Era of Players: Death God

Chapter 280: Priscilla

As the last rays of sunshine dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, Arthur and Ilya emerged from the dungeon, their hearts still racing from the adrenaline of their recent battles. The forest surrounding them was lush and vibrant, the scent of pine filling the air as they walked along a well-trodden path.

"Let's find a good spot to set up camp for the night," Arthur suggested, casting a glance around. "We need to rest and recharge before heading to the last dungeon."

"Good idea," Ilya replied, scanning the area. "I think I see a clearing near that stream up ahead. It'll be perfect for cooking and setting up our tents."

They made their way to the clearing, where the gentle sound of bubbling water provided a soothing backdrop. Arthur quickly unpacked his gear and set up his tent, while Ilya did the same, each of them moving with practiced efficiency. Within moments, their tents stood side by side, a small beacon of safety amidst the wildness of the forest.

"Now, for dinner," Ilya said, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she rummaged through her pack. "What do you feel like eating tonight?"

"I'm up for anything!" Arthur replied enthusiastically. "What do you have?"

"I brought along some dried meat, a mix of vegetables, and a few spices," she said, pulling out the ingredients. "I thought we could make a hearty stew. It'll be warm and filling."

"That sounds perfect," Arthur said, grateful for her foresight. They set to work, gathering firewood and preparing a small fire pit. The flames flickered to life with a few well-placed sparks, crackling merrily as they settled down to cook.

Ilya filled a pot with water from the stream and placed it over the fire. As it warmed, she expertly chopped the vegetables, her knife gliding through the ingredients with precision. Arthur watched, impressed by her skill and determination.

"Do you cook often?" he asked, genuinely curious.

"Whenever I can," Ilya replied, her voice brightening. "Cooking is one of my favorite things to do, especially when we're out here in the wild. There's something satisfying about preparing a meal over an open flame."

As the water began to boil, Ilya added the dried meat, letting it simmer before tossing in the chopped vegetables, followed by a sprinkle of herbs and spices. The rich aroma wafted through the air, coaxing their stomachs to rumble in unison.

"Smells amazing!" Arthur said, leaning closer to the pot. "I can't wait to taste it."

"Just a little longer," Ilya said with a grin. "We want all the flavors to blend together perfectly."

While they waited for the stew to finish cooking, Ilya leaned against a nearby log, her expression thoughtful. "You know, I've been meaning to ask about Priscilla," she said, breaking the comfortable silence. "What's she like?"

Arthur's heart fluttered at the mention of his girlfriend. "Oh, Priscilla is incredible. She's kind, funny, and always seems to know how to make people feel good about themselves. She has this warmth about her that just draws people in."

Ilya smiled knowingly. "I've known Priscilla for a long time, even before we came to the academy. We used to hang out a lot. She has such a passion for life, doesn't she?"

"Absolutely," Arthur replied, a fond smile spreading across his face. "She's really dedicated to her art. Painting is one of her biggest passions. She can spend hours lost in her work."

Ilya's eyes lit up with interest. "Really? I remember how she would always talk about her art. It was like she was in another world when she painted. Did you know she loves nature as well?"

"I did," Arthur said, nodding. "We often go hiking together. She loves finding new places to sketch and paint. It's one of the things I admire about her—she really sees the beauty in everything."

"That sounds so lovely," Ilya said, leaning forward. "Priscilla's such a beautiful soul. I remember her telling me how much she enjoys exploring and discovering new spots. She always had a knack for finding hidden gems in nature."

Arthur chuckled softly, recalling their adventures in the woods. "Yeah, she has a way of turning an ordinary hike into an adventure. It's one of the reasons I fell for her."

"You're lucky to have her," Ilya said, her expression sincere. "It's not easy to find someone who shares your passions and understands you so well."

"I feel lucky," Arthur replied, feeling warmth spread through him. "I want to learn as much as I can about her interests. What else does she love?"

Ilya thought for a moment, her brow furrowing in concentration. "She loves music too. I remember her playing the guitar during our downtime. She has a beautiful voice, and it always felt magical when she played."

"Wow, I didn't know that!" Arthur exclaimed, intrigued. "I'll have to ask her to sing for me sometime."

"Definitely," Ilya encouraged. "You should. It's one of those things that makes her even more special. She pours her heart into everything she does."

As the conversation flowed, the stew bubbled away, filling the air with an enticing aroma. Ilya ladled the mixture into two bowls, and they settled down near the fire, savoring the warmth as they enjoyed their meal.

"This is delicious," Arthur said, taking a generous spoonful. "You really outdid yourself!"

"Thanks!" Ilya replied, beaming with pride. "Cooking is so much more fun with good company."

After they finished their meal and cleaned up, Arthur pulled out a small chess set from his spatial ring, a thoughtful gift from Priscilla. "How about a game of chess?" he suggested, setting up the pieces on a flat rock near the fire.

"Absolutely! I'm ready to crush you," Ilya teased, her competitive spirit igniting as she took a seat across from him.

Arthur chuckled, his heart light as he arranged the pieces. "We'll see about that. I won't go easy on you."

They began the game, Arthur making the first move with a pawn. Ilya quickly countered, her mind sharp as she plotted her strategy. The two fell into a rhythm, discussing their moves and bantering back and forth.

"You know, I've been practicing," Ilya said, her eyes narrowing in concentration as she moved her knight. "This time, I'm going to win."

"Last time I checked, I was the reigning champion," Arthur replied with a smirk, making a strategic move that caught Ilya off guard.

"Only because I was distracted! This time, I'm all in," she retorted, her playful demeanor shining through.

As they played, the game unfolded into an exciting battle of wits. Each move became more intense, the stakes rising as they strategized and countered each other's plays. Laughter filled the air as they exchanged friendly jabs, the camaraderie between them flourishing in the warmth of the firelight.

Arthur admired Ilya's skills; she was a formidable opponent, and he found himself fully engaged in the game. Every piece moved felt like a carefully calculated decision, and he relished the mental challenge she presented.

After several intense exchanges, Ilya managed to corner Arthur's king. "Checkmate!" she exclaimed triumphantly, a wide grin lighting up her face.

"No way! How did you do that?" Arthur said, feigning disbelief as he leaned back, crossing his arms with a mock pout.

"I told you I've been practicing!" Ilya said, her laughter ringing through the night. "You'll have to step up your game if you want to keep up with me!"

"I'll take you on any day," Arthur replied, his smile genuine as he admired her spirit. "You're a tough opponent."

As they sat back, the warmth of the fire crackling softly beside them, Arthur felt a sense of peace wash over him. The night sky above was dotted with stars, and the forest around them felt alive with the sounds of nature.

In that moment, under the vastness of the night sky, Arthur and Ilya shared more than just a meal or a game; they shared a bond that had grown stronger through their challenges and victories. They were not just allies in battle; they were friends, reveling in each other's company as they prepared for whatever lay ahead. She would be of great help to further secure Priscilla, a woman he genuinely love the more time spent together, he really missed her and couldn't wait to meet her soon.
