Chapter 21: Chapter 21 Bond Beyond Worlds
Inside the training room, Fate stood calmly, facing the Teen Titans with a confident smirk.
"This is getting fun."
"Hold still!" Raven shouted, her usual composure cracking as another one of her attacks missed—this time by just three centimeters. He had barely avoided it.
Fate chuckled, effortlessly weaving through the onslaught. "Come on, you can do better than that."
He sidestepped her next attack, his movements enhanced by [Mind Rope], [Mind Eyes] (True), and [Slide Trickster]—a deadly combination that let him read his opponents and react instantly. Not that it mattered; [Refreshment] kept his stamina from depleting, and Avalon constantly healed any minor damage.
"You should move those legs, Rae!" he taunted, ducking beneath another shot before projecting a set of Black Keys in his hand.
"Unless you want to get hit!"
With a flick of his wrist, the Black Keys shot toward her like shadowy spears. Raven barely managed to dodge, her eyes catching Beast Boy, pinned down by one of them—its blade stuck in his shadow, preventing him from moving.
"Hey!" she snapped, as another Black Key whizzed past her head.
She retaliated instantly, summoning dark magic and slamming a condensed blast of energy toward him.
But Fate was already moving.
With acrobatic precision, he twisted mid-air, barely dodging Starfire's sudden strike.
"Up we go!" he grinned, reaching out and grabbing the back of her shirt, using her as leverage to pull himself onto her back.
"Friend, please let go!" Starfire said, struggling to shake him off. But Fate simply stood on her back like a hoverboard, balancing effortlessly.
"Nah," he replied nonchalantly.
Before she could react, Robin came in fast—bo staff swinging.
Fate smirked and jumped off Starfire, flipping over Robin's attack and landing smoothly. His hand touched the ground mid-spin, and he used the momentum to perform a flare before rising to his feet.
"Alright, my turn!" Cyborg charged forward, swinging his massive metal fist.
Fate exhaled.
Magic circuits ignited.
The air vibrated as he pulled in mana, channeling it into his body. His left fist clenched, reinforced beyond human limits.
Their fists met—metal against flesh.
BOOM!
A shockwave erupted from the impact, sending Cyborg flying backward.
"WHAT!?" he shouted in disbelief.
Robin didn't let up. The moment Fate turned, he was already attacking.
Fate projected Scarlet into his left hand, clashing against Robin's bo staff. Sparks flew as metal met metal. Their eyes locked—both warriors grinning.
"Impressive," Robin admitted, stepping back and twisting his body for another swing.
Fate materialized Redgrave in his right hand. Their weapons collided again, a blur of strikes and counters.
"Let's dance." Fate grinned.
The two engaged in a fast-paced exchange of skill, neither holding back. But Robin quickly noticed something—
'He's adjusting his strength—always just slightly stronger than us…'
Robin gritted his teeth. Tsk. 'He's matching each of us perfectly.'
A thunderous roar echoed through the training room.
Fate turned just in time to see Beast Boy—now a towering T-Rex—charging straight at him.
"Hah, alright. Time for something different."
Fate crossed his blades, preparing to throw them, but then hesitated. Instead, he dismissed them and reached into his arsenal.
He pulled out a large wooden katana.
Fate exhaled.
From within, he drew upon knowledge he inherited from a demigod, breaking it apart, analyzing it, before letting his instincts take over.
A smirk crossed his face as he allowed his childish side to emerge—just for a bit.
"Let's play."
Rot Breathing: Second Form – Petal Drift!
His footwork became erratic, unpredictable.
As Beast Boy lunged, Fate moved like a leaf caught in the wind—side-stepping, weaving, countering—each strike delicate as a falling petal yet hitting hard enough to send pain rippling through the T-Rex's body.
Fate wasn't aiming to kill—just to send Beast Boy straight to bed, sore as hell.
The continuous, rapid blows caused the massive dinosaur to stumble, almost losing his footing.
But Fate didn't let up.
Rot Breathing: Third Form – Scarlet Gale!
A storm of slashes erupted from his wooden blade—fast, precise, relentless—like a violent gust scattering rotten flower petals in the wind.
"WAIT! I give up! I give up!" Beast Boy yelped, hastily transforming back into human form, throwing his hands up in surrender.
"I think we should call it a day," Robin finally said, noting the exhaustion in the team.
Continuing this any longer would just mean letting Fate beat everyone down using a wooden sword.
"Yeah. I agree," Fate said, feeling the burn in his body. His magic circuits were overheating from excessive use. Resting now was the smart move.
With that, the training session came to an end.
"Fate, can we talk for a bit?" Raven approached him, her voice calm but laced with something deeper.
Fate, with nothing better to do, shrugged. "Sure."
He followed her as she led them to a more secluded spot, clearly wanting privacy.
"So, what's on your mind?" he asked, leaning against a nearby wall. Then, with a teasing smirk, he added, "Or is this about the fact that you spy on me while I'm in the shower?"
Raven's face turned an immediate shade of crimson. "W-What?! No! That's not it!" she stammered, quickly shaking her head as if to clear her thoughts.
Fate chuckled at her reaction but let her continue.
"I wanted to talk about something else," she said, taking a steady breath before looking at him seriously.
"I can sense emotions—yours, to be exact. And... they're too extreme. More than any normal person should be able to handle while staying this calm." Her gaze hardened. "Are you okay?"
There was no avoiding it now. She had seen through him.
Raven, someone whose magic was directly tied to emotions—an empath—could tell when someone was hiding behind a facade. She buried her emotions to keep her power from spiraling out of control. Fate, on the other hand, buried his while wearing a mask of cheerful indifference.
For the first time, Raven saw that mask crack. His usual smirk faded, replaced by something unreadable.
"I'm doing just fine as I am." His voice was even, almost detached. His gaze drifted downward to his left hand.
Raven caught the subtle shift in his expression—disapproval, resentment, something deeper than mere self-doubt.
With a quiet sigh, he continued, "Fine. If that didn't convince you..."
His eyes met hers.
"I'm not fully human, Raven." His voice was softer now, laced with something weightier. "I carry the blood of a traitor—someone who turned on their own kind. And now, here I am... following the same path."
He exhaled slowly, as if saying it out loud solidified something he had been avoiding.
"I'm fighting against my own kind. Fighting for humanity."
A silence stretched between them, heavy with meaning.
Then, with a nonchalant shrug, he added, "So don't think too much about it, okay? I'll figure out sooner or later if what I'm doing is right or wrong."
Without waiting for a response, Fate turned and walked away, his usual carefree air returning.
Raven stood frozen, watching him disappear around the corner.
Only once he was truly out of sight did she finally teleport back to her room.
Another day passed.
Fate stepped into the living room, rubbing the back of his neck as he made his way toward the couch. His eyes caught something odd on the table—a small box sitting there as if waiting for him.
Curious, he sat down and picked it up, opening the lid to reveal a deck of cards.
"Huh?" He pulled them out and flipped through them—every single one was completely blank.
Before he could make sense of it, the cards suddenly glowed bright white, the light flashing in his eyes.
"The hell—?"
A moment later, as the blinding light faded, Fate found himself in an empty white room—surrounded by the other Titans.
"What is going on?" Cyborg asked, looking around in confusion.
Before anyone could answer, a TV screen flickered to life in the room.
On the screen appeared a large, overweight man with orange hair.
"Greetings, Titans!" the guy announced in a loud, overly excited voice.
Fate squinted at the screen, unimpressed. "Hey… who's this nerd?"
"I am no nerd! I am Control Freak!" the man declared, throwing his hands up in a dramatic pose, gazing upward as if contemplating his life choices.
Fate blinked. "Yeah. Definitely a nerd."
"I AM NOT A NERD!" Control Freak shouted, clearly in denial.
Fate leaned back, crossing his arms. "Right. And I'm not a devil. You sure you got nothing better to do, or do you just annoy people for attention?"
Control Freak ignored the jab, clearing his throat. "Ahem! Anyway… as you can see, Titans, you're all here because you must have found the deck I left for you."
Fate glanced around and noticed the others were all holding similar decks in their hands.
"You're all trapped here unless you can defeat me in a little game called… Duel Monsters!"
With a flourish, he held up his own deck.
Fate's eye twitched, expression darkened his latest skill [Storm Access].
Storm Access - When the user energy reaches 10% or lower, the user randomly obtains a Monster card from the world they are in. The more intense the situation is, the stronger the obtained Monster will be.
No matter how Fate look at it, this was directly from a skill from Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS!
"And to make it even more fun, you all get your own customizable D-Wheel! Yes, we'll be playing while riding motorcycles!" Control Freak continued, grinning like he just discovered cheat codes.
Fate blinked. "So… let me get this straight. You want us to play a children's card game… while riding motorcycles?"
"Yes!"
Beast Boy immediately grabbed a deck. "I'm in!" He hopped onto one of the D-Wheels, which transformed into a sleek green motorcycle resembling Robin's—just with a different color scheme.
Cyborg shrugged. "Well, we don't have much of a choice." His D-Wheel turned into a cybernetic ride matching his aesthetic.
Raven sighed. "Let's get this over with." Her bike materialized as a dark, gothic machine, complete with a skull decoration.
"Oh, this shall be a most glorious experience, friends!" Starfire cheered, her ride appearing as a pink and bubbly monstrosity of enthusiasm.
Robin mounted his own, which, unsurprisingly, looked almost identical to his usual motorcycle, except for the duel disk attachment.
He turned to Fate. "You're not coming?"
"You guys go ahead. I'll build my own deck," Fate said, already flipping through the cards.
"Alright. Titans, GO!" Robin ordered as they sped off.
Fate took his time assembling his deck, a smirk playing on his lips as he recreated an old favorite. His D-Wheel, dubbed Fate Riser, was red with black wheels, featuring side-mounted handles instead of a front grip. It looked like a fusion between the Yusei Go and Blackbird from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's.
Finally satisfied, Fate hopped on and took off, quickly catching up—only to be met with utter carnage.
Beast Boy's ride had crashed into a wall.
Starfire's pink disaster was stuck in the mud.
Cyborg's ride lay motionless on the side of the track.
Raven's? Split clean in half.
Fate raised an eyebrow. "What is this, crashing simulator?"
Up ahead, Robin was barely holding on, his Life Points at 400, facing Control Freak, who had 3500 LP and five monsters on the field.
Fate rolled up beside him. "So… how's it going?"
Robin's glare said everything. "Not great."
The Titans had jumped in too fast without understanding the game mechanics.
Beast Boy was too excited about his bike, sped off at full throttle, and forgot to play any cards. Eliminated immediately.
Starfire got distracted by the "adorable" monsters in her deck and didn't watch the road. Crash.
Raven actually figured out the game but got overwhelmed by Control Freak's setup.
Cyborg? Bricked. Didn't even get to play.
Now, only Robin and Fate remained.
Control Freak grinned. "Now then, my Cyber-Tech Alligator! Destroy his monster!"
A half-mechanical alligator lunged forward, tearing apart Robin's defense.
"Good! Now, Jinzo, finish him off!"
Jinzo—a creepy cybernetic humanoid—fired an electric blast, throwing Robin off balance. His Life Points dropped to zero, his body turning into a card as his bike crashed.
Fate came to a stop, smirking. "Guess that just leaves me and you, nerd."
"For the last time, I am NOT A NERD!" Control Freak yelled, fuming.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. This party's getting crazy." Fate slid his hand onto his deck. "Let's rock."
Control Freak - 3500 LP
Fate Redgrave - 4000 LP
"My move."
PLAYER PENALTY: 2000 LP
Fate Redgrave - 4000 → 2000 LP
Fate smirked. "Draw."
The moment he said it, something inside clicked—a forgotten passion rekindling.
"I summon a monster."
He placed a card down, and a small, flower-like creature appeared.
Control Freak grinned. "Not so fast! I activate Banishing Trap Hole!" A purple trap card flipped up. "When you summon a monster with 1500 ATK or less, I can banish it!"
Fate wasn't surprised.
"But that's not all!" Control Freak cackled. "Because of Jinzo, equipped with Amplifier, my trap effects don't apply to me—only to YOU! Plus, with Imperial Order, you can't use Spell Cards either!"
He burst into laughter, practically vibrating with smugness.
Fate simply shrugged. "I end my turn."
Control Freak snorted. "Ha! You're finished!" He drew a card, barely glancing at it. "Jinzo! Attack him directly!"
As the electric blast surged toward Fate, black, phantom-like wings erupted behind him, blocking the attack.
Control Freak's eyes widened. "What!?"
A dark, demonic presence materialized in front of Fate—a spiritual being with sickly pink skin, large black wings, and mismatched eyes. Her outfit was bizarre—half covered, half exposed—her long, two-toned hair flowing as she glared at the enemy.
Fate smirked. "I activate my monster's effect—Spirit of Yubel!"
Spirit of Yubel - 0 DEF
"When you declare an attack, I can Special Summon her in Defense Mode!"
The ghostly figure shielded Fate from the blast. She then turned, glancing back at him with an amused expression before refocusing on Control Freak's field.
Control Freak looked like he just failed a test he was sure he aced. "Wh—WHAT!?"
"Spirit of Yubel can't be destroyed by battle and when she is summoned I can add one spell or trap with "Yubel" in it to my hand or set it to my field." Fate said adding the new card to my hand before a turn to avoid going off the road.
"Tsk! Then I end my turn!" Control Freak said.
"My turn!" Fate said placing his hand on his deck looking back up he didn't see his monster anywhere.
Spirit of Yubel was… gone.
Looking from both sides he didn't see her either.
Fate only noticed the angry look the nerd was giving him, which confused him.
A pair of phantom hands wrapped around his waist, sitting on Fate Riser behind him
A familiar voice whispered seductively into his ear.
"Long time no see, Master~"
'Huh, so it's either the monster has a mind of its own or she is actually the duel monster spirit.' Fate thought before grinned. "Yeah… it's good to see you again, Yubel."
His heartbeat quickened—the presence familiar, like a long-lost bond suddenly reforged.
"Draw. I end my turn." Fate drew my card and didn't even bother to look at it before ending his turn, knowing there was nothing he could do.
Meanwhile, Control Freak was seething.
Seeing Fate and Yubel being so close to each other, he was sure the Titan never played this game before since it was taken from another world.
And those cards do have a spirit living within them.
He tries getting off with some of the more sexy spirits but they all reject his feelings, then he tries female-looking spirits but the result is still the same.
He couldn't even find a spirit that actually wanted him.
And now the smug bastard that has been mocking him almost nonstop just got a monster spirit to come and sit behind him with her arms wrapped around him without even lifting a finger.
"Y-You..." He uttered trying to hold his anger but seeing the spirit being intimate with Fate. "I DRAW! I PAY 700 LP TO KEEP MY TRAP!"
Control Freak - 2800 LP
He then looks down at his hand trying to think of a way to destroy Fate's monster but he ends up with the short end of the stick having nothing in his hand that could even harm the spiritual monster.
"I... end my turn." He said through gritted teeth seeing Yubel actually listening and enjoying being by Fate's side hurt his pride as a man.
"Draw." Fate drew before looking at his hand and setting one card face down. "I end my turn."
Control Freak almost coughs up blood.
'You bastard! You mock me from start to end but when a girl decides to sit on your bike, you forget me!? What happens to bro before hoe!?' He shouted in his heart before begrudgingly reaching for his deck.
"My turn. Draw!"
Control Freak - 2100 LP
And he can't do anything which only forces him to look at Fate and Yubel with an annoyed and jealous glare.
"I end my turn."
"Draw, set one, then end." Fate said not even bothering to look or taunt Control Freak instead focusing his attention on the road ahead and the woman behind him.
Back in his old life, he used to go to many game tournaments to win prizes. And Yu-Gi-Oh his favorite deck to play is a Yubel Deck.
Now in this new life, it seems that the bond and experience he made with cards all came with him. So now his favorite monster Yubel remembers all the time they had been together and how he kept her card safe through the year.
Fate's action pissed Control Freak even more. "Draw." He smiled looking at the card he just drew.
"I won't pay my Life Point this time, leading to the destruction of my trap! Then I'll use my spell Raigeki!"
A thunderbolt struck down, destroying Spirit of Yubel—but Fate remained unfazed.
"When Spirit of Yubel is destroyed, I can Special Summon…"
A more physical version of her appeared.
Yubel - 0 ATK
Yubel let out an annoyed sigh glaring at Control Freak. "Give me a moment, Master."
Control Freak smiled seeing Yubel glaring at him, and she was in attack mode.
"Now then, Jinzo! Attack her!" He ordered Jinzo to attack Yubel.
Jinzo's blast fired—only for thorned vines to emerge. The large thorn vine came up from the ground blocking the attack.
"What!?"
"Nightmare Pain!' Both Fate and Yubel said activating her effect and the vine struck Control Freak.
Control Freak - 2100 → 0 LP
"AHHHHHH!" Control Freak crashed into a tree as the duel ended.
'Huh. So he never sees Yubel's main effect.'
Fate barely reacted. "Huh. That was anticlimactic." He said seeing as the large screen showed his face with the word WINNER.
The world shifted back to reality, the duel over.
His deck and Fate Riser vanished, but another copy had already appeared from within his Reality Marble, while the other Titans groaned on the ground, recovering from their crashes.
'I guess this is what Max Luck does in Yu-Gi-Oh.'
Yubel, now floating beside him in spirit form, smiled. "So, this is where you live?"
"Yeah. Just crashing here until I can travel again."
Yubel smirked. "Heh. Then I suppose I'll be staying with you, Master~."
Fate chuckled. "Wouldn't have it any other way."
Somewhere within Fate's inner world…
"Nobu!" Nobbu yelled in frustration, running endlessly in a massive hamster wheel, trapped inside a cage like a test subject.
"I know you're upset, Nobbu. I am too," Scathach said, sitting with her legs crossed, her expression bored yet tinged with irritation. She was locked in a similar cell, fingers idly tapping against the bars. "But there's nothing we can do for now."
"Yeah, we were all caught off guard by her," Senji muttered, leaning against the cold wall of his cell, arms crossed in quiet frustration.
Igneel, crammed into a cage far too small for his size, let out a huff of smoke. "I wonder how long it'll take him to notice something's wrong with his system." He shifted, barely able to move.
"Hard to say," Scathach replied, her expression darkening. "We wanted to teach him a lesson, but we didn't expect his mind to deteriorate instead." Her crimson eyes sharpened as she turned her gaze forward.
"Oi! Stop messing with my son's memory!" she snarled, her voice filled with rage.
A cold, detached voice responded. "Say whatever you want," Morgan said, not even sparing her a glance. The red glow of an ominous screen illuminated her figure as she worked, lines of cryptic code flashing behind her.
"His memory is merely a temporary obstacle. A speed bump." Morgan's lips curled into a smirk.
"The moment I crack this system," she said, her fingers flying across the interface, "Fate will belong to me. He'll be my most loyal servant—my most perfect follower."
Her eyes gleaming with unsettling determination.
"And once that happens… he'll obey my every command."
