystals."
Jeremy's explanation made things clearer to Major Joseph.
Major Joseph suddenly realized.
"Oh, I almost forgot! We still have a lot of the green crystals. These crystals are highly toxic. If we use them properly, we should be able to gain a huge advantage in the fight."
Joseph felt a bit more reassured now.
With that, Jeremy could finally focus on thinking through the specific tactics. However, time was running out for him because Kean's subordinate was growing increasingly agitated. Although the monsters he had sent out had still not found the hidden defense array, he had decided he could no longer afford to wait.
"If I keep waiting, my plan is going to fail!" Kean's subordinate muttered to himself. "Although starting the ritual now would involve huge risks, I have no other choice!"
