Chapter 60: FTRJ: Chapter 60
"Finn…" Mirajane nodded.
Finn turned to the guild members. "More ghost soldiers are coming. You can handle this, right?"
Cana spread her tarot cards, shouting, "Leave it to us, Finn!"
"Don't worry! We'll defend to the death!!" The guild members roared their defiance.
Finn looked at Erza.
"Let's go!"
Mirajane remained where she stood, her white hair whipping in the wind as she watched the two figures race away. Silently, she clasped her hands together into fists, holding them before her chest.
Her head bowed, she murmured something under her breath.
It was like a prayer.
…
Inside the magic giant, Elfman ran alone down a corridor. He had already rejoined Finn and Erza.
They had formulated a preliminary battle plan: Finn would go to the top floor to confront Jose.
The others would split up to find the power source of Purgatory Shatter.
"Manly Elfman will protect Fairy Tail, even if it costs his life," Elfman muttered to himself, bolstering his courage.
Suddenly, an eye opened in the ground where Elfman had just stepped. Then, a middle-aged man burst forth from the earth.
Elfman stopped, turning to face the man who was contorting his body in a strange manner.
"One of the Four Elements," Elfman said, discarding his jacket to reveal his incredibly muscular upper body.
"My name is Sol. Please be polite and call me Mr. Sol," Sol replied, continuing his strange contortions.
"Good. I'll make you tell me how to stop this giant," Elfman said in a low voice.
Meanwhile, on the other side…
Finn made his way up from the lower floors to the top floor of the guildhall. Numerous rooms lined the corridor, each door firmly shut.
Finn arrived at the largest door and kicked it open with a single blow.
Sure enough, there sat Jose, the man in the Ten Wizard Saints' robes, in the center of the room.
"Jose, it's time to settle the score. You won't be cowardly enough to only face me with a thought projection this time, will you?" Finn said, drawing his sword.
"Beast Arm: Scale Bull."
A magic circle flashed, and Elfman's right arm transformed into a beast arm.
Sol scoffed. "You're going to fight with only your right arm? So the rumors are true, then."
"Enough with the chatter," Elfman didn't want to listen to this man's nonsense. He charged at Sol, slamming his beast arm hard into the ground.
Sol performed a backflip to evade the attack, all the while muttering, "You had a sister, didn't you?"
Elfman froze at these words, the image of Lisanna flooding his mind.
"Opportunity," Sol seized the opening, unleashing "Roche Concerto."
In an instant, countless shards of rock shot out from the ground, each piece striking Elfman like a bullet.
"NO, NO, NO." In a flash, Sol had melted into the ground, emerging from behind Elfman. His body, as flexible as a serpent, wrapped around Elfman's arm.
Elfman strained to tear Sol's body away, trying to free his arm.
"NO, NO, NO. Saying 'NO' three times shows you it's useless. You failed your Beast Soul transformation once, losing control and killing your sister, right?"
"Uh…" Elfman froze, stunned.
Sol slid off Elfman's arm, delivering a powerful kick to his body.
"Damn it!" Elfman angrily raised his fist, but instantly stopped. "Lisanna…"
Sol looked at the rock statue of Lisanna he had created in front of him. "Such a cute little sister, isn't she? I wonder where she is now?"
Elfman's eyes widened in shock.
Sol continued his strange contortions. "Oh, I forgot. She's probably lying in the dirt now, isn't she? How sad."
Elfman's beast arm reverted to its normal form. He lowered his head, a slight smile playing on his lips. "So that's it, huh? Trying to unsettle me?"
"Too bad. I'm not the same Elfman I used to be. Full-Body Take Over: Beast Soul—Beast King!!"
Sol's eyes widened in disbelief. "Impossible! You clearly can't use Beast Soul! Why? Aren't you afraid of going berserk?"
"Berserk? You're right, I used to go berserk. But thanks to Finn's incredible strength, he always managed to suppress my berserker transformations. Over time, I've learned to control this power."
Countless pixel-like blocks overlaid Elfman's body, and his size increased dramatically within the radiant light. A surge of raw magical power erupted from Elfman, and a colossal beast appeared before Sol.
Its crimson eyes locked onto Sol.
Roar———— The giant beast let out a deafening roar.
"Ah…ah…" Sol, no longer displaying his earlier composure, stammered, "This…this is…the Beast King form of Beast Soul?!"
Woooh———— Elfman unleashed a furious roar.
He swung his gigantic fists, repeatedly pounding Sol.
"NO~~NO~~NO!" The bruised and battered Sol screamed with each blow, until he finally lost consciousness.
Elfman released his transformation. "I've already lost my sister. I can't lose any more family. I have to find a way to stop this giant!"
With that, he turned and left, heading towards the central area of the guildhall.
…
Meanwhile, Gray found himself facing Juvia, one of the Four Elements, and their battle instantly commenced.
Outside, Cana's sharp senses picked up something.
"Hey, everyone, look! The giant's hand writing the magic seems to be slowing down," Cana pointed towards the giant's slowly moving fingers.
"Yeah, but why?" everyone pondered.
"Purgatory Shatter is elemental magic, composed of wind, fire, water, and earth. Phantom Lord's Four Elements correspond perfectly to these elements," Mirajane said, stroking her chin thoughtfully.
"In other words, the power source for Purgatory Shatter is most likely Phantom Lord's Four Elements. If we defeat the Four Elements, we might be able to stop this behemoth," Mirajane concluded, seemingly having found the answer.
"So, that means at least one of the Four Elements has been defeated, right?" Cana began to deduce.
She then looked towards Phantom Lord's guildhall. "Erza, Gray, Natsu, Elfman, and Finn—it's all up to you now."
Inside Phantom Lord's central hall, Natsu gasped for breath, his body covered in wounds.
"I didn't expect you to be so tough, little Fire Dragon," a man in a green coat, his eyes completely covered by bandages, said.
"I'm burning with rage, you bastard!" Natsu, despite his injuries, still managed a slight smile on his lips. He was not afraid of the man before him.
"Natsu~" Happy looked at Natsu with concern. He had witnessed firsthand that Natsu was completely outmatched by Aria.
Aria extended a hand like a giant fan. "Airspace: Metsu!"
A magic circle flashed, and countless spheres of wind magic instantly appeared around Natsu, relentlessly bombarding his body.
"Ah~~" Natsu screamed in agony.
Tears welled up in Happy's eyes. "Too strong! Is this the strongest of the Four Elements?"
Natsu fell to the ground, struggling to his feet. "Damn it…"
"Don't you understand the concept of 'there are always greater powers'? You're still a naive little dragon," Aria's voice echoed.
"Then how about this?" Natsu brought his fists together, gathering magic power in his mouth.
"Fire Dragon's Roar~~" A torrent of flames erupted from Natsu's mouth, aimed directly at Aria.
Aria's body became momentarily transparent, and the flames passed right through him.
Natsu froze, halting his magic power output. "Where'd he go?" Natsu looked around frantically, trying to locate Aria's position.
Aria's voice resonated throughout the hall. "It's over, Fire Dragon. I'll let you taste the same pain as Makarov."
Aria appeared out of thin air behind Natsu. Natsu sensed his presence, but it was too late.
Aria clasped her hands together. "Airspace: Zetsu!"
Two purple magic circles unfolded, and a golden light began to emanate from beneath Natsu's feet, followed by…
"Oaaaaah~~~" The agonizing pain of his magic power dissipating caused Natsu to let out an involuntary scream.
Tears streamed down Aria's face. "No matter how strong a mage is, within my Airspace, all magic power will be reduced to zero. How sad!!"
"Aaaaaah~~ My power is fading…damn it…"
But at that very moment, a crimson figure suddenly appeared on the battlefield, kicking Aria away with a single blow.
"Erza!! That's great!" Happy cried out excitedly.
"Erza, thanks a bunch," Natsu, the pain now gone, had recovered his composure and expressed his gratitude.
Erza didn't respond to Natsu, but instead fixed her gaze intently on Aria, who had just reappeared. "This is the one who…"
"Erza Scarlet…how tragic. Not only the Fire Dragon, but even the Fairy Queen will fall here," Aria said, seemingly even more sorrowful than before.
"You're the one who injured our guild master," Erza declared, her gaze sharp as a sword.
…
On the other side, Gray's battle with Juvia had also concluded, but Gray didn't take her life. Instead, just as Juvia was about to fall into the ocean, he grabbed her, pulling her to safety. Perhaps it was because his heart had found peace, but Juvia, who had caused rain wherever she went since childhood, witnessed a clear sunny sky for the first time in her life.
She marveled at the beauty of the clear sky, and she also felt as if she had finally broken free from her predetermined fate, embarking on a new path.
Outside, with Juvia's defeat, the magic giant's hand, which had been writing the incantation for Purgatory Shatter, had slowed to a near standstill.
And from the top of Phantom Lord's guildhall, a tremendous explosion echoed, suggesting that a fierce battle was still underway. Everyone understood that Finn was up there, locked in combat with Jose.
