Fairy Tail: Strongest Creature

Chapter 288: Dragon Hunting

Rogue's face contorted in fury as he watched Su Yan's azure dragon form ascend the storm-blackened sky.

"No, this cannot be! A mere human—no, a human-dragon—slain two of my mightiest wyrms?!" he spat. "Atlas Flame! Zirconis! Motherglare! Scissor Runner! Surround that blue dragon and kill him—every last one of you!"

Below, the dragons obeyed at once. Atlas Flame tore away from his duel with Natsu; Zirconis abandoned the palace guards; the King Kong Dragon Motherglare and the rock-scaled Scissor Runner roared as they circled to encircle Su Yan.

High atop a crumbling rooftop, Laxus growled as the rock dragon wheeled Scissor Runner toward him. "You think I'll let you pass?" With a thunderous exhale, he unleashed Roar of the Thunder Dragon, a pillar of golden lightning that shattered the ground—but the wyrm merely shrugged off the strike and lunged at Su Yan.

Laxus ground his teeth. "I'll hold him off—General, it's up to you now!" He dove back into battle against the smaller drakes at the plaza's edge.

Erza, Mira, and Wendy formed a tight triangle beneath Zirconis's glare. The Emerald Dragon lunged, sweeping them aside with a crushing gust of wing-beat and a blast of draconic wind.

Just as Zirconis prepared to devour them, a burst of blinding light flashed overhead. Crash! A second great wyrm plummeted from the heavens and struck Zirconis so forcefully the dragon's roar cut off mid-laugh.

"Mmph—what sort of dragon is that?!" Zirconis roared, staggering to his feet.

Mira's lips curled in a confident smile. "You saw two giants felled by Su Yan's hand already. You should be worried—for you're next."

Zirconis snarled but was forced to retreat when Rogue's command rang out again:

"You treacherous girl! I'll devour you all when I return—now, hunt Su Yan!"

With one final sweep of his wings, Zirconis departed, leaving the trio to catch their breath.

At the plaza's center, Atlas Flame and Natsu resumed their duel. Atlas Flame's claws carved jagged troughs in the stone, yet Natsu's Dragon Slayer resilience held firm.

"Your flames mean nothing!" Atlas Flame thundered, enveloping Natsu in a conflagration.

Natsu hopped free and, with a grin, launched himself upward. "You know what time it is!"

Before the dragon could react, Natsu settled atop Atlas Flame's horned brow and began to feast on its very breath. Flames roared and banked around them as Natsu devoured stream after stream of dragon-fire, growing stronger with every mouthful.

Atlas Flame bucked and reared, desperately trying to dislodge the Fire Dragon Slayer, but Natsu clung on, laughter echoing over the clash of claws and stone.

Above it all, Su Yan's mighty roar answered Motherglare's siege. From the storm-wracked sky, the azure dragon's call rattled every rooftop—an unbroken challenge to every beast that dared hunt him.

And below, humanity's greatest champions watched, hope rekindled in their hearts: their strongest mage had become the very thing they fought against—and now led the charge to save their world.
