Chapter 16: You Really Ate Well

Lin Mo was usually what kind of person, could Mrs. Jiang not know, could Yuan Meng not know?

They were all carefree little buddies, so why did he suddenly start acting like this, even putting on airs?

That was right, Yuan Meng had just seen when Lin Mo brewed tea, his whole aura changed.

Although it looked a bit good, even pleasing to the eye, for those familiar with him, it was obvious that he was putting on a show.

Of course, this also had something to do with Lin Mo’s tea art skill being only at the beginner level, and it was his first time practicing tea brewing, so naturally his performance was not that perfect.

But Lin Mo himself did not think so much.

He originally thought the tea master’s craft was useless, but unexpectedly he really got to use it.

Seeing Mrs. Jiang’s approving gaze, as well as the change in her expression before and after drinking the tea, gave him a sense of swelling vanity.

No wonder everyone liked to show off in front of others—it was truly satisfying.

He just did not expect that when he was enjoying showing off, Yuan Meng suddenly cut him off mid-performance, giving him a powerless feeling like being stuck halfway while doing something important.

As for Mrs. Jiang, her face turned green one moment and red the next, looking rather marvelous.

Her daughter was already grown, so dating was very normal, and she had already assumed the two were indeed dating.

After all, her daughter had never before invited a boy to eat alone, and even used her father Old Yuan’s card.

If Old Yuan found out, who knew how angry he would get.

Her original intention had been to chat with this young man to get to know him, which was why she deliberately chose this tea house with a high consumption level.

Simply put, it was a small test.

If the boy came from an ordinary family, he would surely feel out of place here.

On one hand, she could roughly gauge Lin Mo’s family situation.

On the other hand, if his background was average, this choice of hers could also create a subtle pressure.

It was killing two birds with one stone.

After all, the crude method of forcefully breaking apart a couple was too low-class and would only make others laugh, so she naturally disdained such an approach.

But she did not expect that instead of testing out Lin Mo’s background, her own daughter ended up exposing herself.

Which good young lady opened her mouth with such vulgar words?

“Shut up, if you don’t talk no one will mistake you for a mute!” Mrs. Jiang glared at her daughter, then turned to Lin Mo with a smile.

“Xiao Lin, this tea you brewed is really good. The same tea, yet it tastes much better than when I usually drink it.”

Hearing this, Lin Mo withdrew from the pretentious posture he had been holding and smiled as he replied:

“Not at all, it’s all thanks to Auntie’s tea. Xinyang Maojian, a representative among green teas, and moreover, it’s the top grade. Naturally the taste won’t be bad when brewed.”

This knowledge was something he had not known before, but ever since acquiring the tea art skill, such things became standard for him.

After all, the most basic requirement for being a tea master was to recognize tea.

And the tea he had just tasted was absolutely not cheap.

At the very least, it was worth over a thousand, even several thousand, yuan per jin.

Hearing Lin Mo’s words, Mrs. Jiang’s eyes narrowed slightly, and the corners of her mouth curved upwards.

She felt that even if this young man’s family background was not as good as hers, it certainly was not bad either.

After all, which child from an ordinary family could recognize this kind of tea at a glance?

One had to know that when the tea was brought in, there were no labels.

And since her daughter said he was her colleague, obviously this was not his profession.

It had to be that his family often drank tea of this level, for him to recognize it instantly.

His family situation was probably not bad, his looks were decent, giving off a clean and sunny feeling.

He could talk, was polite, and meeting an elder like her for the first time, he did not appear nervous.

She had to admit, Mrs. Jiang was somewhat satisfied.

As they spoke, Lin Mo’s hands did not stop, pouring more tea for Mrs. Jiang, filling the cup seven-tenths full.

His etiquette at the tea table was impeccable.

Though slightly shy, his movements still looked graceful.

For a moment, no one in the tea room spoke, all of them quietly drinking tea.

After three brews, the tea could not be brewed again, or else it would become slightly bitter.

Although still drinkable, it would lose its charm.

“Not bad, really not bad. This tea today is truly refreshing.” Mrs. Jiang’s forehead was slightly sweating, feeling her whole body more transparent and comfortable.

“As long as Auntie likes it.” Lin Mo put down the tea set in his hand and reverted back to the innocent young man.

“By the way, Xiao Lin, where are you from? How old are you this year?” Mrs. Jiang asked, feeling more and more satisfied with the boy before her.

“Auntie, I’m from Nancheng, 21 years old, currently interning in my third year at Jiangning University of Science and Technology. I’ll be entering my senior year soon.” Lin Mo answered truthfully, without overthinking.

Nancheng was not far from Jiangning, a neighboring city.

It only took a little over half an hour by high-speed rail, though its economy was not as strong as Jiangning’s.

Hearing this, Mrs. Jiang was stunned, then turned to her daughter with an expression of disbelief.

Her eyes said it all.

‘As expected of my daughter, you really know how to choose. A college boy, how wonderful!’

Facing her mother’s appreciative gaze, Yuan Meng was utterly confused.

What was wrong with being a junior in college?

Did making friends depend on age?

Didn’t she know how powerful his skills were in Vibrant Blade?

Glancing at her daughter, Mrs. Jiang then turned to Lin Mo, giving him another look up and down, her eyes glowing.

She had thought this boy looked a bit young at first, but he really was fresh and tender.

Good-looking, decent family, articulate, still a college student not yet tainted by the great dye vat of society.

Very pure.

No wonder her daughter liked him—at her own age, she would have liked him too.

And since he was still in school, naturally no one could expect him to be perfect in every aspect.

He was still a kid, plenty of time to mold him later.

At first, she thought some punk was deceiving her daughter.

She had even felt upset.

But upon learning he was still a student, suddenly her daughter became the punk instead, making her as a mother feel somewhat embarrassed.

“Ahem… still in college, that’s nice. Do you have any plans after graduation? Will you stay in Jiangning to develop?” Mrs. Jiang asked, her voice sounding kinder.

Lin Mo shook his head.

“Not yet, I’ll graduate first and then see. If it doesn’t work out, going back home isn’t bad either.”

Hearing this, Mrs. Jiang’s mind automatically translated his words as:

‘After graduation, I’ll try to develop in Jiangning. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll return home to inherit the family business or take a job arranged by my family.’

After all, once you had a preconceived impression of someone, no matter what that person said, your brain would automatically fill in the results you wanted to hear.

If Lin Mo knew what Mrs. Jiang was thinking, he would probably be extremely nervous.

After all, while his parents were both state workers, compared to the person before him, they were utterly ordinary.

The three of them then casually chatted in the tea room.

Lin Mo did not mind, simply answering truthfully whenever asked.

After more than half an hour, the three of them left the tea house.

Yuan Meng wanted to send Lin Mo home, but Mrs. Jiang stopped her.

“Mom, why didn’t you let me send him?”

Watching Lin Mo get into a taxi and leave, Yuan Meng asked, feeling a little dissatisfied.

“You still dare to ask? Such a big thing and you didn’t tell me. Do you even still take me as your mother?” Mrs. Jiang glared at her daughter.

“What big thing?”

“Still pretending?” Mrs. Jiang nudged her daughter with her shoulder, smiling like a doting aunt as she said:

“You little brat, you really ate well!”

Yuan Meng: ???
