Even Though I Am Blind, I Am Invincible

Chapter 3: 3 The Path of Fate

"Xiao Heng, you possess unrivaled power. Never forget that."

Xiao Heng's world had fallen into darkness. Sight was lost to him, yet the void brought something unexpected—his senses had sharpened to an extraordinary degree. Every whisper of the wind, every shift of movement, every subtle change in his surroundings—he could perceive them all. Though blind, he could sense Taoist Yao Hai as clearly as if he stood in plain sight.

He bowed slightly. "Please enlighten me, Senior."

The old Taoist's voice carried wisdom and weight. "You must carry yourself with dignity. Wear a cloth over your eyes—it will help suppress your power and give you an air of grace. Never fight with your bare hands, only with weapons. To do otherwise would invite calamity. Dress in light-colored robes and always speak with respect. These are the rules you must follow. Do you understand?"

Xiao Heng hesitated. "Senior, I own no weapon, nor do I have the means to acquire one."

Taoist Yao Hai chuckled softly. "I anticipated this."

A spatial ring appeared in the air before Xiao Heng. "Take this. Inside, you will find a divine weapon—the Tianhai Flute. It is not a mere instrument; it is a blade hidden within sound. Along with it, one hundred thousand taels of spirit stones. More than enough to obtain additional weapons, should you need them. And lastly, robes of white and blue, befitting the path you now walk."

Xiao Heng hesitated. "Senior… are you truly giving me all this?"

The Taoist laughed. "These things are of no use to me anymore. Consider them a gift."

Xiao Heng bowed deeply. "I am forever grateful, Senior."

Taoist Yao Hai's voice grew softer. "Go now. There is little in this world that remains beyond your comprehension. None will stand as your equal. Fear nothing."

Xiao Heng prostrated himself in gratitude before stepping out of the cave. His steps were sure, his direction clear, as if he still possessed his sight.

Taoist Yao Hai watched his departing figure and murmured, "I hope you will one day surpass me."

Thus, fate turned unexpectedly. Though blind, Xiao Heng walked forward—unchanged in spirit, yet utterly transformed.

Upon reaching home, Xiao Heng sensed his mother seated outside. He had resolved not to tell her of his blindness, yet the moment he stepped forward, her voice rang out, trembling with relief.

"Heng'er!"

She ran to him, holding him tightly. "You were gone for two days! Do you know how frightened I was?"

Then she saw it—the cloth wrapped around his eyes. Her hands trembled as she touched his face. "Your eyes… what happened?"

Xiao Heng forced a smile. "It's nothing, Mother. I tripped and hit a rock."

Her grip tightened, her voice breaking. "Why has heaven done this to you? Have even the gods abandoned you?"

Before he could respond, a voice interrupted.

"Xiao Heng."

His father stood in the doorway, his expression unreadable. "Come inside."

Xiao Heng turned to his mother. "Father is calling me. We'll speak later."

She watched him leave, troubled. "He's changed," she thought. "My son… what have you become?"
