Chapter 37: Chapter 37: I can't have a baby!
Because he was a transmigrator with no family attachments in this world, Hikaru had few qualms about doing whatever aligned with his principles. And in this world, strength was everything.
Seeing the firm resolve and aura in his eyes, Rias, Akeno, and Koneko felt Hikaru's importance to them grow, as though he was beginning to occupy a space in their hearts.
"I definitely won't say anything. If you ever need my help, just let me know."
Rias's smile faded; she spoke in a serious tone. Hikaru didn't reply either way, but her earnest attitude was easy to appreciate. He felt no exception to that.
Though, from his perspective, about the only thing he might need Rias's help with would be having children.
Turning then to the teary-eyed Asia behind him, Hikaru asked:
"You have nowhere to go, right? Why not go with her" —he gestured at Rias— "and be reborn as a devil, living on as one of her servants?"
But Asia desperately shook her head, clinging to his right hand. Her expression revealed a pleading look.
It was understandable. Asia had led a tumultuous life: becoming a holy maiden, only to be exiled, then tricked by Fallen Angels. Though she didn't exactly despise devils, she'd been raised with a deeply ingrained fear of them. Moreover, she'd never truly faced a life-or-death experience here—she woke to see Hikaru first, instinctively treating him as her only lifeline, unwilling to leave his side.
"All right, then. In that case, stay at my place and do a bit of housework. Is that something you can handle?"
Any normal person would say "yes" whether they could or not. But Asia had undergone strict training as a child saint. Except for making money, she'd learned how to be quite self-sufficient from a young age.
Asia nodded frantically, tears spilling onto her habit.
"Then let's go,"
Hikaru said. He briefly greeted Rias and the others before preparing to leave.
Right before he left, he asked casually:
"What do you plan to do with Issei Hyoudou and the Fallen Angels?"
Rias pondered a few moments before responding:
"I'll wipe that student's memories of all this. As for the Fallen Angels, I need to consult my brother—Lord Lucifer. It involves diplomacy between two major factions, so I have to be careful."
"I'm off."
With that, Hikaru left without hesitation.
Night fell, the stars twinkled, and a gentle evening breeze blew. Asia finally lifted the weight off her heart as she gazed at the open sky, but now felt apprehensive looking at Hikaru.
"Hop on."
He pointed at a motorcycle. Though he could fly, he rather enjoyed the feeling of driving. Nervously, Asia climbed onto the back seat, unsure whether to wrap her arms around him. Yet once the bike started moving, to avoid falling off, she instinctively hugged him from behind.
"Huh…?"
At first it felt strange, but soon Asia experienced an unfamiliar sense of warmth and security. It was odd. Even in the church, surrounded by benevolent priests, bishops, and nuns, she'd never felt this way. No one had ever hugged her, nor had she ever hugged anyone. After being exiled from the church, she learned just how harsh the world could be—cold air, cold water, a cold bed. But Hikaru's back felt so very warm. This precious warmth calmed her uneasy heart, and half her body leaned onto him. She closed her eyes, wearing a look of contentment.
Back home, Hikaru showed Asia her new room and then left. Asia, seeing a luxurious bedroom she'd never even imagined before, ran her hands over the soft, pristine sheets, tears falling uncontrollably again.
In that moment, she made a silent resolution: no matter what happened in the future, she would spend her life repaying him. And then her thoughts wandered to Hikaru's cool face. If I'm to repay him with my entire life… if one day he wants… that sort of thing… should I agree? Or should I agree right away?
As her mind spun with wild fantasies, a small hand alighted on her shoulder, making Asia jump. Whirling around, she found a petite silver-haired girl in a dress—looking even younger than herself. Her fear ebbed away.
"And you are…?"
"Hikaru is my master. I am his sword. Whatever he tells me to do, I do."
The girl, Est, regarded Asia without expression, feeling vaguely unhappy about this new blonde beauty Hikaru had brought home.
"I-I'm Asia Argento. P-please take care of me."
Asia offered a handshake, but Est simply turned around and left.
"Eh?"
Asia stood there, baffled, wondering if she had somehow offended the girl.
