Ch. 4
Chapter 4: Old Master Lin Was Tall and Hard
In the afternoon, after finishing the day’s work, Lin Mo was slacking off at his workstation, while Yuan Meng sat nearby chewing bubblegum and scrolling through pictures of handsome men with eight-pack abs, looking very pleased.
“Yuan-jie, is your sales department really this idle?” Lin Mo asked somewhat awkwardly.
Hearing this, Yuan Meng rolled her eyes at him and replied, “Do you even understand what sales is? As long as I can land big deals, I don’t even need to come to the company. Who would dare to control me!”
Lin Mo: …
She wasn’t wrong.
But ever since he started his internship at the company, he had never seen Yuan Meng run around visiting clients like the other salespeople did.
Most of the time she stayed in the company, found a quiet place to play games, watch dramas, or scroll through videos.
At night she played games as well, so it was hard to imagine when exactly she went out to meet clients.
“Then what are you doing here at my spot? You’re making me feel nervous about slacking off!” Lin Mo said helplessly.
Originally, his seat was pretty good—at the corner by the window, quiet and hidden.
Now with Yuan Meng being such an attention magnet, all afternoon everyone who walked by turned their heads to look at them.
“It’s quiet here. Also, don’t leave after work, let’s hit the internet café together. I want to see if you’re really cheating or not!”
Lin Mo: …
He, Lin Mo, was not cheating (insert an old friend’s meme).
Very soon it was already 4:50 p.m., almost time to get off work, when Department Manager Dong Dawei pushed the door open and came in.
After scanning the room, his eyes immediately landed on Yuan Meng sprawled on her chair.
His already dark face grew even darker.
Yuan Meng clearly saw him too, but she didn’t care in the slightest, not even putting down her phone as she continued scrolling through the abs of that handsome man.
Seeing this made Dong Dawei even angrier.
“Ahem, listen up everyone.
Considering everyone’s mood, this weekend’s team-building event is canceled.
But no one can let their work slide, especially since next Monday our Head Office’s President Liu is coming here for an inspection.
So finish your tasks within these two days.
Otherwise, if it affects this month’s bonus, don’t blame me.
That’s all!”
Because of the conflict between Yuan Meng and him yesterday, the General Manager had specifically held a small meeting about it, even criticizing Dong Dawei by name.
This left Fatty Dong extremely frustrated—he had tried to suck up and ended up being scolded instead.
Naturally, it only made him dislike Yuan Meng more.
“Wuhu~~”
“Awesome, I already have a date this weekend!”
“I’m going on a blind date!”
“I can finally sleep in!”
Everyone cheered when they heard the news.
After all, no one wanted to spend their day off on team-building, let alone pay for it themselves.
Taking advantage of the noisy cheers, Dong Dawei walked over to Yuan Meng and whispered, “Satisfied now? Don’t think just because you brought in a big order that I, as the manager, can’t control you. You’ll regret this!”
Hearing that, Yuan Meng shot him a sideways glance, her eyes full of disdain, and parted her red lips: “Scram~”
Dong Dawei: …
He snorted coldly, turned around, and slammed the door shut with a bang.
Lin Mo, watching from the side, widened his eyes.
What did he just witness?
Reality performing like some village skit?
Yuan — regret.
Dong — scram.
Door — bang.
Indeed, the world was nothing more than a giant roadside comedy troupe.
Even he got to witness it live—art truly came from life!
Soon it was time to get off work.
Yuan Meng put away her phone, grabbed him, and headed out.
Downstairs, they found Zhang Wei, and the three of them got into Yuan Meng’s Xiaomi SU7 Ultra and went straight to the internet café.
At Tianyuan Internet Café, on the second floor, Yuan Meng booked a private room directly.
“Come on, show me your skills from yesterday. Let me see if your blade is hard or not!”
“Yeah, if you’re not cheating, I, Zhang Wei, will eat shit right here!”
Lin Mo: …
Tired.
Exhausted.
Right or wrong, he no longer felt like explaining.
Let the facts speak for themselves.
Soon, the three started a match.
Just like last night, Lin Mo still played flawlessly, his dazzling techniques leaving the other two in awe, shouting how amazing he was.
When the game ended with a victory screen, Lin Mo squinted at them and said,
“Well? Isn’t my blade hard enough?”
The two immediately cupped their fists in mock salute.
Yuan Meng: “Mo-zi, tall!”
Zhang Wei: “Lin-ge, hard!”
“Old Master Lin is both tall and hard!” x2
Lin Mo: …
“Stop changing the subject. Are you going to eat it fresh or overnight? Hurry up. If you don’t want to eat someone else’s, you can produce and consume your own!”
Hearing this, Zhang Wei coughed awkwardly, quickly stood up, and said, “Ahem, well, I’ll go buy water. Tonight’s dinner is on me!”
And then he bolted.
Of course he had to run—there really was a toilet here!
Turning back, Lin Mo saw Yuan Meng staring at him excitedly.
“What? I sell skills, not my body!”
“Get lost. Hurry up and teach me. Teach me well, and I’ll reward you handsomely!” Yuan Meng said.
She didn’t care why Lin Mo’s skills had suddenly skyrocketed.
What mattered was that there was finally a true carry in her team—and he wasn’t cheating!
Hearing that, Lin Mo thought about a certain generous someone and nodded, saying, “Then I’ll teach you the Greatsword Rising Dragon, Chain Hook Hundred Strikes. How about it?”
Yuan Meng: “Can it look cool?”
Lin Mo: …
“Then I’ll teach you the Longsword Rising Dragon, Triple Aerial Slash. How about it?”
Yuan Meng: “Can it get me ranked number one on the Sky Leaderboard?”
Lin Mo: …
“No.”
“Triple Aerial is worse than Power Charge Burst. Not learning it! Not learning it!”
Lin Mo: “Then how about the Dual Blade Cross Slash into Four Directions Blossoms?”
Yuan Meng: “Can it solo Kled?”
“Uh… probably not!”
“If it can’t, why should I learn that trash? Give me another one!”
Lin Mo: (艹皿艹)
“You don’t want to learn this, you don’t want to learn that, then I won’t teach you at all!”
Saying that, he slapped her hand off his arm three times in a row.
After that, the three of them fought at the internet café until eleven at night and even climbed a big rank.
Originally, they wanted to stay overnight, but thinking there might be a refresh at midnight, Lin Mo refused.
In the end, Yuan Meng personally drove him home and set up another session for tomorrow.
Back at home, Lin Mo washed up quickly, then obediently lay on his bed with his phone, waiting for midnight to come, to see if things would go as he expected.
Soon it was midnight.
Sure enough, a familiar advertisement pop-up appeared on his phone.
【Colt Revolver, comes with 100 rounds; ¥7.9】
【Three Squirrels Snack Gift Pack, 60 bags; ¥0.01】
【24k Pure Gold Bracelet, traditional forging; ¥9.16】
【Self-Heating Rice, one box of 12; ¥3.14】
Seeing this, Lin Mo was instantly excited.
It was just as he had guessed.
The items had changed, though.
Self-heating rice and a snack pack—were they serious?
Somehow, it felt like the quality had dropped a lot.
After all, the first two times he got either skill knowledge or ginseng sports cars, not to mention the little blue pill.
But when he saw the golden bracelet, Lin Mo was delighted again.
This thing was valuable.
As for the gun—what would he even do with that?
This wasn’t Free America.
He ordered it immediately.
If it was real, then buying a gold bracelet for nine yuan was no different than picking it up for free.
After the payment went through, Lin Mo was wondering how many days delivery would take when suddenly he felt something drop onto his stomach.
Looking down, it was a golden bracelet, exactly like the one he had just ordered.
“Jus… just like that?”
“Amazing!”
