Exploring Immortality Cultivation

Chapter 155 Old Friends

"Speaking of which," Wang Qi couldn't quite understand one aspect of the Dao Artifact Award: it notified all nominees to travel to Fusang, and then at the last minute, it would announce the winner. However, on Earth, similar awards were announced and presented separately.

In other words, for this Dao Artifact Award, every nominee had to prepare something akin to an acceptance speech, yet most of these efforts were doomed to be in vain.

Feng Luoyi had also cautioned him about this, and Wang Qi nodded to show there was no problem. Xi Baiche then said, "Don't underestimate this manual, either. We should not neglect someone's swordsmanship simply because of the differences between the Zongli Sect and Li Sect. It's important to understand the difference between 'Dao' and its application."

Xi Baiche spoke a few more words like a true mentor to Wang Qi and then left. But the gazes surrounding Wang Qi suddenly changed; about thirty percent of them became inexplicably intense.

Wang Qi could only respond with a wry smile. To everyone around, the actions of the Master of Calculation undoubtedly conveyed that "this guy is going to be one of our Geting Sect people from now on." Trapped in the role of a Banished Immortal, Wang Qi had originally intended to use the Geting Sect as a means to boost his own reputation, but now it seemed he had overdone it—his popularity with the Geting Sect had maxed out, but his favorability with the Li Sect, including Zongli Sect, might very well have plummeted into the negatives.

This was not his intention. Earth's mathematics in the twenty-first century had developed upon the achievements of the Göttingen School, making him feel a closer affinity with them, but "building upon their foundation" and "fulfilling complete inheritance" were two different matters. If he wanted to utilize his past achievements, one day he would inevitably have to part ways with the Geting Sect.

Perhaps he would be the one to shatter the dream of the Master of Calculation.

After having conversations with both the Mathematics Lord and Master of Calculation, two unparalleled experts, Wang Qi's level of attention climbed another notch. Finally, one of Wang Qi's few acquaintances within the Wanfa Sect appeared.

Bao Xiaoya walked over gracefully and sat next to Wang Qi, without greeting him, her brows and eyes still, as if she hadn't noticed his presence. Wang Qi casually slapped her shoulder: "Junior Sister, what's wrong? Why that look on your face?"

Bao Xiaoya seemed to have returned to her initial arrogance: "It's nothing."

"Unhappy?"

"Of course, I'm not happy being played for a fool."

Wang Qi laughed loudly: "Ah hahaha, stop joking, who would dare to play you?"

Bao Xiaoya remained silent, staring at Wang Qi. Wang Qi felt guilty: "That... well..."

"To this day, I haven't published a single valuable paper." Bao Xiaoya's face was expressionless, and three degrees colder than Chen Youjia: "I thought I was ready for that moment, it was just the home stretch, but then you disappeared, leaving behind a half-baked calculation hanging in the air."

"Cough, there's a reason for that."

"Yes, such is the grandeur of the foundation of mathematics, making the Big Number Law seem utterly insignificant."

Wang Qi, desperate, ground his teeth: "How can I explain this to you? I've recently had to avoid anything to do with the Big Number Law and other such fields of probability!"

"Why?"

"Of course, to curry favor with Sage Bai Ze," Su Junyu popped up out of nowhere. After not seeing him for several months, this True Inheritor of Wanfa Sect had stepped into the late stages of Foundation Establishment and was only a hair's breadth away from Foundation Establishment Perfection. It seemed he was converting his accumulated knowledge into cultivation. He plopped down next to Wang Qi without any reservation and said to Bao Xiaoya, "Although the Sage is the discoverer of the Big Number Law, he actually despises probabilities the most. He believes that probability is a makeshift concept arising from our half-baked study. If our algorithms are sufficiently sophisticated and encompass enough elements, then we should be able to calculate definitive outcomes."

"But he's the discoverer of the Big Number Law..." Bao Xiaoya sighed. But then she immediately asked, "What does that have to do with Senior Brother Wang?"

"Are you dense?" Su Junyu shook his head. "The Sage is the most powerful and authoritative judge in this Dao Artifact Award. Only your two old men have a chance to compete with him."

After helping Wang Qi out of a tight spot, Su Junyu stared at him and clicked his tongue, "Speaking of which, you've changed quite a lot in these past few months!"

"You've been cultivating fast too, Senior Brother."

Su Junyu shook his head. "I know my own situation best. My cultivation isn't slower than yours, but that's not necessarily true for swordsmanship. Half a year ago, I could have defeated you, even when you were at the mid-stage of Qi Cultivation and I was using only the mana of the Qi Cultivation early stage. Now, even if I suppress my mana to the Qi Cultivation level, I might not be able to beat you." He suddenly lowered his voice, "Tell me honestly, is there a Carefree cultivator from Genting who's been guiding you?"

Wang Qi shook his head, "There is one, but I really can't say who."

Before the Banished Immortal's suspicion was cleared, Wang Qi still couldn't be considered an insider of the Immortal Alliance. Feng Luoyi's behavior was somewhat in violation of the safety protection regulations, so the guidance Wang Qi received had to be kept secret.

"Yo, keeping secrets. How about we play a couple of rounds after this is over, just the two of us?"

"Sure, as long as you only use half your mana."

Finally, Bao Xiaoya ran out of patience. She asked Wang Qi, "Senior Brother, are you still planning to go ahead with the Big Number Law?"

"Absolutely," Wang Qi said firmly. After benefiting from Genting, he no longer had to worry about merit points and could do some research he liked. Probability was not favored by Shenzhou cultivators, but it was useful for the study of microscopic Particle movements, useful for Chen Feng's research, and Chen Youjia was depending on it to make a breakthrough. Therefore, it was very necessary for Wang Qi to continue working on it.

I am just that noble and selfless!

While the three of them were chatting casually, the other Wanfa Sect cultivators began to find their places, forming groups and sitting down. Then, the sounds of idle conversation gradually diminished.

When the melodious bell sounded, a man appeared on the high stage of the auditorium. That man was lean and tall, exuding an elegant and detached air, holding himself with a transcendent grace. Dressed in flowing green robes, with long hair cascading down his back and a green beard hanging down, he was none other than Elder Ji Turing of the Heavenly Elder realm from Thousand Mechanism Pavilion.

This was the first time Wang Qi had seen this living Carefree Great Cultivator, one of the few whose accomplishments were slightly less than his Earth equivalent in the Shenzhou Carefree. Alan Turing was one of the premier mathematicians of the twentieth century, on par with Godel, but Master Turing was instead a slightly obscure Arithmetician on the fringes.

Master Turing first reviewed the recent developments in Mathematics, and made some subtle comments on the debate between the Mathematics Lord and the Master of Calculation. His following remarks were some routine platitudes.

Wang Qi and his companions were not interested in these formalities and continued to speak about other topics in low voices. Wang Qi quietly complained, "I really don't know why the invitation said I could bring two people but then relegated those I brought to the periphery. You have no idea how awkward it was for me without you guys showing up."

"It's a show-off move. According to Wanfa Sect, the more people who know about this, the better. Initially, there wasn't a live broadcast of the Ten Thousand Immortals Illusion Realm, so they had to rely on inviting guests to increase the number of participants. Later, because it was difficult to determine who else to invite, they granted this privilege to those they definitely wanted to invite."
