Volume 1 Chapter 46 - Dispute
The day after being kidnapped by a strange duo in a taxi, I called Nanapon to check her plans for the upcoming week. She said she would be going to college this week, so our adventuring plans were put on hold. Come to think of it, she’s a college student too, so she has classes.
“Are you attending your classes properly?”
“I’ve scored 100 on all my tests, so I’ve been skipping classes up to the point where I can.”
That was our conversation over the phone yesterday. I’m Elenora due to certain reasons.
Initially, Okita-kun was the one who called. But immediately, I was told, “Change! Do it as Elenora!” and the call was disconnected. Even in messages, if Okita-kun handles it, this is the response.
Probably, I’m disliked by her. It’s a bit disheartening, but Nanapon is somewhat wary of men, so I guess it’s fine.
Since I had some free time, I spent the day researching foreign adventurers and their conditions.
There are adventurer guilds overseas as well, and like Japan, they go through the gates to the frontier. The accessible frontiers differ from country to country. The frontiers have a variety of terrains, including deserts and coastlines. The land area that countries around the world are renting seems to be quite extensive, leading to the assumption that the frontier is a large planet. Or perhaps the population of frontier people is small.
While the truth is unknown, there are various theories, and I get lost in time while browsing through them. I’ve become much more informed than I was 10 or 20 years ago in school.
“Still, the information on acquiring skills is rather sketchy…”
Both Nanapon and I have only one skill, excluding unique skills. I have swordsmanship, and Nanapon has fire magic. We probably have fewer skills because of our low levels, but even when compared to the two people from yesterday, it’s significantly less. Furthermore, I’ve looked at the status cards of everyone belonging to the Ikebukuro branch, and some adventurers at our level have 3 or 4 skills.
“Maybe I should try it with Nanapon next time…”
I decided to make a note of the methods for acquiring skills that I found online. I plan to verify whether we can acquire new skills in our next adventure.
The day ends with such research, and I lie down on my futon, excited. Because tomorrow is the date to go house-hunting with Kaede-chan.
And the next day, I prepare and leave my home just before noon. When I arrive at Nerima Station by train, Kaede-chan is already waiting.
“Sorry for keeping you waiting, I’m late.”
Kaede-chan seems not to mind at all, waving her hand with a smile.
“Shall we go?”
We have lunch at a restaurant recommended by Kaede-chan and head to the real estate agency when it’s a good time.
Upon arriving at the real estate agency, the person who assisted us the last time is waiting. We listen to the explanation about the properties they found for us.
“Although it wasn’t available before, a cancellation has just come up. I think this place meets your requirements.”
The property shown to us is a nearly new 2LDK apartment in a three-story building. It looks clean in the photos, and the location isn’t bad. The rent would easily devour my salary from when I was a working adult, but that’s not an issue now.
“I think it’s pretty good, Kaede-chan. The rooms are spacious.”
“Well, it’s certainly a room I could never afford to live in.”
Although Kaede-chan’s salary must be quite good, this level is probably too much for her.
“Shall we go with this place, then? Or would you like to look around some more?”
“Let’s go with this one. It’s nearly perfect.”
We decide to go with this property and proceed to sign the contract.
After finishing the explanations and contract, we leave the real estate agency and go furniture shopping. It’s almost like we’re newlyweds, although I mostly leave the choices up to Kaede-chan.
And as time flies while watching Kaede-chan carefully choose furniture and other items, we decide to go for a drink. We go to a private room in a pub recommended by Kaede-chan and start drinking.
“This place is delicious.”
“The food is good, isn’t it? I used to come here often with friends.”
“Shall we drink a lot then? I can take you home.”
“No, I have work tomorrow. I won’t drink that much.”
“Right, you do have work.”
“But it’s an easy job. I just sit there if you’re not around.”
“Is it always like that? Doesn’t the customer base increase because of Elenora?”
“Well, applications for transfers from other places flooded in, so there were some restrictions. The number of people coming in during the day has increased, but it’s still low.”
“Must be boring.”
“Honestly, yes. But recently there’s the auction stuff, so I have things to do.”
“Ah, the auction is happening next week. Looking forward to it.”
“Hope it sells high. Let’s watch it together on the last day, shall we? At your place?”
“Sure, let’s do it.”
We continue to enjoy our drinks, both of us feeling happy and content.
